How far away is your venue from your house?

Mrs*W*2B, 24 February, 2012 at 12:25 Posted on Planning 0 37

As the title says...we still haven't picked a venue (too fussy!!) starting to look further away but not sure how this works for visiting if we need to and getting there etc on the day...only thinking 1-1 1/2 hrs away but still seems far! x

Mine is about 6 hours door to door but it's in another country :-D if I were doing it in the same country I would probably consider no more than what you are suggesting.

Ours is about 1.5 hours drive. We can't get into our venue until morning of the wedding so going up the night before to relax so drive isnt too much of a problem (although we are doing all our own centrepieces etc so may need a removals van!!!)

Ours is about an hour. I will admit it has been a bit annoying if we've needed to go down there. We only have 1 car and if my OH is meeting me from work, I've had to take the train down. But beyond that, it hasn't been too much of a problem. My parents have rented accommodation near there for the week of the wedding so I'll stay with them the night before and be a 2 minute drive from the venue the morning of.

My venue is 15.4 miles by the directest route, or about 35 minutes to drive (Google estimates 40 min, but they're always wrong).

OH really wanted something fairly close by, but I didn't really care as there's only a handful of guests who live near us anyway, so everyone will be staying overnight anyways, and travelling pretty far. We have guests 'nearby' as in they live in London, but as our venue is 15 miles SOUTH of us, and we're already in zone 6 SE London/Bromley, it ends up being travel distance for them as well.

Oh well, it's a dreamy venue and I wouldn't want anywhere else. (also I'm getting ready there, so I don't have to worry about travelling the day of)

Ooo i wish we could find somewhere within a 10 min drive!! I just feel like we have looked at all the possible venues in our area and we have only liked ONE!! and this venue is now getting awful write ups, trip advisors and getting warned off it by people we know!! feel like were back at square one Smiley sad

if anybody would like to open a wedding venue in the Manchester/Cheshire area with a great location, excellent food, lovely building etc all for a reasonable price then i will be the first to sign up!!! x

    About 11,000 miles ?

Don't worry about the distance, as you can do most things by phone and email. We've seen our venue twice, both visits in the same week. We won't see it again until the week of the wedding. We have photos and luckily they sent us a 360 degree tour thingy that some photographer had taken, so I can refer to this when I need to think about venue decoration etc.

As for getting there on the day, can't you stay over the night before and get ready there or in a nearby hotel?

Church is about 5 minute drive if that and the reception is about 20 minutes away. Sounds nice and local but its up a unmade farm road so not overly accessible!!

Only 15 minutes from ours and my mums house. It is reassuring to know if we forget anything we can just nip home!

Mine is about 45 mins down the dual carriageway but a lot of my guests are coming from 200 miles away so an extra 45 mins won't make any difference to them. Im staying at the venue the night before and my oh is getting a nice car to get there. I think the drive in an Audi R8 will help his nerves to be honest lol.

I can see our church from my kitchen window. Its about 500 yards away.

The reception venue is 15-20 minute drive depending if you miss the turning and have to turn around like we have done the last 2 times we've been there!!

RO is about 20 mins by car, and then the chosen few who are attending the ceremnoy will head back to our for a cheeky drink, then on the vilage hall 2 minutes drive away (just under a mile!) for the reception.

I would have considered up to an hour for us, but only in the direction that our friends live (i.e most guests travelling less than an hour). It's a big family affair wiht loads of children so not really fair to drag them on a long journey - if they had all been adults, however, I probably wouldn't have reall considered distance at all !

Venue is about 4 hours away from our house and about an hour from all our family.... we'll probably be going to OH parent's house the week before the wedding in case we need to pop in for things and then staying at the hotel the night before.

We're hoping to be able to do most things via email/phone but we'll have a few trips when going home to see people where we'll be able to speak to people directly/meet people. We'll also be hoping our parents will be able to do some running around for us if needed so hopefully the distance won't be too much of a problem

20 minutes by plane (plus another hour to get to/from the airport) or about 2.5-3 hours by ferry (which is how OHs family will be travelling)

Ours in 11.1 miles, around 20-30 mins depending on which route you take and what traffic is like at the time.

Our family and many of our friends however live 140miles from our venue so for them it'll be a 2.5 hr drive at the very least

Ours was about 40mins. We have family all over the place and had guests from San Deigo and Austrailia (and Essex!).

My biggest dissapointment was my local pub crowd didn't turn up. Organising a small minibus for 15 was apparently too much... I did have a serious moan!

There are some nice venues very close to us (Ponsborne Park, Theobalds Grove etc), but out of our budget. Many guests stayed in the Hotel, and it was very nice meeting up with them in the morning for Breakfast. Being able to have a chat with my favourite Aunt & Uncle and also Carmens Gran was really nice, as the Wedding Day just flew by.
