How have you personalised your wedding? Flashes welcome!

Cat D, 7 September, 2015 at 01:24 Posted on Planning 0 14

Hi all,

It's getting closer and closer to my wedding now (less than 8 weeks) and I am now looking for those personal touches that make a wedding unique but that keep within your chosen theme. Any flashes would be most welcome!

As I consider what to do for my own wedding, I was wondering what you guys have chosen to do/did?!

Thanks in advance Smiley laugh

This is also currently the struggle I'm having! what theme are you going for? Mine is romantic so lots of blush pinks and whites with lots of greenery...

I understand the struggle with this! I've done a few things but keep wondering if it's enough...so far, we've got a couple of large frames and done photo collages of us and our families. Our favours are personalized and very "us", we're sure our guests will get why they were picked. Our guest book has our names indented, just enough to make it personal. All little things that hopefully add up.

I've done a few little things, like shells on the cake and a personalised cake topper, the favours are personalised, the cones the real petal confetti will be in are personalised. My bridesmaids will have flower headbands and there are more than just one shade of blue/turquoise running in the theme. It's all very relaxed with less than 60 guests, but has the usual formal touches. I think this alone is very us. I can't wait! Less than 4 weeks to go! :-)

What do you mean by personalised touches - things that reflect you/the groom, or personalised as in include your names or initials?

We didn't go for any of the second, but the choices we made all the way through reflected us as a couple. For example we are both big nerds, so our table names were comic book superheroes. We carried this through in other areas - our guest book was marvel/DC comic postcards, confetti cones were made out of comic books and the table plan used the postcards to match the table names.

Other things that were personalised to us were our cake flavour choices (no 'traditional' fruit cake, just flavours we loved), the cake toppers being cats (we have two and are huge 'cat people' so wanted something to reflect that!) and making sure that the bar served craft beers and cocktails.

Although my friends wedding isn't for a few months i've already bought her and her husband to be a pair of personalised champagne flutes, nice little touch for them to toast with i thought. There's loads of sites that offer them i bought mine from http://www.personalise.co.uk/personalised-champagne-flutes/ and went for the hand cut swarovski ones but they were quite pricey. You can always buy them as a surprise gift for your soon to be hubbie so when you do the toast you'll have your new joint surname on them.

I know Sarah (my friend getting married) has also bought things like lipbalms and then made stickers with their name and date of the wedding on it, they'll be placed on the table where all the girls will sit. Guys have got a engraved bottle open, think they got them from a local shop.

I did go to my brother's wedding last year and they had made little gift tags by hand for each placemat, looked really nice and was simply a case of going to somewhere like hobbycraft and getting the materials or buying them online.

    So far:

Music - the music when guests arrive will be JPop music by our favourite artists, I'm walking into a song from OH's favourite anime film, and music during the meal will be orchestral versions of videogame themes

Table names - our favourite animes and videogames

Centerpieces - ikebana-style, inspired by the animes & games which each table is named after (including mini-figurines)

Clothing - my evening dress & OH's suit are modern versions of traditional Chinese clothing

Entertainment - not confirmed yet, but hoping for a Chinese lion dance as a nod to OH's culture

Invitations - anime/cute cartoon style, with traditional Chinese elements

Cake - being provided by a local Chinese bakery. Will be a tower of different designs & flavours, hopefully with a Portal cake at the top (companion cube or the actual Portal cake - not decided yet).

@MadameRed - that sounds AMAZING! I hope there's gonna be some Perfume included in your JPop playlist Smiley winking

So ways in which we are personalising our wedding, which is going to be a Mad Hatters theme....it's not so much personalised with like our names on or anything but more to our own personal style

Colour scheme - there will be no colour scheme - it's going to be everything, all different colour/pattern bunting and diff style/ colour pom pom etc

Invites/Save the Dates - All have been created and printed by me (def did not use the office printer for that one ahem...but anyone who tells you that you can't print on pearlescent paper on a normal printer is wrong!). My invites will tell guests to dress in tea part attire to try and keep with the theme.

