How much have you negotiated with vendors/suppliers?

Hugo Brambles, 6 October, 2009 at 21:56 Posted on Planning 0 9

Inspired by 'Don't tell the bride', how much have you negotiated with your vendors and suppliers? On TV they seem to cave in and discount loads but not sure how realistic that is?

My whole wedding has been about negotiation, we ended up with 20% off our venue price (including room hire, we are getting married there too, food drink and a complementary bridal suite) i got 10% off my dress and a free pair of shoes, im getting balloons, 3 BM dresses, tiaras, veil, BMs shoes, limo hire from the same supplier for £520 I managed to get my flowers for less than £200 secured my cake at this years price ! the same with our photographer. The entertainment is the only thing not really done on a budget costing £1500.

Our whole wedding comes in at around £6500,

It's always worth asking the question - all the supplier can say is 'No'.

Oh god I'm terrible at haggling, i just don't have the courage to do it, I get too embarassed. And I die of shame if OH does it while I'm there! Its so stupid really as I could probably save zillions!!

You could be like the Kirstie Allsopp of the wedding world, 'we're not prepared to pay the full asking price, but i have a couple ready to get moving on this so i need an answer soon!'

I'm venue hunting this weekend, i shall have to channel your haggling skills!

That's interesting - how exactly did you manage to get discount? Did you play one supplier off against another or ask for discount because you'd only budgeted XYZ etc? Just wondering how you've worded it?

    Lorna I am very impressed!!

I dont think I can haggle on the price of the venue as we have already said yes (booo!) But we are meeting with the wedding lady next week, any tips on how I could go about trying to get things like chair covers etc at a cheaper price?

Also hoping to meet with Cake lady and Flower lady next week

any tips would be greatfully recieved
