How much do we need to do to make it a great day for our guests???

LEMBS8, 8 February, 2012 at 21:34 Posted on Planning 0 10

Okay - we're 67 days away now! I really want to make the wedding a great day for our guests, especially since so many of them are coming from abroad. Sometimes I think everything we've planned will be great and then I think we need to do more. What do you girls think?

This is what we have planned so far:

1. Everything is happening at a country house we've hired exclusively. Ceremony is at 2pm. Guests can arrive from 12noon and enjoy the garden and grounds.

2. After the ceremony there will be a blessing in the tiny chapel on the grounds for those who want to attend.

3. The drinks reception will start after the ceremony for those who don't go to the blessing. If the weather is good, it will be outside in the garden. We'll have an Irish trio playing during the drinks. (H2B is from Ireland).

4. The house also has a billiard room for the lads.

5. There is a dining room with sofas for people to lounge. There's a tv in there so we thought we'd have a slideshow of photos of us as kids and up through our relationship. Later, we thought we'd have movies and games in there for the kids - and adults who want to join in Smiley smile

6. After the drinks reception we'll go to the dining room for the wedding breakfast. After the dessert and before the speeches we're having individual 6-inch cakes brought to each table in 4-5 different flavours. When we cut our cake, everyone else will cut theirs and can go to other tables to try the other flavours.

7. Music and dancing will start after the speeches and can go on as long as we want.

8. We're giving artist-designed magnets of local sites as favours and possibly personalised biscuits too.

We were thinking about having garden games and H2B has suggested having some additional entertainment like Irish dancers. If these will make the day more fun/more special for guests, I'm willing to do it but I feel like I don't have the time or energy to organise more stuff!

Is anyone doing other things at their wedding that would make a great addition? Do you think we've done enough or should I try to get the garden games and dancers sorted?

Thanks!

I think you have done enough, Attending your wedding and being at a lovely venue will be a great day for them! Saying that I have been to a wedding where they had Irish dancers and it was amazing, the bride went to an Irish dancing class and the dancers were all in her class (some entered competitions so a good standard) but they all looked pros so maybe find your local Irish dancing classes and see if they can perform? It may be cheaper!

Sounds like an amazing day to me - so much attention to detail! It's making me consider thinking about my guests a bit more now. I certainly think you've done a lot more for your guests than they would get at an average wedding. I hope you have a lovely day.

Sorry and I have just re-read it - forget garden games and dancers - you have done enough - spend the money on your honeymoon!!!

I would say you've got enough there. Too much might actually overwhelm your guests, not knowing what to do with themselves with so much to choose from!

The only 'entertainment' we're having is garden games and a DJ in the evening. People can entertain themselves.