DJs - We are having two DJ sets - One set will 'normal' kind of music, later it will be Beats and Swing/Pys Trance. All the DJs are threatening to dress as Alice

Favours - We are having little drink me bottles filled with different corky's shots. I've made personalised tags for each bottle and these will be placed around the reception venue for people to pick up

Cake - The Cake will be a Mad Hatters topsy turvy cake designed by me with me and my OH as Alice and the mad hatter at the top in the style of momiji dolls

The 'First' - We are not having a first dance (too cringe for us) so we have come up with a First Domestic! When our guests think it's time for the dance something like the Rocky theme will come on and we are going to have a piñata battle instead Smiley smile

I'm not that fussed about making it 'our own' wedding - my mum keeps saying about keeping it a classy affair, with everything well within the colour scheme. I just don't care enough and keep thinking that gazillions of people have been married before us - nothing about ours can be entirely unique!

I guess the ways we're showing ourselves are in the music (both of us have questionable taste) and the cake. I guess the table numbers/names will probably be something to do with us if we can be bothered - otherwise they'll be 1, 2, 3 Smiley tongue

    We have personalised by:

    1) Choice of music including selecting the playlist for the disco to include our favourites and numbers we know our friends will like.

    2) Table names, with a bit of info of why we selected the table name (just one or two sentences, not a whole essay).

    3) Our venue had screens so we had a slideshow of photos of us throughout the years and old photos of us with our friends and families too, and we had a few comments about that which was nice.

Thanks. Only about 3 of our guests are into JPop, but stuff the rest of them - they're getting free food and drink! ? We're still working on narrowing songs down. So far, I've worked through SID, Scandal, Kalafina, Yuya Matsushita/X4, and AKB:48 (oh, the shame! Lol). Still got Perfume, One OK Rock, and Stereopony to work through. Then might need to go through the "not-so-shortlist" and narrow it down again lol.

    Hey all,

Thanks for your replies (and sorry for not responding sooner!) Smiley smile

For us, we have an ivory and burgundy colour scheme but it's more of a palette of colours as we are aware how difficult it would be to get exact matches (and we don't care that much lol).

We have personal touches such as having tables named after composers (I'm a musician) and a mate has done caricatures of the composers too. We also have a personalised cake topper with our married name on it. Our favours are personal to us and funny too.

The sorts of things I need help with are the slightly bigger things that make the day flow well and clear for guests in regards to what's happening and where. For example, order of ceremony cards, signs to show guests where each thing takes place, seating plan (I have the plan electronically but not how to display it physically) and other things to make it fun/keep people entertained for times when we may be having photos done etc. I don't want these things to cost a lot but I want it to look classy too...any ideas?

    xx

We actually did a fun wedding program - for a civil wedding we didn't need a ceremony order of service, but we wanted to add a personal touch and let guests know what to expect. I used this as a template and edited/changed it to suit us and add a timeline of the day.

    https://www.theknot.com/content/creative-wedding-program-templates

We used the modern double sided template.

We didn't have any signs really, we used a large frame to display our seating plan. We used postcards as table names so we used the same postcards and mounted them with names and decoration etc. to serve as the plan.

Our wedding has a slight disney theme, as we both love disney i think anyone invited to our wedding know us so well will know we will have encorparated it to our day.

Think fairly subtle not ott and tacky lol

im walking in to beauty and the beast (tale as old as time)

we have blue mickey head confetti type thing on the tables.

our tables name are love song titles from disney movies.

we also purchased a drop top guest book, but instead of it being hearts/circles we have mickey heads. I have a flash of this for you

(sorry if the images are so large i dont know how to resize)

We're not having anything personalised however everything we've chosen means something to us.

we wanted a really relaxed and informal affair so theres very little pomp and circumstance around our day. There's a loose 'tie the knot' theme however we don't feel the need to force this down people's throats. It will just be subtly there throughout the day.

my dress is 'wild berry' colour, my shoes are silver, we're having cupcakes topped with just 2 small tiers - the larger of which will accompany us to the pub a few days later to share with friends. theres no set menu, no best man, no bridesmaids and even our invitation wording is as far from formal as we could make it.
