Could you not call the dress shop and get the designer so you can have a look at the dress on line

I went to Pronuptia on the Monday and tried on 5 dresses...I liked 3 of them and felt like a princess in 1 but I was put off by the £1300+ price tag. Then on the Tuesday, I went to a private boutique that sells sample dresses and tried on 5...was so so with 3 of them and I liked 2 of them. Finally plumped for one of the two because I couldn't be bothered to shop anymore - I'm not really a girly girl. I am happy with my choice and fingers crossed the OH likes it on the day x

About ten minutes! Bought the first one I tried on, which was nothing like I wanted originally but it made me feel lovely and made my mum cry!

5 dress shops and about 30ish dresses, plus I went to the national wedding show in London and tried about 6/7 on there.

I was panicking that I couldn't find anything but eventually went about 40 miles away to a shop where I knew they had a particular dress that I wanted to try - was worth the journey as I bought it there and then.

Now I am sad that I don't get to spend my weekends dress shopping, I loved every minute of it!

Not long! I tried one in a wedding fayre last November. It was exactly the kind of dress that I thought I wanted, but when I tried it on, I just felt a bit "meh" - it was fine, but not "wow". I told myself it was because I wasn't in the right frame of mind for wedding dress shopping, I had horrible pants on and my hair was a mess. I told myself that when I went shopping for real, I'd wear good underwear and make sure my hair and makeup was nice.

As it happens, I stumbled upon a sample sale one day whilst I was in my "Sunday" clothes i.e. joggers and hoodie, again with no makeup and REALLY messy hair this time - worse than the previous time! I almost didn't bother trying anything as I couldn't find anything in the style I wanted, but the ladies pulled out a couple of options that I didn't mind the look of, so tried them on. I adored the first one and didn't even want to try on any more, but my mum told me I should. I tried the other two, which were fine, but nothing like the first one, so I bought it there and then.

I thought I had my dress all picked out before even seeing in the flesh. Went to one shop that sold the same designer, so I could get a feel for whether the shape would suit me - three dresses but wasn't going to buy then. Phoned around to find a shop that had The Dress I Really Wanted, went along, tried it on even though it was the wrong colour, and knew it wasn't right but really tried to talk myself into it. So third shop, tried on The Dress I Really Wanted in the right colour this time and it was really lovely but didn't make me feel WOW. Then my Mum pulled one off the rail (something I never would have chosen) and begged me to try it, I tried it and the rest is history... So 3 shops, 6 dresses. I never thought I was a girly-girl so when I tried on the one I'd picked from the start and didn't feel WOW/didn't get teary, I just thought that was me, it wasn't going to be like that for me. But then I tried on the one I bought and it WAS like that for me.

The first dress I tried on was the one I've ordered, think I tried on 6 in total but nothing compared to that one! Only thing was dress shop tried to charge me £1500 for the shop floor dress and to order in new £1700, so I popped online when i got home and found a bridal shop that could order it in for £1200 with £100 worth of accessories so very happy!!

I tried 3 on at the first shop, and fell in love with the first style. i went back to a few shops tried on about 10 dresses, and found in the last shop the same style as i fell in love with but at a third of a price! So insteadof £1300, i got it at £495 with free shoes!

It took me a couple of hours. i tried on 5 dresses, there were two I liked but one of them had something special, so I bought it. I was quite surprised when the shop assistant asked me how many other dress shops I had been into; it hadn't occurred to me before that it takes lots of brides several shopping trips to find the perfect dress.

I was the complete opposite, i tried loads on. In the end i went to 14 shops and tried on about 130 dresses. In hindsight it was a bit ridicuolous. I couldn't keep up with what i liked and what i didn't and was so confused. I've then worried for the last six months that i chose my dress because i fed up of shopping and just wanted my Saturdays back. I'm so relieved and suprised after my fitiing that i love my dress.

My dress was the fourth one I tried on... Tried three dresses on in one shop and then left because they were utterly useless and despite being a self-titled "flagship store for the bold and beautiful bride" (read "larger") they only had 3 dresses that I physically could try on.

In the next shop, I'd spotted the dress I'd loved from the internet so that was my "number 4" and I LOVED it but the shop and my MOH made me try on another 8 or so just to make sure :o) Ordered it straight away!

Took me ages! I thought I knew what I wanted (Ella Bridals destination wedding range) and went to look at the dresses. Was very disappointed that the dresses are a lot heavier than they look online. Tried a couple of simpler ones on in the same shop and although I looked OK, they weren't that "bridal" (Typically my Mum loved them, but she doesn't think I should be having a big fussy do!). Went to 2 other shops that day and was completely underwhelmed.

Second day, we went round 3 shops in the town where I live. In the first shop I liked one that was very bridal but not what I had in mind. I liked another but it was more of an evening dress. Second shop I described what I wanted and they put me in one that I hated. Then changed that for a weird salmon pink mermaid ruched thing that made me feel like a pregnant fish. Hmmm. Third shop, they put me in a dress that made me look like "hooker-bride". No thanks. Hot footed it to the town where I work, and again described what I wanted. They pulled out a dress that I instantly looked at and thought "hmmmmmm ugh" but they assured me it would be made for me. Then I put it on, and I was amazed, it was perfect despite not being what I'd originally imagined. Didn't want to take it off. Tried 6 or 7 other dresses there, but nothing felt right. Went to a final shop and tried on some amazing beach wedding dresses that looked great, but didn't feel like "the one". Went back with my best friend a few weeks later and ordered the one I hadn't wanted to take off.

So in short, 2 days, 8 shops, about 30 dresses, but it's true what they say, you know when it's "the one" (despite me usually being a boring old unromantic cynic!)

3 shopping days, total of 7 shops, tried on 50+ dresses... each shop helped me to narrow down what I wanted, style/fabric etc and by the 3rd shopping day I had a really good idea and totally fell in love with a Ritva Westenius dress... went back a few days later to get measured and order it with my slight modifications.

I thought I had found 'the one' in my first shop where I tried on 5/6.

I then had an awful experience at another store where they didn't show any interest at all so I thought 'right I am going back to my original favourite'

Since then I have spotted another one I really like at another store so I have an appointment to go and see them...bit worried as I don't want to be spoilt for choice and unable to decide but I am hoping I will just know once I have tried them both on....Its this Saturday 6th....fingers crossed!!

I probably didn't do it in the best way! My mum was going on holiday for a month and we live 200 miles apart so we agreed to dress shop in one long weekend (the only weekend we could both do before she went on holiday). So i booked 3 - 4 shops a day for 4 days straight with the idea that by the end of I will have made a decision on the dress.

I probably tried on an average of 8 - 10 dresses per shop.

The second shop I thought I found "the one"- it was exactly what I imagined I would be in. But I kept on going to the appointments because I had made them. The forth shop I tried on loads (I was there for two hours) and tried on the dress I went on to buy. I then went to a further 2 shops before cancelling the rest of the appointments because I had made up my mind. The headache was making up my mind beween the two dresses that I loved.

So I went to 6 shops in total and probably tried on about 50 - 60 dresses. I can't remember any of the dresses apart from the two I loved.

I tried some on, but found one online which was perfect. I asked the dressmaker to make me one custom fit and I have to say it is stunning on. I'm so pleased with my choice!

I've posted a pic of it on my blog (shhhh..font tell the Groom!) http://mytinyvintagewedding.blogspot.com/
