How much are you paying for your make up?

MrsBeckiW, 21 November, 2013 at 10:26 Posted on Planning 0 15

I had set myself a budget of £100 for me and £40 for BMs & MOB.

I'm struggling to find someone I like for that price who is available though. I'm quite picky when it comes to their website & how active they are on facebook. ?

www.bridalmakeupbyjuliet.co.uk is my favourite at the moment. Its £140 for me and £45 for others though.

I hate things going over budget, but I every time I find something that is more expensive I tell myself it is an important thing and worth it.

My make up is important and worth it, right???

So really I am using you to make myself feel better :p

I'm probably not the best person to reply as I begrudge spending the money on make up that I'm not buying myself, although I am having mine done professional on the day! My FSIL's friend works in Bobbi Brown, and I've had my free trial in the shop already, but she charges £80 on the day which I think is soooo expensive. My mum's local salon charge £50 in total - £25 for the trial and £25 on the day, so I'm also going to have a trial with them and hopefully if it's good enough, I'll have them on the day! I'll feel bad on my FSIL's friend as she's lovely, but £80 versus £50 is a huge difference.

Some people I asked quoted £150 though!!! Extortionate.

I don't think mine is completely comparable as it will be in France, but 50Euros for me and 25 for the BMs, and she is doing my trial for free as we are getting manicures and a massage the day before too (45Euros pp). I was surprised how reasonable, hoping the trial in April is successful!! Hair was a lot more though, 60Euros pp and 60 for trial too.

It depends how much you value it, to me £140 is a lot of money for make up, but you are right, it is important to get it right! I would keep looking about and see what others you can find. Where is your wedding? Other brides to be might have some good recommendations xx

I'm paying £70 for me and that included trial. I know nothing about make up so was never going to do my own and don't want to wear a lot of it on the day, so have deliberately booked someone who is slightly cheaper and does minimal, natural make up. I'd looked at a few MUAs and some were very expensive because they seemed to do quite dramatic make up, so I guess that put the charges up. I just wanted someone simple and not too flashy. Luckily my BMs are pretty good with their own make up so I'm paying for their hair instead.

I'm really lucky that my MOH works on the No7 counter at Boots and will be doing my makeup and the other BMs. She's doing it for free but I've still had to fork out over £100 for the make up and brushes. But I guess at least I get to keep it all afterwards. I would probably have done my own though if my MOH wasn't doing it for me.

I paid £200 for my hair and makeup inc trials (same lady did both). She was brilliant.

I didn't pay for hair or make up for my BMs - we have a couple of friends who are very good with that sort of thing and came to help out on the morning.

This is what I am paying. The discount is because she is the TOGs wife. The BMs is hair only, if they want their make-up done it will be an extra £20 each. They have said they will pay that, but to be honest if I can afford it I would rather not make is awkward asking them for money, so will try to pay for that myself. I think her prices are higher than others I have seen, even with the discount. However, I think she is great! She is bring an separate person to do the BMs too, so I think that is not too bad.
    Bride: £150
    3 x Bridesmaids: £60 each
    Bridal rehearsal: £70
    Sub-total: £400
    20% discount: £80
    Total: £320

I say go for it though, it is important you are happy with how you look and feel on the day.

One of my friends from school is a professional make-up artist and has a degree in it. She works for Bella Pierre cosmetics and has kindly agreed to do full make up with air brush foundation for me, my 4 BMs and my mother for £250. Shes travelling about 100 miles to do it too, so I', really pleased!!

If you book Juliet, you won't regret it.

She is an excellent make-up artist and the service she provides is worth the money that you pay.

Be sure to book her quickly though as she is highly sought after. :-)

This thread made me check my emails from my MUA - actually mine is costing £60 inc trial. Chuffed with my bargain there!

Wow £400 for makeup, that's more than most people pay for wedding photography & they are only with you for a few hours.

I think i paid 500EURO for me and 3 BM to get our hair and makeup done, i thought this was pretty good value. Particularly as I wanted my make up to stay put all day/night.

I think it comes down to what is important to someone and how much they can afford.

As with photographers, you often get what you pay for.
