How much do you pay for getting your hair done?

Fruit Gum., 7 September, 2008 at 20:40 Posted on Off Topic Posts 0 47

My hair needs doing every 8 weeks as it grows very fast, but I never get it done when I should (time etc you know the drill)... but money also plays a huge part in it, due to my horribly boring hair colour, I like to colour it as well so that obviously adds to costs etc. But blimey, it's £50-60 for a cut and colour, every 2 months? I can't do it!

Am I actually getting a good deal here, or should I be looking somewhere else for a standard (short hair) cut and colour? I'm based in the midlands. Does anyone else feel the pain when they hand over the cash to pay for a hair cut?

I pay £34 for a cut and blow, I used to have highlights but that would be £80 altogether! I need mine doing every 6 weeks max as it's fairly short.

I think I do quite well really, I go to a fairly good hairdresser, town centre, south west. I paid £26 for a cut a blow dry at the weekend and a cut, semi colour and blow dry would be £44. I didn't have it coloured this time, I didn't think my hair needed it but I do like a trim every 8 weeks. My hair is past my shoulders. The price you're quoting sounds pretty normal to be honest, not hugely over-priced but then it does depend on the salon. My SIL paid £85 for a full head of highlights, cut and blow dry last week.

I used to just get it cut and blow dried and it was £22 but now I need to have it coloured too (permanent colour) as I had too much grey to do it decently myself and it is £50. Sometimes I get a root touch up thing from the shops just to do the roots which helps eke it out a bit longer between salon visits!

    Hi,

I have mine done every month & pay £60 for a cut, treatment & some foils, it's a bit of a killer but my hair feels so much better for having it done.

I pay £110 for colour and £55 for cut and blow dry. If it wasn't for the fact I love my hairdresser I would find somewhere else.

Pay £20 for a cut & blowdry at local hairdressers & then do the colour myself (use a more expensive kit, one with highlights in too, can't remember what it's called)

last time I went to get a colour too at a different hairdressers it was £90 I think (end up with highlights, plus semi permanent to cover the grey bits so it costs more)

    I'm in Hampshire

I have a mobile hairdresser, have had her for over 15 years, I pay £12 for a cut (I dont dry my hair unless I am going out so no point paying a hairdresser to dry it) I used to have a colour and that cost £25 (two colours in foils) on top of the cut. I now use a DIY one and I get loads more comments on its lovely colour and it only costs £5?

When she was on maternity leave and I went to a hairdressers it cost me over £80 for the same cut and colour and it was no where near as good as my mobile hairdresser.

(I am in the midlands too!)

I have short jaw length hair which i have cut and highlights, used to be every pay day when I was working full time then when i went part time I tried to stretch it to every 6 weeks but it is hard those last couple of weeks as it feels awful. I pay £105 for this ? (I'm in surrey). About 10 years ago I used to pay £135 every pay day...obviously that was before I got sensible with a H and 2 children ? I did try to save some money for a couple of years and went dark so i could dye my own hair and just have cuts (£45) but I am back to blond....with ever-growing roots that tell my true colour!

I get mine done every 3 months, it's quite long and I can usually stretch out the colour that long (although it is desperate for a colour by the time I get it done).

I've recently switched from the out of town hairdresser I have been going to for about 6 years to one in the city centre, I was getting bored with my cut and colour and they weren't listening to me and I got frustrated. So I decided for my birthday treat I was going to try uber trendy salon in city centre and unfortunately loved it. She put shocks of red through the bottom of my hair, I'm blonde on top, then she curled it and it just looked fab. Been back twice now and I couldn't return to cheaper hairdressers, although my hair cut and colour has gone up from £50 to £80.

I pay £120 every other pay day for a half head of highlights, cut and blow dry- I'm in Twickenham, Middx. A year ago I decided to go DIY brown and just go for cuts, like Nickynoonaa describes above, to cut costs. I then hated my hair for 8 months, and found the colour always looked flat and boring and made my complexion look dull. 3 months ago I started on the highlights again and it's worth every penny.

