How much!?

MrsRegantobe, 13 January, 2010 at 15:07 Posted on Planning 0 11

Afternoon all! ?

I've been looking for transport for my wedding now for what seems months! (in fact it's only about 4 weeks)

However I've gotten a few quotes and have almost fallen off my chair at some of them!

I know i'm cheap ? even on my big day i'm finding it hard to splash out.

I'm getting quoted around £350 - £450 for 2.5 hours i'm not really bothered about what car it is, limo, vintage.

Can anyone give me a guide as to what there looking at paying?

Thank you ?

We are using our own transport which is having a restoration and respray prior to the wedding. This is costing nearly as much as the reception ?

However, when I looked into hiring transport for bridesmaids, it was going to be about £450 and they were coming from Warwickshire to Cambridgeshire and doing 2x 3 mile trips from house to Church and church to reception.

It sounds about the norm to me

    Hi

one thing I am not up for paying loads for are the cars!!!...but if you try and find a vintage car club or something near you then you could check out when they are next doing shows etc, go along and meet the owners and ask if they would give u a lift to the wedding! many of these people will do it already and may charge a lot but some people are honoured to be asked! I plan on doing the same, we run a charity event at work and Ill be organising it this year. I plan to ask the owner if I like their car to see how much it could be.

    Maybe worth a try ?

I used our hire car (granted we were abroad, but even so) - I think it was a silver honda civic with a bit of ribbon on the bonnet.

Nobody saw me arrive as we had to walk down to the ceremony area and we left after eveyone else. So it didn't matter at all...plus saved us loads of pennies.

My OH is arriving in his own Toyota Supra, i don't need transport as i'm spending the night at the hotel but if i did, like what steelgoddess suggests and see if u can hire a flash car, it doesn't have to be ferrari flash it could just be a an exec car.

i think its a good idea as well to look for an owners club of the car u want on the internet and post on their forum asking if they could drive you their....only trouble is they might not actually turn up on the day

We are having a vintage car and only paying £275 for several hours with 2 trips and champagne included. Not sure where you are in the country but even so the quotes you have had do seem rather steep.

    Hi!

We are having a vintage car for only £200.00. They will do a trip for my bridesmaids, come back to pick me up aswell. After the ceremonie, they will take us for a drive with champagne and chocolates to go and take our pictures and drop us back at the venue!

Looks like i got a very good deal here! You should keep looking Smiley smile

I recently looked at car hire prices and am so shocked at how much some charge!

Luckily we don't actually need any transport as we're getting married in our hometown, and the ceremony and reception are in the same venue! My mum will be driving me to the hotel (next door to the venue) to get dressed in ?

Quote "I recently looked at car hire prices and am so shocked at how much some charge!"

Many people fail to realise how much money is required to keep certain vehicles available.

From experience service costs alone add up to thousands each and every year!

The last service my Aston received cost £5,500, the next will be £1200 probably within the next two months.

Spark plugs for example, on many family cars it cost's approx £40 - £50 for plugs and takes a few minutes to fit them.

On the Aston, it's a £850 job that takes a skilled technician 6 hours.

Add to that all the extra costs just to actually have the car arrive at your house! Examples:

Vehicle Insurance (Hire & Reward Cover)
    Public Liability Insurance
Maintenance and Servicing (many high value cars have to be stamped or they lose value FAST)
    Chauffeur's Wages
    MOT's
    TAX
    Fuel & Oils
Tyres can be Very Expensive up to £300 - £500 per Tyre

So factoring all that some hire charges are very reasonable, if of course the client wanted such a vehicle. Fuel alone can be expensive, with an average wedding day using half a tank of fuel, approx £50 worth.

This is why you see Supercar Hire at £850 a day, it is the associated costs that spiral it up, not to mention the car itself usually costing over £100,000 to start with as many firms lease hire or use finance to buy the cars.
