How many bridesmaids???

vicki-helena, 23 September, 2009 at 22:38 Posted on Planning 0 25

Hi everyone...

Im getting married on 20th August 2010 and am currently having a big stress!!! My wedding ceremony and reception are both being held in a country farmhouse, with about 50 guests in the day and 120 in the evening. I ahve currently asked 4 of my closest girly friends to be bridesmaids.... BUT my stress comes with worrying that the bridal party is too big! or too small!! How many bridesmaid have other brides have.... just to put me at ease! ?

Hi Vivki and welcome. You can have whatever size bridal party you want - some brides have one BM, others have 6 or even more - Its entirely up to you. You've done the right thing to ask your closest friends - those that came to mind naturally, rather then trying to make specific numbers...

but to answer your question I had 4 - now down to 3 as one of them got pregnant since then and is due on the wedding month (lives abroad so won't be able to travel...).

I'm not having any bridesmaids so I really wouldn't worry about it - have as many as you want! ?

If I was having bridesmaids I would either pick my closest friend/s or my cousin's little girl.

    Welcome to Hitched!

No hard and fast rules about how many BM's you have and how big the bridal party should be. I had just one BM and that was fine for me but every one is different.

    Welcome!

I think you should have as many as you want! I have been to weddings where there is just one, or as many as 6. Im going for 3 - my cloest friends. Likewise with Ushers...my cousin had about 12 at his wedding, however OH and I are just going for the 2!

    Welcome to Hitched!!!!

Its totally up to you how many BMs you have - there is no rules on how many.

I'm having 2 - my sister and a good friend. TBH these were the only 2 people I wanted to ask so if one of them couldn't do it I would just have 1

    Hello and welcome ?

I would agree with what the others said - it's completely up to you how many you have, the only thing worth having in mind is obviously how much the cost can go up if you have a lot. But if you can afford it and want it then it's up to you.

Personally I am having 3 bridesmaids and a flower girl, it is my closest family friend, my H2B's sister and my 2 cousins (1 as flower girl). I've had to leave out 3 of my closest girlfriends but I had to stop it there as I couldn't pick just one of them and didn't want to end up with 6 bridesmaids plus a flower girl!

It can be hard but just do what you feel is right and what you want to do.

    Hi and welcome to hitched!

Im having my sister and OH's sister as BM's my best mate as maid of honour and our god daughter who will be 2 at the time as a flower girl. But there are not set rules, its totally up to you.

Where are you getting married? Have you chosen any colour schemes or anything yet?

    Do whatever suits you best!

I'm having 3 bridesmaids and my little girl is flowergirl. If I had my way I'd have 10 bridesmaids haha

Hi and welcome to Hitched! I am sure you will find lots of helpful answers to all your questions along the way.

With regards to BM's...pretty much what all the others have said so far, it is completely up to you and is a totally personal choice.

Personally, I am one of those crazy bods mentioned above who have 6!! I know to some people that might seem excessive but the people I have chosen mean alot to me or OH and I couldnt imagine my wedding without them playing a big part. I have chosen 2 sisters, OH's sister, 3 Best Friends (1 of which is MOH)

    Happy Planning!

    Hey!

    Welcome to Hitched!

I'm sure I read somewhere that the general 'rule of thumb' is 1 BM to 50 guests....although like everyone else has said it's entirely up to you how many you have! I'm having 3 and possibly my daughter as a FG but am now only going to have 30-40 guests as everything's changed and we're getting married in Cyprus xxx

I had two BMs but that doesn't mean anything, you can have as many as you like. Four is not too many

Hey there....i didnt have any bridesmaids, for the reason it would have been hard to get everyone together shopping and my best friend wanted to lose weight so was reluctant to do dress shopping before this happened. In the end i had my best friend in the room with me on the day and everything worked out fine. If you have the budget have as many as you like, ive seen wedding pictures with lots of bridesmaids and it looks lovely, vice versa too if there are only a couple. Enjoy the planning.

Mrs Sheppard to be I'm glad someone is having nearly as many as me. I couln't make up my mind so i'm having 6! & 2 flowergirls (having as many males as females). My 2 sisters are very demanding & I couln't not have them. By the same reasoning I couln't just have them as they'd literally drive me insane. So i also asked my 4 closest friends, 1 of them is married but I wanted to have an even number. Now it turns out another of my bridesmaids is getting married before me next year so in theory I could have had 4 but I'm now used to the idea of 6, although I do feel a bit embarassed to tell people.

I say go with what you & your partner want.
