We don't have a huge budget for wedding rings so mine was £140 but I honestly love it and cant wait to wear it. After the wedding I will wear it with my ER but it looks nice on its own as well.

    Flash for you Smiley smile

I'm probably not the best person to ask as I spent nearly £2000 on my WR.

My view is, it's going to be on my finger forever so I got something I really wanted than something that was"ok".

In answer to your Q do all ER and WR go together, no. That was part of the problem I had my ER is a very classic/traditional style but most of the WRs we looked at were very modern so didn't go.

I do think it depends how bothered you are about these things. I wanted them to sit perfectly together whereas my friend has a huge gap between hers and it doesn't bother her.

My advice would be just try loads on. Also, cost is irrelevant as long as you can afford what you're having and you love it - that's all that matters Smiley smile

We managed to get both mine and her rings for £140 total - complete unexpected bargain, happened to find "old stock" in the shop that was priced before gold prices had gone up which had the wishbone shape to go around the engagement ring, just needed resizing a little. Mine is a cheaper metal (can't remember which one) as I wasn't bothered about a ring (not a jewelery person) but is happy to wear one, but it was pointless spending hundreds of pounds on it when for about £40 it can mean just as much to us.

It's funny though isn't it how we struggle when we think of carrying a £2000 ring round with us all day every day but have no problem with carrying round the equivalent value of laptop, mobile phone and iPod...

Tbh I don't, everything is insured the same.

I do think you're more likely to get an electrical item stolen than a ring on your finger though. Mainly because I can't imagine most thieves taking the time to inspect the clarity of a diamond etc before stealing whereas they know what they can get for a laptop!

Ours were about £300 for the two. We both wanted plain bands, and we both wanted palladium, and we chose exactly what we wanted and thats just how much they cost! I did search around for the best deal online though - no point in paying hundreds more for the same thing! I didnt want a WR with diamonds as I'll want an eternity ring as well in the future.

I'll be wearing both my ER and WR on a daily basis!

Mine was my great grandmothers so free! OHs was 170 9ct white gold if i hadn't been given one i would probably have spent about 200. my ER is 18ct yellow gold and WR 22ct so they dont match exactly but fit together and i love them both! Oh wanted white gold as he prefurs that colour on him, so all in all abit of a mismatch! but we are both happy with what we have got so thats all that matters go with what you like and not with what you think you should have! ?

Exactly the same for us. We did have Smooch round and looked at every type of ring and think that the plainer bands suit us more. I did originally want diamonds but i think its too bling for me (did i just say that ?). We didnt set a budget but we are off to the jewellers that did our ER's and cant see it being more than £300-palladium.

OH was determined to spend a little more on mine because he didn't buy an engagement ring (his mother gave me hers and it is GORGEOUS!) we picked up our rings yesteday after ordering them in January. Mine was £275 and his was £59.99, mines just a very plain white gold band which looks perfect with the engagement ring - so excited now.

OH's is cheap, but he loved it in the shop before he saw the price tag so he can't complain. Plus I've just spent another £50 on a chain for him so he can wear it round his neck most of the time instead (he has nothing against wearing it, just can't risk getting his finger torn off because of wearing it at work lol)

We've spent just over 1100 for both of our wedding rings. We are just having plain platinum bands, as these will keep the white colour better. Plus... my engagement ring is platinum so I needed it the same. My enagagement ring is designed to sit flat against a band, althought the shop we got the WR from (albarose in Essex) take a digital copy of the engagement ring and can then design the WR around it. I thought very reasonable price, mine was 270 for a 2mm band engraved with the date, plus I got a free diamond! haha

We both have plain palladium bands, his was 5mm and mine 3mm - both for £235 from Neweys in the Jewelry Quarter. My ER is platnium, so not the same material but since they are both hard metals they will be ok together.

Hmm ask CB about that one! Her would be muggers were very interested in her ER

MrMini spent the traditonal months salary [and half again] on my ER and wants me to have the same sort of cost for my WR. I have however found an "off the shelf" one that I love for £200. Its a bone of contention for us atm as he wants me to spend more but I am trying to convince him that I love the £200 just as much as one that would cost £2000

    cheeky flash...why not!

I haven't got a picture of mine but it was about £680 for a platinum band (ER is platinum) with some little diamond chippings in it - did get £50 off though in a competition draw!! OH's is palladium with diamond cut pattern on it and I can't remember how much it is but I think it was around the £400/£500 mark?!

Ooh, good thread. The rings are something I've been really struggling to budget for as the range is ridiculous. All we know at the minute is that I want platinum (to match ER) and OH wants palladium or titanium. Oh, and I don't want any diamonds because I'm a cake decorator so need to take all but my WR off and I don't fancy getting icing stuck between little diamonds!

