How much does a BM cost?

Kate84, 24 June, 2008 at 13:09 Posted on Planning 0 17

hello,

I am trying to budget my BMs and I am slightly suprised by all the unexpected (to me) costs that keep coming up in posts. I ve been looking at average BM dresses (ie. mori lee, alfred angelo etc) which I expect to be around £150 mark depending on dress, plus shoes, hair, jewellery etc.

What suprised me were fitting costs, if its not too personal what is the average for this, how many will they need etc? Anything else I should be budgeting for?

I was hoping my two adult BMs to be sorted for £500 (excluding flowers) is this doable or am I underestimating?

    This is what my adult BM are costing (there are 2 off them)

    Dress - £26

    Shoes - £6

    Flowers - £25

    Gifts - not sure yet but budgeting £30 max

    They are doing own hair and make up, not buying their underwear (still dont get that one!!).

    Sound like a proper cheapskate!!

    I think its doable. Here is a list of our charges for each of the three. I must admit, if I'd have known about the expense I possibly wouldn't have had them all.

    Dress £200

    Alterations £35

    Shoes £30

    Hair £45

    Make up £50 including trial

    Jewellery = presents £20

    Flowers £45

    Accommodation for the night before as I don't trust them to turn up on time £55

    I'm not even going to total that up!

    Wow! are you getting them off the high street? I was thinking about doing this but they both live abroad so wouldn't be able to try on, migght not be able to get hold of the style when they're there etc.

    They are from Bhs. MIL2b works there and recently had the task of catalogueing (?) all the "faulty" stock that had been returned from all the South West stores. I say "faulty" as apart from a (very very) small bit of shop dust there is absolutely nothing wrong with them! They have to be cleaned (which is another cost I have to factor I guess) but isn't going to cost much. S with the reduced price and MIL2b's discount have got a complete bargain. Same with the shoes except they aren't returned stock they are just really cheap!!

    Maybe getting the wrap as well which will work out around £6.

    Mine have cost so far, and i've got 3 of them:

    Dress - £175 each

    Shoes - £12 for two pairs and £25 for the other one

    Tiara - £15 each

    Jewellry - £9.00 each

    Little thank you present - £20 each

    Hair - Not sure yet, they're not having anything special done just a wash and blow dry on the morning of the wedding, possibly about £15-£20 each

    Make up - They're using their own and doing it themselves.

    mini BM dress was £65 and adult BM was £90 (ish) both from BHS and didn't require altering. They are sorting their own shoes out so that they are comfortable. mini BM won't wear makeup and adult BM will prolly do her own (or mine is being done by a friend so she will help). Both are doing their own hair - mini BM has a bob so can't do much with it and adult BM is just straightening hers.

    Flowers, I'm making corn dolly bouquets myself (in fact adult BM is helping too as she is much more arty than me!!). My mum is sorting out jewellry which will also be their presents and I think she is aiming for about £15 each (she gets big discounts at the shop she'll be getting them from as she does their gardens for them!).

    Kate: you can buy from BHS online and return by post - My BMs are at the other end of the country and we never met up to try on so its feasible for you too! I went into BHS and figured out what to get, then emailed the details to the BMs and transfered the money into their bank accounts and they ordered them then sent me pics of the result!!

    I have six!!!! Here is the breakdown from my end:

    Dress = £80 so far (ordered dessy dresses from US), am estimating an extra £50 each for importing them so £130ish

    Alterations = They all need quite a bit so I am estimating minimum £50 each

    Shoes = £25

    Makeup = They are doing themselves

    Underwear = Their own - I wouldnt even think of buying it!!

    Hair = £25

    Flowers = have no idea as yet!

    Jewellery on day = £15

    I think £250 each is doable xx

    Whoops forgot pressies - I think you can range from any price really depending on what you want to get. xx

    Cheers dudes. I think I am on track, hopefully alterations won't be too expensive. One average sized, the other is a bit tall but otherwise within the norms (!!!the're my sisters, I can say this!) so hopefully not too many alterations. Jewellery I was thinking about £30 but giving it as the present, and they're getting their own underware (a controversial question i know)!

    ps. why can't I spell today?

    I have two adults, one teenage and a baby

    Adult dresses (Alfred Angelo): £125 each

    Teenage: £100

    Baby: £25

    Shoes: All BM's have pale gold strappy soes already so are wearing their own

    Underwear: Definately sorting themselves out (weird to buy for them??)

    Accessories: Am buying them all necklaces (double up as presents)

    Hair and make-up: Will be doing themselves (unless they want to pay for their own).

    Now I feel tight!!!

    I know! I am sooo pleased with them, especially the price? We had 3 to choose from, all around the same price, and BMs chose these!