Mine costs between £150 and £180 depending on what I have done every 8 to 10 weeks. I do have it done at Aveda but I wouldn't go anywhere else now.

I pay £20 if I have a cut and blow dry, and £10 if I just nip in for a dry cut/trim, which I do sometimes. This is what I get for my money - I love it.

In the past I've paid a LOT more, but I've never found such a reliable hair dresser as the one who cuts my haior now. I've been going to her for about £6 years. FG, I'm in the Midlands too, South Birmingham.

Thanks for the replies. It's been good knowing there's a range of prices and I'm paying about average it seems.

Lumpy, can I PM you - would you mind telling me where you go? I work in Birmingham so would quite happily go from work if she does any late evenings in the week? If I'm going to change my hairdresser, I'd rather go on recommendation!

Yep, no problem. Actually, I don't see any reason why I shouldn't give them a name and praise here. It's Panache in Baldwins Lane, Hall Green. Cindi cuts my hair usually but Rehka, who owns the shop, has done it on occasions and I've been equally as pleased.

Great pics and great prices Lumpy!

I get my hair done on my local High St but only every 3 months as I can't afford it any more often than that. I pay approx £110 for colour to my regrowth (two different blonde shades and a dark brown chocolate panel underneath on one side) plus cut and blow dry. I do get a bottle of salon shampoo thrown in (which makes me feel better about the cost!)

For me it is £50 for a cut and blow dry and about £80 - £90 for half head highlights. (About as I usually buy shampoo / conditioner at the same time so I am never sure of the actual price)

    This is in Surrey.

Mine's just gone up for first time in 3 years - £65 now £67! That's in East Mids, and is for a cut / blow dry / straighten and half head of colour. I get on really well with my hairdresser, who has done my H's hair for 20 years! It's just him in the salon at the moment, so there's never more than one other client in at the same time. He's very funny - could talk the hind leg off a donkey, turns his hair dryer off mid dry to say things (never, ever, book with him if in a rush!) and has been known to stop mid cut to rush to the window (1st floor) if there appears to be something gossip worthy going on in the street! I always have fun when I go. Also (BT-ish) I like that he's got to know me now... so when I was TTC, he'd told me about losing their first pregnancy, and when I lost mine, I got a fab cuddle and real understanding when I broke down mid hair cut. I wouldn't go anywhere else!

Im in N Ireland and go to David Aumonier where I pay around £90 for cut and high/lowlights every 8 weeks.

My husband is always outraged at the price since he pays 5 quid for a cut at the barbers. ?

I go to the RUSH Academy in Croydon and pay nothing for cuts and colour.

They have all been qualified for 3 years or over and go there to learn new techniques and applying colours etc.

I had circle layers on my last cut and my hair (to me anyway!) looks amazing now.

Far too much, I think a cut is £75, colour £140 or £205 for both although sometimes she charges me less.

Is it worth it? I always thought so but if I'm honest we really can't afford it anymore hence why I haven't had it done since the end of May but after 9 years I can't bring myself to leave her, especially as she is so good. With the exception of last years perm (which I forced her to do ?) I've never really had a bad hair day...

Still, I'd love to find someone just as good for half the price but it's so hard, she's a part of my life and I'd feel like I was culling a friend. It wasn't so bad when I was adventurous but I just seem to have blonde colour and a trim these days.

I pay £36 for a cut and colour. I have been going to him since I used to get a spiral perm (many moons ago).

I did go years ago to Vidal Sassoon in Glasgow for one of their training days and it cost me £5 for a haircut. I loved the cut, (wasn't highlighting my hair at the time) but I was there for about 4 hours.

    £8.50 every three weeks.

Unless of course, I get irritable and take the guards off my clippers. Then it doesnt cost a penny.

My hair needs colouring/cutting every 6-8 weeks and costs £75.00, it is £30 for a cut and blow dry. I hate paying that much but I love the way my hairdresser does it so it is a small sacrifice for nice hair.

When it was longer it used to cost me £30 every 3-4 months.
