How many of us ladies on here proposed to their OH?

moonpie1985, 26 March, 2011 at 11:24 Posted on Planning 0 6

And what was the reaction?

And did you make the right decision rather than waiting for him to pop the question?

Reason I ask, is that I thought it was very rare for the ladies to pop the question, but recently I have noticed a number of threads on here where the lady asked...

I waited 10 years for my OH to propose, so there were times that I had started to thing about it. But I was too chicken Smiley laugh

We both had a crack at proposing, I guess.

I proposed first - sitting in my Mum & Dad's kitchen one night I just casually asked him to marry me. He looked stunned but said yes. Turns out he'd been thinking of proposing on our next trip to Wales. Drat, ruined that one! I didn't get a ring or anything.

Then, two weeks later OH takes me out to a nice pub and 'proposed' with a ring.

So yes, I proposed, but my OH also did too!

I proposed to my H2B and he said no.

I had to wait another 3 years for him to propose to me. I have to say, he was on borrowed time - if he hadn't committed to me soon, I would have seriously considered moving on!

Depends how you define 'proposal'. We'd been saying for ages that we were going to get married "some day". He always said "after we move in together I'll propose and we'll get married and have babies".

So we moved in together, and I started saying, "so, are we going to or not?!" He is the sort of person who needs a kick up the bum to do ANYTHING and I am not the kind of girl to wait for years and years... I knew that if he wouldn't propose, I would have eventually left him, because we'd be wanting different things.

Eventually, after I pointed out how long weddings take to plan, he said "well let's go ring shopping". He knew he wanted to get married before we turned 25 and I pointed out, "I'm 22 soon, if we take a couple of years to plan and save up then we'll be 24, so if you really want to marry before we're 25..." I honestly don't think the "planning a wedding" bit had entered his head... he probably thought "oh I'll propose when we're 24 and we can get married then!" So we went and after seeing one particular ring (mine) he just got really excited about it whereas previously he'd been all "well we can do it any time". So he went back and bought the ring and planned a proper proposal all by himself within a week... I was thinking I might have to wait a few months!

We had talked about getting engaged "one day" and I was convinced that he was going to ask me when we were away at Christmas. After the first day of our holiday he hadnt said anything so I decided that if he wasnt going to ask by the 2nd day I would ask him. So at the restaurant on the 2nd night I proposed a toast in which I said something like "Heres to us tying the knott" He very quickly pulled his hand away and changed the subject and I was gutted. Later the same night he proposed to me with a ring that the had chosen himself and told me that he didnt want me to propose because he wanted to make it special!! It was!
