I was looking at wedding venues online and straight away i fell in love with a house in somerset for the reception. BUT i live in dagenham . . . . . . . is a 4 hour drive too far to ask 80 guests to drive for one day? (we would pay for the hotel for a night)

Hi, I'm also in Essex, was actually born in Dagenham. I'm a bit further out now, but parents still live in Hornchurch.

I personally think it is too far, considering you have no real connection to Somerset. We travelled from Essex to Cornwall last year for a wedding, as did 95% of the guests, but the B&G had set up home there so at least they had a connection to the area.

I agree that organising everything is Somerset will be difficult too.

The are lots of beautiful venues in Essex, or even Kent, Herts or Suffolk. I think you would be wise to consider some of those before even making the trip to Somerset to view this venue.

I'm on the 'it's too far' bench. You are pretty much forcing people into a 2 night stay and that's a lot of expense. My OH's parents live in Dorset, they moved down there a few years ago so there's no other family there. He suggested we get married down there but I vetoed that on the grounds we'd be forcing the entire guest list into a minimum 2 hour drive for no good reason. I have a lot of family who live in the Isle of Man so although they have to travel anyway, it's especially unfair on them to shove another 2-3 hours on top of their flight time.
There's so many lovely venues in Essex, I'm sure you'll find something else.
