How much did you manage to negotiate??!?

Meggiemoo1981, 11 November, 2011 at 13:27 Posted on Planning 0 16

Hi,

I realise it'll be different shop-to-shop but, if you managed to negotiate a price on your dress, how much did you manage to knock off?? I have found an absolutely stunning dress that I love but it's a bit pricey. Just wondering whether it's realistic to knock enough off!!

Thanks

I'm not going to be much help as ive not started even looking yet, but it'll be interesting to see what other girlies have to say. It never crossed my mind to negotiate a price, i'd be a bit embarrassed to ask but i might get my mum to ask lol, she's as bold as brass! ?

If you dont ask, you dont get! Go for it (or ask mum too!).

Mum asked for some money off mine and I got my side hair piece for half price as i bought the dress, shrug and hair piece all from the same place!

    Good luck!

I didnt ask but I said my budget was £1,000 and the dress was £1,300 so they knocked 10% off as they knew how much I wanted it

I got a free BM dress worth up to £200 when I ordered mine (it was a shop promotion, obviously designed to give you one free then expect you to order the rest, but I only have one BM so it was a bargain!). I also want a lot of alterations (sleeves made, train shortened or removed etc) that they said could come in at £350. I have got them down to a flat rate of £125 regardless of what I want done (I'll decide when the dress arrives). Didn't manage to get anything off the price - I did mutter about it being double my budget, but they went on about the amount of fabric in it etc, etc so I realised I wasn't going to win that one!

Hi, I think being cheeky definately pays off! My dress was £1199 and I managed to get 5% off and got £100 towards a veil or tiara. I chose a veil which cost £139 and she let me have it for free! Another good tip is to play different shops against each other, they will usually give you a discount to get the business x

Go for it. If you don't ask you don't get. You could ask for a discount or extras such as the veil or shoes. Every Penny counts and you'll have more for other things! Let us know how you get on.

    Good Luck

I only got £50 off mine but it was already on sale. my advice is if you're new to bartering practice with a dress you don't want, see how to improve and then do it properly for the one you want. I think i'd have got more off if i'd known what to say in response. It's worked brillintly for other things like florists and venues

I'm going back next week to try and negotiate. However, I found an ever prettier dress today in a different shop and was basically told if I find it cheaper elsewhere then come back with proof of this and they'll match it or beat it. They've already given me 10% off without asking so I feel like I'm in a good position to get a good deal!

    Hi,

I found my dress (a sample it has to be said) £500 cheaper elsewhere (also a sample) through the wonderful world of google. I then asked my favoured shop, bold as brass, to match it. They did.

    "Shy bairns get no sweets".

(a saying from my neck of the woods)

I got 150 of mine which was just over 10% and then they are going to make me a free underskirt as i only was the volume at the back to hold the train,

i was pleased with that as in another shop (same dress) she would not budge at all on price ans was charging me extra for the underskirt!

Cheeky but you can always do what i did and find the dress in another stockist and see who will give you the best deal!
