I've had several quotes and they've been between £800-£1200 so it sounds about average to me. Unfortunately we can't afford that so we'll have to do without!

As its only now that we are looking into things i cannot believe how much things cost. its shocking, i m sure that as soon as you mention weddings to people they put an extra 0 onto their price.

now i am starting to get stressed that we cannot have what we want ☹️

Being in the business, we charge between £500 - £3,500.

Our costs are such things as camera equipment, audio equipment, grip equipment, computer equipment, editing software, public liability insurance, professional indemnity insurance, magazine adverts, wedding fairs, brochures, business cards, web site hosting, vehicles, car insurance, fuel, tape stock/memory cards, music copyright, dvd cases, recodable dvds, printer ink, printer paper, envelopes, stamps, attending course & conventions to stay up to date with the latest technology, etc, etc, etc.

We have to cover these costs, and still make enough to pay ourselves a wage at the end of the day. Our hourly rate can vary greatly, depending on how long it takes to edit the final production. Personally, I've seen myself take between 4 days to 12 weeks to edit a video, but I always charge the same amount for the first edit, and will only make a further charge should someone ask for a re-edit.

Therefore, you should now have more of an indication as to why videographers charge what they do. However, I would strongly advise that you still see samples of previous work, and find out as much as you can about a potential supplier. As with any business, there are many people who move in with an eye to make a quick buck and cut a lot of corners whilst still charging the same.

Anyway, I wish you all the best with your wedding plans and hope you find someone suitable.

    Hi Louise!

We paid £700 for our DVD, it included 3 camera's all day they started at my sisters house to film the men getting ready and leaving, the other came to my mum's house to film us getting ready & leaving, the other was at our church to film all our guests arriving. Then all three were set up in different locations inside the church to film the service from different angles. They did the same at the reception venue.

They stayed until about 30 mins after the first dance just to catch some of the other dancing which is great on the highlights.

We got 3 copies of it on DVD, each lasting just over 2 hours. He uses alot of special effects when changing scenes (e.g from the church to the reception venue), which adds something a bit different to it.

With regards to chair covers I can't help on that one, our caterers provided all the decoration for the room where we had our meal so we didn't do anything there!

    Lots of luv

    Victoria

    xx

Ours was a very reasonable £60! And we love it!

Think the ladies costs would have gone up now though as it was a special price for us to help build up her portfolio but I'm so glad we found her!

I think videographers these days charge around the same as photographers, because it's not a case of pointing and shooting any more - couples and the technology are far more sophisticated... plus the style of wedding videography has changed and much more editing is involved to create a film with a 'storyline' which people will want to watch again and again, rather than just a minute by minute record of the day with a few fancy soft-focus and slow motion scenes ?...

however that can still cover a huge range of budgets depending on exactly what you want ... £1000 is definitely at the top end, but it depends what you get for that and the quality of the coverage and finished product. make sure you have a good look at their demo, and perhaps ask if they have any previous customers willing to give a reference.

As a videographer just starting out I charge at the bottom end of the scale (£250 this year, £350 for the first ten weddings next year) while I build up experience and get my name known in the area.... so there are opportunities out there for couples on a budget if they can find a new business.

? it's definitely worth doing though - photos are lovely, but you won't catch all the little moments that you get on a DVD...

The only advise I can give, would be to make sure that if you are looking for a videographer for your special day, go and see them, do not accept a dvd through the post and book on that alone.

At the studio, you can then ask to see, anything at all, so that you can check the consistency and quality of the work being provided, check that they will be discreet and film from tripods, that they have the necessary licences. Make sure you feel comfortable with the people concerned and that you can trust your special day to them...It is One day, One chance....Family history in the making.

A professionally filmed and edited wedding video, can take 4 or 5 days to edit, plus the time spent filming on the day, if you balance this out against what you pay for flowers, chair covers etc, you are getting a good deal, remember that the memories captured on film are forever, not just for the day.

    Have a great day

It's not worth contacting your local college to ask if any film students want to make some extra money is it?

Obviously it's not the same as having a professional company, but I know when I was studying, quite a few friends of mine made wedding videos on the side. It really depends what you want.

Dream machine are right that you only get one chance at this, but you might find that you get a nice result. To be honest editing software packages like Final Cut Pro are readily available to anyone with a decent Mac so you might still get a good result.

Just an extra thought. Good luck! I hope you can find what you're looking for!

The larf is on them....as others have said, film is not dead. There is a market still for retro style coverages with movie film. 16mm may be expensive although there is a demand (albeit small) for super8 wedding coverages as well.
