How much for favours?

Kat44, 20 October, 2010 at 20:33 Posted on Planning 0 29

I'm just wondering what a sensible amount would be to spend on favours for guests?

I have a few ideas for favours and don't know whether to go to the expense of getting all of them in a goody bag for people or just limiting myself to one thing! I want to stay away from traditional almonds / couple of chocolates.

I think it might be an idea to give myself a limit of x amount per person, but not sure what amount.

How much have you spent / will you spend on your favours?

Kat

I always recommend that you don't spend more than £1.50 per person. The money is better spent somewhere else, such as your photographer, food and drink etc. Don't get too hung up on favours tho. I have planned many a wedding where we didn't bother with favours and it wasn't even noted by the guests as so much attention had gone into other things.

I've spent about £25 in total.

£6 for bags from ebay and the rest on chocs - I went to a wholesaler and bought a huge box of chocs and filled the bages with 3 per person

For approx. 150 guests mine have cost me around £20 so far (in total) but I still need to get some A7 envelopes for them to go in. They are seeds favours that I've made myself (but not the seeds obviously!) Plus a free drink voucher for the bar (but we've bought the alcohol ourselves at low cost). Plus maybe something to 'glam' them up on the front of the envelope, I would say in total no more than £50, so approx 33p each!

We're doing the traditional sugared almond thing but are only giving four as we don't want to include fertility as we don't want any more kids. ?

I went to a wedding where they had these, however it's only on looking on here that I realised they were meant to be favours. Everyone there thought they were just decoration, and most of them were left on the glasses. Bar a few that had been bent and played with by bored blokes during the speeches!

I have already thought of that! There will be a little card with the bag which says something along the lines of "the charm on your wine glass is a gift from the bride and groom as a thank-you for sharing our day with us".

The charms will also be personalised with their initials.

What I really like the idea of is plantable paper, then people will see flowers in years to come and remember they came from our wedding! Though they seemed quite expensive so have considered buying full sheets of it and cutting our own shapes out of it.

But I'm also liking cadbury dairy milk minatures (our colour) and so wondering whether to go down the sweetie root, mini love hearts etc..

Then I am wondering about something altogether different! just not sure what!

I want to give guests something that just lets them know we are so glad they have joined us for our wedding!

Thanks for all your responses so far ladies

I'm keeping mine simple, and making them myself also. Traditional organza thingy (not the pouch bag, but the ones you make from a disc of organza) with sweets in, but the centres of them are little black and teal marabou feathers with crystals.

The organza fabric is a teal/peacock blue and cost me about £7.00 from the internet, but I did get more than i needed just to play it safe, the feathers cost about £5.00 (but some are being used for the cake decor too), the crystals i already had from another project (i used to do wedding flowers etc as a hobby) and the sweets i'm allowing about £10-£15 for as i'm unsure yet what i want.

    so in total thats:

at the most: £27........an theres approx 100 guests, so thats 100 favours.... i think thats pretty good going. though i do enjoy making things myself.

We're already going way over our original budget as everything else adds up (and I keep having ideas of things that *I simply must have*), so we're thinking of keeping our favours relatively cheap. I was originally going to have little favour boxes which I was planning on decorating with butterflies (our subtle theme) and filling them with sweets, but now I've downgraded to little organza bags in our colour scheme (sage green/baby pink) as they're cheaper. We like the idea of sweets, but aren't so keen on the "traditional" wedding sweets, so are thinking about that at the mo, we were thinknig of maybe going retro with penny sweets or something a little less like the norm.

Something that I did see that I loved . . . but am not allowing myself to go for as it'll work out far to expensive is these cookies, they could double as favours and place names:

Absolutely my point when it comes to favours, that unless told, a lot of people will leave them behind. When I do the toastmastering I make a few announcements before the bride and groom are announced and one of them is that ' the B & G would love for you take 'the gift' home with you at the end of the night as a way of remembering their special day'. If you don't have anyone doing toastmastering, but the charms in organza bags with a note to say that they are to be taken home, this goes for most other favours too

Forgot to say that after the daytime reception, I cleared all of the cups from their tables and placed them out onto another table with their place cards so they knew which was theirs and then had gift bags at the side of the table for guests to use to take them home at the end of the night. I announced this to the guests before Sara and Rhys walked in and everyone took them.

Really like this idea, what was the cost per person (with flowers I presume) and where were they used?

We spent about £30 on mini jam jars (from ebay - the sort you get when you go to hotels for breakfast) and then cooked up an almighty pot of jam (with some help from my lovely Mum) with fruit we picked. Adds a personal touch and the guests loved them! We also had fun cutting circles of cloth for the jam jar tops and putting ribbon around them. You can also put a lable on the jam with your names and date of wedding!

    Good luck!

Ours will be less than £1 per head for sure - we've got clear plastic bags from ebay and filled them with retro sweets from a quarter of, and we've included mini love hearts, those sweetie necklaces, double lollies, a couple of chews etc. Then we've tied these with ribbon to match the colour scheme and added name tags so they double as place cards.

Not sure how much we will spend overall yet as I am making them myself.

Ladies are having soap. So far I have bought the moulds and scent costing approx £7. The soaps will go in little bags with a label with our names and wedding date etc.

Men are having homemade jam. I've bought the jars, costing 50p each, plus labels for them from Vista costing nothing but postage. I already have a load of apples and blackberries in the freezer for when me and my MIL2B start making the jam Smiley smile

Originally it was going to be about £30, just some organza bags with goodies in.

but now i am having cancer research favours which obviously cost alot more, but i have my reasons for doing this. I think that will cost me about £100
