So, im working on setting up my cakey stuff, and have a calculator on excel i use to work out how much it costs to make cakes (taking into account ingridients inc icing, boxes and supports if stacked and so on). I dont factor in the time it takes as such as i dont feel im at a level good enough to charge proper rates for that plus im not a professional so i simply add in a few pounds to the total...

How much would consider paying for a cake like this for instance? Im just gauging reactions and getting ideas so i can eventually work out and hourly rate:

The first cake, I would expect to pay about 100 for anniversary, but if it was the same cake but for a wedding, more (£150ish?!)

Love the wedding cake, it's so pretty, and you definitely ARE good enough to charge labour prices! Don't do yourself out of money. Or sell yourself short!!

Btw, can I ask what sizes you used for the wedding cake in the pic? ?

Go a bit higher than you think as you sound as if you will underprice yourself. It is far easier to reduce your prices when you get going and know if it is working out than put your prices up later. Also you can then negotiate prices until you get to the right level. The saying that something is only worth what people will pay is true.

thanks Flow, looks about the size I'm thinking of for ours so wanted to check....someone recommended we had 8, 6 and 4 which I thought would be ridiculously small!

I think it really depends on the detail of the cake and possibly the occasion. I would be willing to spend more on a cake for a wedding than a birthday despite depending on the design the birthday cake could be just as time consuming to make.
