How much is your honeymoon costing??

*libby*, 7 May, 2011 at 21:35 Posted on Planning 0 61

We get married in 4 weeks and haven't even thought about our honeymoon yet.

We have 2 children and still have the whole do we leave them behind/take them with us and short break/full on holiday decisions to make!!

We don't have a budget for it yet really so it will probably be on the cheaper side although we are getting money as gifts towards it.

How much is yours costing and what are you getting/where are you going?

TIA

Hi, We have a little girl who will be 2 when we get married in Sept. We are going away for a week to Italy, spending 4 nights in Venice & 3 nights in Rome. We are leaving daughter with my mum and sister who will take her away for the week somewhere in the uk.

It has cost us £1900 but we did upgrade a few things like private boat transfer from airport to hotel and 1st class train journey to Rome from Venice.

I really can't wait for this holiday x

Aww Mooey I'm very jealous! I went to Barbados years ago without H2b as I booked it before we started going out and would love to go back with him one day!

Dilly Dandy, where is the cottage if you don't mind me asking?

Sound lovely, we were thinking of a short break in Italy or something without the kids then a family holiday another time!

Our honeymoon is our one big extravagance, we decided to go all out for a once in a lifetime trip. We're going to Singapore for 2 nights and Bali for 11 nights and it's costing £4500. Our last holiday together cost 10% of that so I had a few sleepless nights about spending that sort of money!

19 days in Singapore/Bali/Malaysia, £6200, room only throughout. Hoping for some flight upgrades! We looked at Italy but wasn't anywhere near as good value for money in terms of accommodation etc. But clearly easier to travel to with family!

We've recently got married & went to London on our honeymoon (we live in yorkshire & hadn't been to london for about 15 + years so fancied a bit of a city break with afternoon tea, a show or 2, etc), didn't take my daughter (who is 12) - she's going camping with guides this summer, plus a school trip to paris and disneyland (and we have a family holiday to norfolk booked for later in the year!). We definitely enjoyed having a break from her, plus we only went monday morning to thursday evening. Hotel in central london near buckingham palace cost us £375 for 3 nights b&b, went down on Megabus/megatrain (cheapskates, i know lol) - total cost of return journey £20.50, 2 shows cost us approx £220, afternoon tea £50, otherwise it was just usual spending money, drinks, meals, etc. Oh, we did do an open top bus tour, which was £26 each - worth it though!! We paid for the transport beforehand and the shows, then used some of our wedding money to pay for the hotel & spending money, still have about £600 wedding present money left.

Ours was an extravagance for us, helped by a honeymoon gift list... 7 nights touring Sri Lanka followed by 7 nights AI in the Maldives - £4,500

We normally have last minute holidays to places outside of the EU (Euro just makes everything too expensive!) which cost around £250-£400.

Favourite places are Egypt and Turkey... but quite hot for little ones.

This is probably one of the only things OH and I are not going to fully agree on.

We were originally going to have a quick reg office do and then have an all singing, all dancing honeymoon, but then I wanted to have a reception and party too, so now we will have to not spend as much on the honeymoon.

I don'tmind where we go, as long as it is not the UK, OH's parent's have a house in Spain so I am trying to convinve him to just let us go there or a fortnight, then plan days out/excursions. I can't bear the thought of being stuck in a complex with loads of familys and other peoples children, this will be possibly the only time for a while we will be child free, so I wanna make the most of it!

I'd been saying to OH since 2007 that i wanted to go there but we could never afford it so now i thought my honeymoon will only happen once so im going there haha Smiley laugh cannot wait!!

We may book a last minute deal. H2b has booked the week after the wedding off work and wants to go straight off somewhere but Id quite like to wait until after the wedding to book it and see what we can realistically afford and then its something else to plan when the weddings all over!

I assumed that we'd be better off not mentioning it was a honeymoon if we went into a travel agents as I thought it was like the 'wedding' word-adds money on straight away- but a few people have mentioned they've got discounts, upgrades etc as it was a honey moon, is that right?!

we booked with Thomas cook & its called 'grand sirenis Riviera maya'. We know 2couples who have been for honeymoon + anniversary. They loved it & said staff were great & couldn't do enough for them. Some reviews on trip advisor arnt great but tbh the bad ones are mainly from Americans! Me+OH arnt big travellers so I know we'll be delighted with the smallest things & maybe don't have an high expectations as some people if that makes sense? Ie some people have said th buildings need renovated - that's sthing that wudnt even be on me+oh's radar! Google it x

We've gone for trip of a lifetime for ours so we're going to Machu Picchu in Peru, then to Buenos Aires and finally a week on the beach in Rio de Janeiro.

Flights were £2400 for both of us but still need to sort accommodation. Seems to be craz cheap in Peru & BA but more expensive in Rio... cannot wait to experience South America!

We will probably end up going to New York (where we go on holiday most years) for a week or 10 days, and it will cost about 1500-ish as we will probably upgrading our flight but don't have to pay for accommodation as my OH works away a lot and will use the hotel points that he's collected ?

Ours cost £2750 including premium upgrade on flights, for two weeks AI 5* Cuba - Holguin in March. We booked a standard room but got upgraded to superior on arrival along with a few other extras thrown in for honeymoon: free breakfast in bed, bottle of champagne in room, & romantic meal. We booked with thomsons via the phone, who actually found and offered us exactly the same holiday with they're portland sister company for £100 less.

The reviews were fantastic for Mexico but I didnt look at the reviews for the Maldives... plus my OH would have gone stir crazy in the Maldives as its more for the relaxing holidaymaker and we really wanted to go and see the Chichen Itza etc.... Plus we got a bloody deal with our T.A x.