We budgeted £1500 for our WRs but most of it went on mine at £1100. My OH cost £450. He bought me a v expensive ER and as such, anything I tried on with it just didn't look right. It had to be platinum and I really wanted more diamonds- my excuse being that when we had our baby, I didn't have an eternity ring ? So my WR is a 3/4 eternity and I love it! I'll wear it forever ad look after jewellery so OH agreed to it. IWe spent so long looking and deciding, it took 3 months to finally order ours! It was great fun trying them all on though, so enjoy it!

Mini - sorry can't quote you my computer is playing up.

I was talking more about opportunistic theft. As I commute by train I know a lot of people get phones, ipads etc stolen when left on the tables and they turn away or something.

Electrical goods are easier to sell on too.

Our rings will work out at about £250 for the two. No diamonds or sparkles, but OH will have my fingerprint in his and I will have his print in mine. Pretty soppy, I know, but we just aren't blingy people and wanted something unusual Smiley smile

My OH's ring was £315, he only wanted 5mm 9ct Gold, with a third polished finished and two thirds matt finish, with engraving inside.

Mine was £410, for 2.5mm or 3mm (Can't remember til it arrives) Palladium band, with 5 x diamonds across the top third of the ring, with engraving inside.

We also get 3 x freshwater pearl bracelets and a Best Man keyring free. Our rings are from Smooch.

We haven't set a budget for our WRs, as we're just going to go with what we love.

I want something plain though, and OH wants something quite unusual. We haven't started looking yet though, so have no rough idea of cost.

Our wedding rings were really important to us.

OHs original choice were £1,200 for his diamond wedding ring, but by shopping around we got both for a touch over that - both wih diamonds - mine in white gold and OHs in palladium.

@ Vintage - different people say different things.

Our jeweller advised not as when you first get it, your ER and WR will probably be polished up to match each other in advance of the wedding, but overtime the palladium ring wouldn't change colour but the ER would discolour and the palladium would emphaise this and mean you'd be constantly getitng the ER replated.

Other than that, there is no reason the two can't in terms of they shouldn't wear each other down.

Congrats on everyone staying so sensible so far considering that this topic sometimes leads to people to start b**ching so I am very impressed. TBH I dont think it matters how much you pay for your rings. Different people place different values on the actual rings.

I have a very explensive engagement ring (I'm not showing off or flashing my cash it is just a fact and this fact helps to explain our thinking re rings) so we decided that OH was going to get a far more explansive wedding ring than me as we thought it was unfair that I had all that spent on me. As my ER is bling I have gone for a very plain 9ct white gold WR which we bouht at HPJ in the sale so it was about £80. OH chose his WR and it cost about £700. He got a plain one as he never normally wears jewellery and so thought that he would prefer something plain and simple, however after just a week of wearing it he has decided that he now wants a sparkly one for when we go ouut and will continue to wear his one during the day. So even with all our planning re rings we got it wrong!

There are def bargins to be had if you time it correctly, and it may be worth asking different jewellers when they think there may be discounts.

    Wow love this idea!

We budgeted about a grand for the two but went slightly over - mine has to be specially shaped so was about £680 eeeshk! OH was about £400 as it is quite wide and really solid feeling, it suits him perfectly and I can't wait to see what Smooch have done with mine! My ER is due back any day now... missed it so much!

Ours are £720 from glodsmiths but as i work at tesco and brainwashed with clubcard i have doubled my coupons and then got 20% off!!! so think they cost us £125 in cash.

I intend to wear just my wedding band for work as my ER was expensive and dont want to damage it

both fit nice together and to be fair i will prob wear both haha!!

We didn't plan to spend as much as we did for ours but we couldn't find anywhere else what we wanted so we bought them from Cool Joolz for £611 for both, white gold, including the Celtic pattern we wanted on the bands. We're having identical ones, only his is slightly wider:

Will be wearing it with my ER which one day will be a real one - we couldn't afford one now and I don't care tbh. One day when we are better off we'll replace it. The current one cost £18, sterling silver and cubic zirconia from Debenhams. Like my MIL2B, who wore a dress ring for 17 years until they were well off and my FIL2B took her to Dubai and bought her a beauty. Only she rarely wears it as it's quite big and expensive and a bit impractical for every day esp when you live in middle of nowhere in Scotland and look after 3 dogs, 3 cats, a lot of wild birds and falcons...

No one could tell about my ER though when my OH set it up and photographed it:

Aw what a cute photo VP! i assume he proposed during summer??!!! ?

Mine and OH's rings are plain platinum bands, just his is thicker. Think we paid about £1800 for both of ours in the Birmingham Jewellery quarter.

Thanks MrsBear2B! He's a landscape and wildlife photographer and now and again does still life pics...this was an experiment he did LOL. Yes he proposed in Paris in September 2009 but then we actually talked seriously about dates in March 2010 and that's when we said let'd get a little dress ring to stop the looks LOL. I was going to bridal shops and they thought I was wasting their time as probably I wasn't even engaged (they couldn't see a ring!)...
