HOW much for the children's meal?!?

Lizzywills, 2 June, 2014 at 23:25 Posted on Planning 0 25

I'm in shock. Have just had email from venue confirming that children between 3-11 can have a children's meal ie sausage and mash for half the cost of adult meal. That means it's going to be £22 for sausage and mash, or chicken goujons and chips. I'm speechless and feel totally ripped off.

Anyone else got silly prices for children's meals? It's too late to do anything about it but what a Mickey take!

The venue we're looking at do children's meals at £12.50 and half portions of the normal main meals at £22.50. That does seem steep...

That does sound a bit steep, our children's meals are mini versions of the adults meals and are half the price [£7.50] ;-)

That sounds quite pricey, I thought my 12.50 was expensive!

Mine is £15 - but that's a starter, half portion main or chips & something and A kids dessert....

didn't think that was to bad. Only thing is the kids menu is different from the package so they don't get chair covers... (Little extra you's might want to look out for!!!)

Ours is £13 for children under 12 for a 2 course meal. We want them to have something for a starter so it will be a little more.

£22 is quite a lot but in the wedding world nothing surprises me!

Our venue is being amazing. Stand by to be amazed at our prices:

3 course meal for adults with a choice of 3 starters, 2 mains and two deserts plus tea/coffee, table water - £26 per head!

3 course meal for children done as a half of adults will be no more than £10 per head or they can have the actual childrens menu, 3 courses - we're giving them a choice of three options for their main - for around £6 per head.

We're also having a picnic when we go on our vintage bus ride at £7.50 per head but only catering for 75%

Then later in the night it's bacon or sausgae butties for £3.50 a head.

We have been bowled over buy how reasonable our hotel's prices are. There's no buncing anything up just because it's a wedding. Quite the opposite. It's not a low end hotel either, far from it. It''s just realistic and honest when it comes to occassions. The reviews I've found and validated for weddings are also superb. We're well pleased Smiley smile

When we first went to the venue we asked about children - bearing in mind all kids are under 9. She was like oh yeah we do mallon balls, chicken in this sauce and some sort of dessert, my eyes glazed over I know for a fact the children in my party will not eat that! I asked for chicken nuggets and chips, she came back out saying we can do chicken Goujons, some sort of starter and icecream for £10.. I know what the kids in my family will eat!

This is why I had to disregard one of the most gorgeous venues I have seen. We could afford the venue.itself, but at 40 a head, it was just too much. We have around 90 guests, so it is just under 4000 just for flipping food! And there is no meat involved, its just veggie!

Thankfully now with our new plan, we can feed 100 people a two course meal for 13 quid a head... Thats more like it lol!!

I am feeling majorly ripped off right now...Ours is 50% off the adult price so £58.50 per 4-12yr old.

All of the prices per head include the venue hire and everything but I have the feeling its the same for all of you too ?

Our central London reception venue charged £85 per adult, which was the whole package (room hire, reception drinks, food, chair covers etc etc etc). The children cost £15 each, which I thought was very reasonable. We had afternoon tea as our meal and the hotel do a really special children's afternoon tea which is superhero themed, so the children had all these cool Spiderman and Batman themed cakes etc. Our guests thought we'd really splashed out on something special for the kids! Ha!

We're having a bbq for our wedding meal and our caterers wont discount the food price for children because although they dont eat as much they go back to the buffet more times apparently! Ridiculous!

I'm happy to pay it though because I love my venue and everything else is so reasonable.

Our venue is charging £37 for children's meals. The age limit is 12. We were shocked at the prices but we can't use outside caterers :-(

Our venue charges half the price of the adult meal, around £20 for each under 12. I think this is pretty standard. We are getting a discount for having 2 veggie and 1 meat option rather than 2 meat and 1 veggie for starter and main, which I thought was good.

We're paying £30 for our sons meal (only kiddie there) and we were quite pleased with that as it's less than half the price of the adults meals.

I assumed most places were these prices purely because the wedding world in an expensive one Smiley sad

Our kids meals are £25 per head, adults between £50-70 i think depending on which package we go for, so fairly expensive I guess, but it is supposed to be fanstastic food...(tho thats the adults food, if the kids menu is traditional kiddy fayre then Im not sure how fancy they can make nuggets and beans lol!) We ahve to use the venues caterers though so we knew what we were getting into.
