How many dresses?

Charlied, 30 October, 2009 at 14:49 Posted on Planning 0 13

Hi.

Went to ANOTHER bridal shop today and felt like another wasted trip. Only 2 dresses to try on, and only did that because I didn't want to waste the ladies time (it was from her house). I think that now brings the total dresses i've tried to approx 35! I feel I'm never going to find 'the one' and if I will know when I see it, thinking of fashioning something out of an Asda bin bag at the mo.

So the question is.... How many dresses did you try on before you found 'the one?'

Well this probably won't help in your situation but I bought the first dress I tried on at the national wedding show because it was cheap!!!

I felt very bridal in it and I had some alterations done to make it more how I wanted it.

I never was going to be someone who searched for THE ONE because the dress was never that important to me. I would have worn the said Asda bin bag if that felt right.

What is the problem with the dress you've tried on? Is it the shapes/styles you don't like? Have you tried a good variety of styles?

Hop eyou find something you're happy with soon but don't let it stress you.

Tried on a few and ruled out A-line, princessy, too full, and long train, straps

    Im size
12, short, curvy but more peared shaped than hour glass. these are the two I most like, but not 100% sold on either.

I tried on about 15 dresses thought I found the one! Then went to another booked appt after some convincing by my lovely mum, tried on about 10 more and then found THE ONE!! with the right jacket and tiara too it was perfect and even better came in on budget unlike the 1st one ?

I am more hour glass and this dress is my ONE looked perfect on my figure. I think something quite structured is flattering for our sorts of figures and remember that alterations can be made to trains etc. You will definitely find 'the one' dont worry and dont worry about trying on lots of dresses you will know when you find THE ONE. Look forward to seeing your dress. My dress is Della by Romantica.

So know that feeling, I have tried on about 20 (although some of those were just to please other people) and still havn't found the one. Am started to get tempted into having one made, but that seems an awful lots of hassle x

On the day I bought my dress I tried on about 25 dresses between 2 shops and mine was the second one I tried - the 1st ivory one too (the very 1st dress I tried on was light gold).

That was in January but I went back recently and tried on another 10 dresses at another Bridal shop cos I was having dress wobbles. 100% sure that I chose the right dress though.

Keep looking - you'll find it (eventually).

Della is one of the dresses I short listed, this is very similar to the style I want, might have to go back for another try.

    Thanks for wise words Gillsy

    Hey Charlied,

Don't worry! I think I tried on about 45 (at 7 different shops) before I chose mine. I didn't have 'the one' moment at all, but then I always rely on what other people think before I can decide on things. Every dress I tried on was my favourite at the time. The more I tried on, the more confused I got.

I was really hungover ? the first time I tried the dress I've ended up with on and I was like 'oh, that's nice' but not 'oh wow!'. I couldn't even remember what it looked like the next day (no pics on the web - boo!)....

But my Chief Dress Advisor (who'd come to all of the shops with me) helped me draw up a shortlist of dresses to show my mum when she came down to visit and that dress was on her list (even though she couldn't remember it either, she remembered her reaction to it). Even the second time I tried it on I wasn't sure, as I was torn between it and another dress. But then we went back a third time (after an emotional evening of me wailing 'what do I do?!?!' over and over to my mum and CDA) I realised that whatever decision I made, I'm not going to regret because all of the dresses were lovely, so I bit the bullet. And, even though my mum tried her best to be objective, it was very obvious that she and the CDA liked this dress the best. Now I've realised that it was absolutely the right dress and I'm so excited and I just want to wear it all the time (waiting five months for it to be made is doing my head in).

So, after all that waffling, my advice is that it might be worth going back to some of the shops you've been to before, because sometimes the perfect dress is lurking in the corner and you just don't realise it because you're feeling stressed and under pressure to find it, and when you feel rubbish, you're unlikely to have a positive reaction to a dress. Chin up, keep looking, and I'm sure you'll find it. I don't think it matters how many you try on - nobody other than you is counting. You'll find it, I'm sure!

I tried on about 80, I went to loads of shops and loved every minute of it! Sorry, that probably doesn't help but there are loads of lovely dresses out there so keep your chin up, there will be your perfect dress out there. My favourite 2 were in the last 2 shops I went to so I was starting to worry that I couldn't find anything I really loved!

I have been to about 12 shops and tried over 100 dresses - i have liked loads but loved none - i havnt even come close to the 'this is the one' moment

I am getting thoroughly fecked off with it all now and something that was once fun is now a complete chore and i hate it.

i NEED to get something ordered by February and i am doubtful i will hvae 'the one' moment - i will probably just have to go for what i am most compfortable in i guess.

Jumblygirl - Thanks for the advice - wise words. I think you could be right about going back to the top 4 dresses (really annoying though as they are in different shops in different towns!) If that fails SHOEGAL ' Do you fancy starting up a 'can't find a dress' club?'

Why don't you start to think about the design that you want for your dress? In this way youcan easily go to the stores wherein you can find the design it would definitely save time, or if you waant you can just hire a tailor to make a dress that you really want.

If only it were that simple. Even ones I like online look different on, and it also works the other way round, the dresses I have posted on here I wouldnt stop to look at in mag or online, however when tries on they are the best so far for me.

I was really lucky and found my dress very quickly which was surprising as I was being very fussy about what I did and didn't want. I knew it had to be sparkly, not lacy, not fishtail, nothing too big etc but the decision was still a very hard one to make and I still 6 months on wonder if I choose the right dress! ? My dress was quite unique without being too different as the detailing was different to others I tried one.

I didn't cry or feel overly excited but it was the dress that stuck in my head and I couldn't wait to try on again. There is still one dress I would have loved, possibly more than the choosen dress, but it didn't suit the feel for the day I wanted and was a bit too expensive.

I hope both you and Shoegal find something you love soon. x
