How many copies of the wedding certificate..

squidgybob, 13 July, 2011 at 13:23 Posted on Planning 0 12

Did you/will you order?

We were going to order just one but my mum has pointed out that it may be sensible to have more than one, as most places require an original copy for changing my name.

What do you think?

We got given one at the ceremony, I will be ordering more though as I want to save the original original (iykwim).

The church charges £19 fer each additional copy though!

I ordered 2 from Reg Office so that we have a spare. It's cheaper to buy a copy on the day than to buy one after the event.

An OM at work recommended getting plenty of copies because of the need for an original copy for changing your name. She actually said get as many as possible so you've always got one. If it is cheaper to get them on teh day then I think I will do this. Anyone know what things you actually need an original copy for? I'm guessing bank details, passport and driving licence - is this right? Any others?

If you make a copy and get it certified as a true by a solicitor I thought that they were fine?!?!?

We got 2 copies which worked out a perfect amount for us. Don't forget how many copies you request, you'll have to sign on the day plus the 2 for the register etc. 4 was quite lengthy to be signing on the day and I wouldn't have wanted to sign much more! Plus your OH and both witnesses will have to sign them too. We were charged £7 per certificate. I'm not sure whether banks would need an original or certified copy but I just went into the branches with my original and it took 2 minutes - much easier than posting it in! I needed to send the original off twice - once for my pension provider and once for my life insurance (BUPA). And if you order a copy from the national register it will be a copy (costs £9.25 I think) and not an original. Your wedding day will be the only time you get chance to have an original. HTH

Sorry about no paragraphs I'm on my phone! Certified copies - you would think they'd be fine being signed by a solicitor but no some companies won't accept them.

I know... my church seems to triple the price of everything... it was the reason we didn't have the bells... £280 for 15 minutes! Even the church administrator said she thought it was expensive!!

I got 4 additional. Will eventually give both parents a copy in case of anything happening to our place, and enough to send off to a few places!

Ours are £3.50 extra if done on the day, £9.00 extra if done afterwards. Inspired by this thread I've just got off the phone from ordering another three for the day, so we have spares.

Seems there's a huge list of places she needs to send them to.

We have 4 copies. None have our signatures on or our witnesses' signatures on and we certainly didn't sign 4 on the day, just signed once in the big book and the certificates we have are "certified copies" made by the registrar with names written in rather than signatures. We do not have any kind of "original copy" with signatures on and the certified copy has been accepted everywhere so far (banks, university).

They cost £3.50 each but would have cost more to purchase after the day.

Reading other replies above makes me think that perhaps it is done differently in different places?
