How far in advance have you got bridesmaid dresses?

emma_louise, 12 June, 2008 at 18:59 Posted on Planning 0 14

I've found the style I like, was just wondering how in advance did you order yours? My wedding isnt until August 1st 2009 so sure I dont need to get them yet, was just wondering when a good time to get them would be?

I am probably not the best person to go by as I already have mine on hold at bhs for sept 2009! This is only because MIL2B works there and can get them ridiculously cheap. Wont be getting the FGs dresses yet as they are all young will do a bit of growing in the next 15 months. Probably going to get theirs june/july next year.

I got mine in December and my wedding's this October...I wasn't planning on getting them so soon but they were exactly what I wanted and from Coast, so it's not like I could have ordered them later - it was hard enough to track down the right sizes as it was!

If they're from a dress shop then best to ask the shop when you should get them...based on their order times? I know the worry with having mine so far in advance is that my bms might change size and shape between when we got them and the wedding!

I'm getting married in March 09 - have to order my dresses before August this year as that style will no longer be produced after then - always worth checking to make sure you can get what you want. All shops/designers seem to have different lead times

I ordered mine about a month ago and they take about 3 months to come in (forever yours). I`m getting married in Nov but only got them in so early as CBM is moving to Dubai in August and need to get it fitted before then

I am getting married 1st August next year too and probably won't be ordering them until December or so moreso because of cost.

I ordered mine last week and I get married in September. I wouldn't recommend leaving it so late as it was quite stressful ?

If you've decided on what you want, then I'd suggest you get in touch with the stockist and find out what they'd suggest. If it's a style that's likely to discontinue soon, they might suggest you order now. They might even offer to notify you if they find out it's going to be discontinued (we offer this service). And they'd be able to tell you how much in advance they would normally suggest ordering too.

    Which dress is it btw?

Its from the Alfred Sung range

For some reason when I copy the link it shows a black sash, but am after it with a white one. Feel that this would really go with our theme and style.

That's a pretty dress - I like it. One of our brides has ordered it in espresso (the chocolate brown colour) with a pale pink sash. V nice.

OK, that's a relatively recent dress (ie unlikely to be discontinued immediately!) As I say, I 'd get in touch with your local stockist. Find out what they'd suggest. To be honest, if you're sure of what you want, and the bridesmaids aren't likely to be changing size much, then there's not much to lose by ordering sooner rather than later anyway.

    Thanks for your replies ladies.

Only issue I have with ordering them sooner rather then later is that the older bridesmaid is still loosing baby weight and the teenage one is meant to be on a diet. Is hard when they are young as their weight is constantly up and down. Think a girly day is needed and see how they feel about it all ?

I ordered February 23rd for an August 2nd wedding. If your only concern is them losing weight, dresses can be altered! I've lost 3.5 stones since ordering my dress. It's being altered as we speak.

4-6mths before your wedding is loads of time to get your bm sorted and also get your colour scheme sorted. I can't believe how many summer 09 brides are out looking for bm( some even before they have thier own dress) - they take up valuable time for brides who haven't bought thier dresses for this yr yet - but most are only looking and most have no intention of buying for another few mths!!!
