How much are you paying for...

MrsBoo, 15 September, 2013 at 10:46 Posted on Planning 0 29

Cake!?

This has probably been asked before but the forum search isn't working..

I was originally going to go for an M&S cake but after the wedding fayre last week I'm leaning towards a bespoke cake.

How much did you/are you paying for your wedding cake?

I've contacted several but only one has got back to me grrr!

We are looking for 4 tiers to serve 100 people. We also wanted buttercream covered not fondant.

I've been quoted £400 but have no comparison other than the m&s cakes.

Thank you!

I've just posted a thread (well I clicked post and it hasn't come up yet....) saying I'm looking for a 3-tier cake for a budget of £200, so where on earth did you get that quote from???! I bet it's hundreds of miles away from where I'm having my wedding but it's worth asking!!

Cake is one of those things that I outright refuse to pay for. It's just not an important part of the day to us. I think I will probably make it myself with my mum making an amazing gluten/dairy free tier for the guests with allergies.

Plus thats an extra £400-£500 on the booze budget Smiley laugh

Nothing! (apart from cost of ingredients)

I make cakes so am making my own...just doing a 2 tier one for the ceremonious cutting & having mini cupcakes as favours. I'm well known for cupcakes in my family having made hundreds of the things for various do's so thought it would be another little part of me to add to the day!

Wow...some great deals you've all got!

I think I'll shop around a bit then as £400 seems to be on the high side!

    Thanks everyone!

    Whereabouts are you based?

I had to ask a few places - the first couple were well over £300 for the type of fancy icing flowers I wanted!

Nothing. Cake was one of the least important budgetary considerations. We had a small plain fruitcake, iced, and loads of really tasty large cupcakes, all made by us/family.

£320 for two tiers. One 10 inch carrot cake, one 8 inch chocolate sponge cake. Supposedly feeds approx 110. In this style (but no ribbon or flowers on top) but icing will be pale pink and pale green like second pic.

As you're in West Sussex - look at Cloud 9 Cupcakes in Brighton - I got my three tier cake from there for £150, and they only use buttercream. It was amazing, everyone was talking about it for ages. We had around 110 people and I still took the whole of the middle tier home as it didnt get sliced up.

Kjay, your cake and flavours look fab! Am i right in thinking you are in the North West?

Do you want to give honorable mention to your supplier?! desperately looking for a recommendation for cake makers as our venue will have the cake displayed prominently so want something that looks the part!

    £355 for us.

We're having 3 tiers consisting of chocolate sponge & Baileys chocolate fudge, Vanilla sponge & blackcurrant buttercream and lemon sponge with lemon butter cream.

A 4 tier cake feeds well over our 115 guests but a 3 tier doesn't feed enough. Therefore we are having a 3 tier cake with a dummy 4th tier and then our cake maker is making us a small cutting cake to put in the back to make up the numbers.
