How expensive is water?

Blossy, 24 June, 2008 at 16:19 Posted on Off Topic Posts 0 5

I realise that there is a similar thread at the minute about the price of utilities but I was just wandering if anyone here was on water meters? We have just moved from a house without one to one with one and have no idea what to expect in terms of bills. It's quite a big house and there's 4 adults and a child so I expect it will be quite high.

My mum (whom I have bought the house with) is being like a water NAZI inspecting taps making sure they are not dripping, making sure they aren't left running when brushing teeth, pouring needed cups of water into the kettle, barging into the bathroom when im havin a bath telling me a shower would probably be cheaper :'( it's driving me CRAZY. I know these are all good ideas but i am a much more laid back type of person. It's not just the water she is anal about but that is another ranty post all together :-D

So yes, anyway.. water meters everyone....

Well unless they put their prices up you usually make a saving with a meter. We switched to a meter because we wanted to save money. the guy fitting it said that meters are usually cheaper. Having said that though, I would still be careful what I used until I got the first bill.

Our bill is about £15 a month (2 people). Meter will generally be cheaper if you have less people than bedrooms.

I'm a bit of a Nazi about water as well. Saves you money and its not a finite resource.

Gingey.. I'm not averse to being careful with water, or indeed any other utility, I just wanted a bit of reassurance we weren't facing financial ruin for my ma heh

hmm that posted before i had finished grr, i was going to go on and say thanks for the guide though. We have 5 people in 5 bedrooms, but have 2 bathrooms and utilty room, so i think if we were paying rates we'd be paying a lot anyway. I was suprised people say meters are cheaper, i thought they would be a rip off for some reason.

2 of us, 3 cats, 4 bed house, 3 toilets, we shower rather than bath, dishwasher on twice a week, 3 loads of washing max a week, garden gets watered twice a week. We've been on a meter for 6 years and we pay £15.50 a month.
