How many bridesmaids is too many?

SunnyGoldBridesmaid83302, 29 March, 2018 at 23:30 Posted on Planning 0 10

Hello,

We’ve planned to get married in April 2020/2021 and agreed on 6 bridesmaids however I want to ask another one of my close friends to be my bridesmaid too to take the total up to 7, my partner is fine with this but how many bridesmaids is too many? When we come to get married there might only be 6 anyway as I asked one of my family members to be my bridesmaid and she didn’t seem bothered by it and isn’t coming to our engagement party, I was a little upset with this as she’s in her early teens so thought she would be really excited but she didn’t react to it at all to how I had hoped. Thing is because she’s family I don’t want to say she can’t be one but I really want my other friend to be one too so is 7 too many? My partner has his best man and 5 groomsmen so there 6 of them in total too?!

There is no such thing as "too many" (nor too few) in my opinion. It's you and your partner's wedding - have as many as the two of you want.

It's really up to you how many you have but bear in mind that that's 7 dresses you will have to pay for so it could get very expensive and with 7 girls there are bound to be arguments and fall outs.

I’m having one - my sister who is my moh. I’ve had some people question my decision and encourage me to have more, but I’ve stuck to my guns and don’t regret the decision at all. You do you! I’ve heard other brides, who are now married, warn about bridesmaid fall outs and most say to choose bridesmaids wisely. The other thing to mention is that’s 7 dresses that need buying, hair and makeup to pay for, gifts etc.

Good luck with your decision Smiley smile

Sometimes overlooked is if you are all getting ready together at the same place then depending on the ceremony time you may have to get up very early. The most I have ever photographed is 10 bridesmaids.

    Thank you for all replying!

The girls all know I have a budget on the dresses as there are a lot of them and are happy (atm) with that. They all finally met the other day and got on really well so I’m hoping it stays that way as they are all pretty chilled, with the hair and make up I have family and family friends who are in hair dressers and beauticians and done wedding make up and hair before so that shouldn’t cost too much. It’s so hard to pick but I am happy with my choices just going to be very manic to sort out! At least I’ve got three years to plan as we’ve decided on 2021!

Most bridesmaids for me at a wedding was 12 and the bride is on this forum Smiley smile I wouldn't worry how many you have but it does get a bit crowded in a small room like Bill said Smiley smile

I have 9 and a mini one - I think it is personal. I could not leave people out but wanted some so asked them all and they are all thrilled.

It's yours and htb day so don't worry too much what people think as you cannot please everyone

The rule of thumb is at least 10 guests per bridesmaid (so for 7 bridesmaids = 70+ guests) this keeps the bridesmaids at 10% or less of the whole wedding otherwise your bridesmaid start to become a large chunk of the guest numbers (example 7 bridesmaid and only 40 guests = nearly 1/5th of the wedding would be bridesmaids)

    Hey,

I invited 7 close friends to be my bridesmaids. This is a personal thing, there's no many or fewer. Just do what you love. My big day coming up this June. Can't wait!
