How long to allow for RSVPs?

HLT, 26 February, 2012 at 09:56 Posted on Planning 0 10

We are getting married at the end of August and we are hoping to get the invites out this week. We would like to get the responses back ASAP so we can amend the evening guests list accordingly. We are aware that many of our day guests may not be able to make it due to the location, but we want to go through the process of officially inviting and waiting for any declines. If we sent them out this week, would be unreasonable to request a response by the end of March?

Me and my OH were just having the exact same convo, we get married in September and want to do the same as you, to amend the day and night guest list accordingly! I was just thinking of sending them maybe April time for the day only and asking them to RSVP by the start of June, so then I can send the evening guests their invites to get them to RSVP by the middle of August.

Sorry not sure if that helps! I too am open to suggestions from the lovely Hitchers on here! x?

I sent mine second week of Jan and gave till mid March. This was too long as we are still waiting on 10 or so now. It's driving me mad! How can it take so long to decide??

I think give a month tops. People don't need that long to decide.

We sent out ours in jan and gave them till 18th of March for our day on the 18th of May. Looking back I think I gave them too long, with only 3 weeks till the date I'm now chasing people! How long does it take to make a decision.

Hi, I think a month is fine. If you give people too long they sometimes put it to one side to deal with later and then forget.

We're getting married Nov 2013. I'm going to send mine out the second I get everything confirmed and that way people can book the date as early as possible and noone can make a crappy excuse like "no money" or whatever.

I would say a couple of months before the wedding is reasonable as you have to confirm numbers with the venue.

We sent our overseas invites out two weeks ago as we figured those were the ones least likely to come. We have put an RSVP deadline for 11th June for 11th August wedding. We really want to amend the evening guest list too but felt like we couldn't put the RSVP deadline any sooner or it looked too obvious - sort of like saying, please let us know asap if you aren't coming so we can invite other people in your place'.

    Hi,

We are getting married bank hol weekend in August and sent out invites last week with rsvp by end of March. I know some people think it is early but with it being the Bank Hol weekend we wanted to give plenty of notice so people don't go away.

We sent our invites this week, with an RSVP by end of May for August wedding, we had about 20 replies the first day when everyone received them but I think I will be chasing people at the end of May.

We wanted to do the same and invite people in the place of those who declined, but we'll just need to wait and see how the replys come in I think.
