How far would you travel....?!?!

clairec1982, 22 May, 2008 at 22:42 Posted on Planning 0 9

Hi girls, just wondered if you could give me your opinions on this.......how far would you travel for the dress of your dreams......? The reason I'm asking is that I would really love to have a dress by a particular designer and am thinking of travelling quite a long way to get it!!!!! Do any of you feel the same.....that if you particularly wanted to try dresses by a certain designer or if you wanted to try a particular dress that you would travel some distance to achieve that like me?!?!? Just wondered if I am alone in my madness...?!?!?!?!

No you are not mad? I would travel as far as I needed. In fact for my brothers wedding I wanted a particular dress, so I went to Bristol for a fitting & the dress was then made in china & shipped over. By the way I live in Kent, so quite some distance lol, I would do anything for the dress of my dreams, luckily I found my wedding dress in a shop about 10 miles from home!

    Go for it!

Not very far, personally, but the shop I got my dress in seem to have people coming from all over.

I traveled about a 200 mile round trip for mine and while i loved my dress it did become a bit of a pain when you take in to consideration initial consultation, first fitting, final fitting and collection!

i work in a bridal shop, we have lots of brides travel from abroad, specifically to buy their dress from us. our furthest has been australia, quite a few from the carribean, lots from sweeden (to name a few) if you have seen a dress that you have fallen in love with. its worth going to a shop that stocks the dress. if you dont, you will always wonder what that dress would have looked like.

Taking into account these days how much fuel and trains etc are, not sure I would travel stupid miles tbh

I might to try on a dress that somewhere stocked as a sample.....but then only if I knew I could order it from somewhere locally should iit be the one....but otherwise all that backwards and forwards for fittings, collection etc would do my head in and the cost would get stupid.

I certainly wouldn't be arsed to go to another country

    Hi

i'm not sure i would tavel all that far, i stayed pretty local for my dress but had'nt really looked at designers etc so i went dress shopping with an open mind and was lucky to find one i loved! however i think if you have fallen in love with a specific dress it would be silly not to try it on as you might always have that niggling doubt and feeling that you had settled for second best!

So what i'm trying to say is if you don't mind traveling to get the dress of your dreams go for it but maybe you should try some local alternatives on too ... you never know you might find one you like better!

I travelled from Kent all the way to somewhere near Stoke when I got married the first time because I knew exactly what I was after and she was the only designer who said she could do it!

I wouldn't have a problem this time round with travelling for the dream dress, but thankfully I found it only a 15 minute walk from my house!!
