How much do you pay for gas and electricity?

Knownowt, 12 June, 2009 at 17:55 Posted on Off Topic Posts 0 22

Just got our first quarterly bill- £180 electricity and £250 gas for the quarter, 4 of us in a 4 bed house.

This seems a lot to me. How much do you pay?

Ours has just gone up as we had a review

We were paying 25 for electric and 38 for gas a month so that would be 75 & 114

We are now paying 88 for both combined so that would be 264 jointly so yours does sound quite high we have a three bed detached house which is new and keeps the heat in quite well if that helps

£60 each a month, we live in a 3 bed house (3 of us during the week, 5 at weekends) so £360 for both a quarter.

We're paying £59 a month for both combined for a modern 4 bed detached (2 adults and 2 kids) so that's £177 a quarter. We were slightly in credit on our last bill which would make up to £10 a month difference. I do send in a meter read every time they send a bill to make sure that we aren't over or underpaying - they wanted to drop our monthly payment to £34 recently on the basis of an estimated reading, it was upped to £59 after I sent in our actual meter reads.. I've noticed that they've started to recalculate the direct debit every 6 months now rather than annually but that only works if they send out a meter read every 6 months or you take your own reading!.

We only have electricity and for a 2 bedroomed masionette flat with two adults and one child we paid £378 for the whole of last year. It seemed ridiculously cheap to us but our energy company have assured us many times it's correct.

We pay £175 a month for G&E combined, but we're paying for our winter usage now because they only assess your usage every 6 months, so in the winter it should go down to 120ish.

Too bloody much is the actual answer to your question ?

£70 p/mth for both in a 3 bed 3 storey semi (2 peeps 2 cats) and tend to break even

we do have peaks in winter where we are in debit, balanced by warmer / cheaper summer times - the service provider started out wanting to charge £110 per mth, to which we would not agree

We pay £64 a month for both, not sure what the individual breakdown is. 2 of us in a 2 bed house, although often just me on my own in the week (and dog)

I swear we're going to suddenly get a massive bill as ours seems so cheap. We pay £40.08 for both (i.e. combined) per month, 2 bed mid terrace 1989 house. We haven't had the heating on since April IIRC but we do shower, bath Finn 4 times a week etc. - it's not like we're that economical iyswim.

Ours has just leaped up due to winter usage. £75 a month for electric and £65 a month for Gas, and we are in debit. This is for a 3/4 bedroom town house (so over 3 floors) with 2 adults and 2 children.

Ours is currently £45 a month for both combined but I was paying £100 until 3 months ago or so and then they changed it when I gave them actual meter readings and bearing in mind we're going into the summer. It's probably about £75 for both a month evened out. This is a 2 bed victorian (and fairly cold) house with 2 adults, we shower a lot and also have fairly regular baths (with a heat on demand water system). We use a dishwasher, washing machine and tumble dryer (although try not to use the dryer too often). H would have the heating on all the time if he could, I turn the thermostat to 17 and tell him to get an extra jumper!

Yours does sound quite expensive but I think ours is quite cheap at the moment because I think we use a lot of electricity (although we are both out from 7 - 7 every day during the week).

We have just moved into a 2 bed terrace and pay £100 a month combined so no idea if it is going to be enough. Our last house was a 2 bed detached with only electricity and our bill for 6 months was £1250 ? We felt sick when that one came in!!

    2 adults, 2 children. 3 bed victorian terrace. £400 a quarter combined.

Too much. way way too much. I don't even know how we can reduce that any more.

2 adults, 1 child, 3 dogs, a hamster and a fish. 6 bed, 4-storey mid Victorian terrace. £133 gas per month, £45 electricity per month.

I have just switched from British Gas to Eon, but NPower and EDF are both promising a cut if I move to them. Bah, I hate utilities.

We pay £81 per month for gas and £52 per month for electricity. There are 4 of us in a 4 storey 4 bed Victorian terrace. We're in credit for both so I should ring to get our monthly payments changed really. They changed our monthly payments before we did a lot of work to our house: we now have new efficient boiler, a lot more insulation in the roof and we had our old rattly windows replaced with double glazed timber sashes throughout, so we should be saving a lot more energy now.

We have just had our payments reduced to £113 per month for both. There is just 2 of us in a 3 bed house but h works from home so has heating on 24/7 in winter and air con on occasionally in summer. We also have at least 2 computers on 24/7 and others on during the day so I don't think we do too badly.

We pay about £360 a quarter for both combined. That is over the winter though and is for 3 of us in a 3 bed detached with drafty windows!

I am trying to get it down and keep switching off things but I think the killer for us is using the tumble dryer as that is on about 7 times a week so we bought a new washing line today and are going to make an effort to get the clothes on the line.

I'm in a 2 bedroom masionette flat in a 1960/70's towerblock and we roughly pay £20 electric every 12-16 days depending on if I'm in during the day when I'm not working. No gas, only have the heating on in the bedroom over the winter as we get heat from below most of the time...

So we're around £120 a quarter but we are on a top-up as and when you need system,

    J
