how much is a candy bar?

Gem_k, 19 October, 2011 at 09:25 Posted on Planning 0 13

Hi B2B Smiley smile

I am considering doing a candy bar if i can pick all the bits needed up for a good price. Anyone got any hints as where i can get good priced quality sweets, jars (already thought of Ikea) also need bags or something to put them in.

If anyone has done/ doing this for their wedding what budget have you set to do it and how do you know how many sweets to get (background: i am a sweet a holic and can't stay out of the old fashioned sweet shop Mr. Simms!!! In one visit for just myself i spend £20 - only once a month mind - so i can eat a lot!)

Thanks for any hint's & advice.

Have a good day, Gem x

We were going to do one ourselves and had bought stripey paper bags off ebay (for around £2.50, you can also get scoops and tong from there too) and were going to look at cosco for the sweets. We saw vase's in IKEA and also the range do large martini and brandy glasses here:

    http://www.therange.co.uk/home_and_furniture_home_furnishings_home_accessories_vases/dept/fcp-category/list?productsPerPage=62

We ended up getting a company to do it for us (costing £75) and thats my biggest regret of the day because it was poor and not what I expected at all. With regards to price, I guess it depends how many you want to cater for and how many sweets you buy.

Hellooo, we're doing a sweetie buffet too!

There was a lady on the For Sale section on Hitched who sold me all of her sweet jars for a very small sum, so keep an eye out on here for other members who sell their stuff after the wedding.

As for tongs & bags, go to eBay. There are a lot of Chinese sellers who are selling tongs REALLY cheap (be prepared to wait a month or so for them to arrive though).

Sweets... again eBay. Or Costco/Macro. Or, I've found a site, keepitsweet.co.uk who sell all kinds of sweets for £7.50 per kg

I am hiring one from a company. It is a retro style sweet cart with all the gingham bits and bobs, fully decked with loads of sweet, personalised bags and labels, and a member of staff in a traditional sweet shop owner uniform (think the guy who sings "the candy man can" in Willy Wonka!). This is costing about £300 I think. Undoubtedly I am paying for the 'spectacle' of it, and for the convenience of getting it delivered, set up, manned and then collected, which for me is worth it.

I'm doing one myself and wanted a few bits to be ably to put my own stamp on - me and my mum have searched around and just in our houses alone have a few bowls and jars suitable but I intend just keeping an eye out for suitable containers over the coming months. Sweets agree costco or mackro and lidls / aldi also are pretty good - i already picked up some pink bon bons going cheap in lidl and they will still be well indate :-) Look forwards to seeing a flash when you do yours!

Make your own - then it can be more personal.

Ikea do good sized jars at good brices, or you could look in Poundshops etcc.. ?

I agree Ebay is a great place for the sweets, bags, tongs even the 'Sweet' signs. Jars are easy to come across asda have some for £1 and you could try local charity shops for more variety. I would definetly agree with others if you do it yourself you can add your special touch to it, and would probally be alot cheaper to do it yourself too.

I have a friend who just got married and bought all the stuff to do it herself , I've managed to get a loan of it from her for nothing Smiley smile

ASDA have a lot of glassware that is cheap, try places like B&M & Homebargains they often have cheaper things in

For the sweets themselves try something like Makro or Costco if you know anyone who has a card Smiley smile x

We hired one for £150 including 7 jars, tongs, a big banner, and labels for the jars plus 7 types of sweets (we keep these!) postage is free too

Also considered DIY sweet trees from the same place too. https://www.yousnap.co.uk/

I've also managed to get the jars off my MOH who's getting married a few months before me.

As for sweets, I have a sweet shop locally that I'm hoping will give me a discount for a bulk order. It's just a normal sweet shop not an "old fashioned twice the price" sweet shop so hoping for a good deal.
