It varies massively from photographer to photographer. When we were looking for our photographer the lowest amount in a full gallery we saw was 251, the highest 1200ish.

We state in our contract a minimum of 400 all processed to our style, but realistically from a full day of photography (with 2 photographers) we generally deliver 800-1000ish.

The quality is always more important than the quantity though. I'd rather 100 amazing photos than 1000 ok ones.

We had 759 images, but our photographer provided them in both colour and black and white so there was a total of just over 1500 for us to look through :o)

I have seen some on line gallery's where you get 10 shots of say - your shoes - its almost as if the photographer is not very confident and so will give a scatter gun approach to cover themselves, I come from a film era where you had to get it right the first time so that "get it right first time" ethos is still with me today with digital although I do now enjoy the luxury of being able to take extra just for my own benefit so that I can pick the best 2 or 3 to go forward to some further editing

The amount that I deliver will depend on how long I am shooting for, if its up until the start of the wedding breakfast then I say a min of 300 but if it is until the first dance then its between 400- 500, it will also depend if it is a Church or venue wedding and if there is a car and so on.

If I take 6 shots of a subject I will then afterwards be choosing the best 2 or 3 to go forward for some extra editing. The extra editing can take days to complete and if I was to do it to everything I take then it would take weeks, so what you end up with will be between 300 and 500 but that way each will of have had some careful editing like this.

(you have to click it to see it do its thing ! )

Magic Bill ?? I do the same, sometimes something gets in the way and so I edit it out like Bill did above. As Bill says it really depends on a lot of things, two photographers then a lot more photos, the amount of time the photographer is with you and if there are a lot of things going on at the wedding, I think the last wedding I shot I delivered 500 and the one before that 650 so double those figures because I then convert all the colour photos to black & white as well.

I am just back from my sons wedding today and I think I have about 600 photos ready to edit??

I also take a few weeks to edit the photos to get them to the best I can but I do select quite a few and process them in to a Photofilm ready in a few days so the couple can have a taster of their wedding so they can view it while they are away on honeymoon ?.

    The answer is 'it depends'

The number of photographs you will get depends on several factors:

    1. The number of guests. Clearly you will get less from an intimate wedding of four than if you had 200 guests.
    2. The length of time the photographer is there. Again, pretty obvious
    3. Events of the day. I've had weddings where it's action packed and some where guests just sit at the tables surfing on their phones looking bored.
    4. Your photographer's style and attitude. Some are fairly relaxed about multiple shots, some will only give you one from each 'scene'

The best thing to do is really chat to your photographer, look at full sets and make sure you are happy.

As said above, remember to always go for quality over quantity. It's better to have 100 fantastic photographs than 500 poor ones.

Lastly remember that for most wedding albums you will pick about 100ish photos (depending on size) so having 1500 photos is daunting and quite useless. Better to have say 300-500 photos to whittle down. You still have a lot of choice.

Once you get over 1000 photos then personally i think something is starting to go wrong. I cannot personally see how you can maintain quality over that many images and there comes a point where you have to think "Should this person be a photographer.....or a videographer!?!?!"

We chose our tog's basic package which was a min of 350 photos. We got the 350 but it did seem he filled the numbers by taking a few really random shots inside the venue. Anyway, he provided them in colour and B&W so we ended up with 700 total.

We say 350+ photos from a full day wedding, but it usually ends up being around 500-600.

Our contract is for minimum 400 images, but looking at online galleries he normally delivers around 6-700ish.

I believe we were told about 200+ for half a day. The reason our photographer did not give an exact number is she said that it depends on, e.g. how many details there are for her to take pictures of.

For a full day, IIRC, she says 400-500.

Its the quality of the photography, not the quantity that matters most. As long as the coverage tells the story of the day. Every shot needs to have a purpose, not be a filler to make the numbers up.

We got 1300 images from our TOGs but from those, some were doubles in black and white. I loved the choice we got but I'm making my own album and I needed the choice to really give me the options I wanted. i recognise that that isn't what everyone would want.

Incidentally, Our TOG said that was the most images they'd ever produced for a wedding ?

I absolutely agree. It's important to get pictures for all the important moments, but you probably don't need 1000 pictures for that.

Hi!.... I tend to take quite a lot of photos so to avoid any chance of someone blinking and to get lots of candid shots too. But I will spend a lot of time going through the images to pick the absolute best ones out. I would normally present 2-400 quality photos to a Bride & Groom and then ask them if they would like any particular shot done differently (ie black & white, cropped differently etc).

There are some great replies you've had but I hope this helps!

Agreed. Our TOG hasn't given us a set number, he said it depends what there is to take photos of. I know his photography is great so I'm not too bothered how many we get, I'd rather 100 amazing photo's than 1000 average ones.

You say that now but when aunty betty isn't in one of the photos what would you say ? Seriously the more experienced the photographer the more/better the photography is going to be, I know photographers that will shoot 5000+ photos at a wedding but only deliver 300 of them and then I also know some that shoot 800 and deliver 400, both sets of photos are stunning, it depends on the experience of the photographer and how they work.
