How much on hair and make up??

Hannahx, 6 June, 2012 at 16:57 Posted on Planning 0 22

Hi

I know everyone has very different ideas of costs and budgets but I was wondering if people would mind saying how much they are spending on hair and make up (including a trial). I have had some really varying costs and whilst I don't want to spend too much I am worried about some people perhaps not being as good if they charge less. But then another bit of me wonders how bad it could be so long as you have a trial??!

Any adivce greatfully received!

Thanks x

I've just tried to do my own hair after wondering if £130 is worth is for a curly bun thing (£65 each way for trial and day).

turns out it is, my hand eye hair coordination is shocking, my arms ache and my scalp hurts.

Might hunt about for less than £100 for both but honestly will be paying for someone to do it for me Smiley sad

Bride makeup - £150 inc trial

Bride hair - £65 inc trial

    BM's - £30 hair and £30 makeup or £50 if having both.

I think thats pretty good, and the higher cost for bride is balanced out by a very reasonable price for BM's.

I cant comment on make-up as im sure i will do my own (I dont wear that much anyway) and want to look like me!

This comment may be really naive but when i pay my hairdresser to put my hair up for weddings etc it costs about £30, why would it cost anymore just because its my wedding? I do trust my hairdresser alot, and will be inviting her to my evening do (we went to school together) but I pay that to the salon she works in, and was planning on going there the morning of the wedding.

    Higher profile event, more pressure?

Also sounds like you are going to a salon - many of the prices you'll see people here list (inc myself) are for the person to come out to where you are getting ready (home/venue etc) so obv the cost will be slightly higher for that. Many MU/H artists will only take 1 booking per day.

Mine is costing £110 for make-up including a trial and £110 for hair including a trial. So £220 in total. I know it's a lot of money but it's actually one of the cheapest I could find. It will be the only time I ever have it in my life so I think it's worth it just this once...

I was going to do my own makeup but FSIL (who used to be a MUA) has offered to do it for free so cant comment on that.

Hairdresser is coming to the house to do me and 2 BMs for £150 (plus my trial was an extra £20), we couldve all gone to the salon for £75 all in but i thought it was worth the extra to be more relaxed and at home in the morning...

Mine was £480 in total for: one hair and makeup trial for me, hair and makeup on the day for me and four BMs (plus a "bit of blusher" for my Mum). For both trial and day, the MUA travelled (and on the day, she brought a pal to help).

Yes I will be going to the salon, my mum has already refused to have photographer at the house so there is no way she will have a hairdresser there!

I always wanted to get ready at my parents house but they do seem to be doing a lot to stop it!

my H2B will be at our house though as his brother and SIL are living with his parents.

The only other opition nearer the time is a hotel but I wanted to go from the house I grew up in ?

Mine is £440 for my hair and make up, two bridesmaids hair and makeup and my mums makeup. That is including a trial for all but one of my bridesmaids as she is not around. The complete trial cost is £110. I think this is pretty reasonable as she is coming on the wedding day at 8:30 and staying for as long as we need her!

(My trial is tomorrow so I will let you know if it is worth the money!)

£28 fo hair up (£30 if we want extensions pieces in) - same for me and each of the BMs.

Make up £22 each for me and the BMs, £8 to put on false eye lashes also.

£25 extra to travel to the venue.

This was much less than other quotes I'd had... And she comes recommended from a wedding my sister was bridesmaid for last year, and they all looked lovely!

I looked online for the kind of hairstyle I wanted, saved the picture to my phone and went into a salon I've used before (only once though as it's normally too expensive!). I'd already seen on their price list that wedding hair was £85 without a trial. But I didn't mention the W word, I just casually showed them the picture and said I wanted that style for a "do" and she said it would just be the cost of a blow dry - only £26! (it wasn't a complicated style ; half up and curled). I've honestly never understood why the bride's hair is normally twice as much as the bridesmaids.

First of all congrats on your forthcoming wedding!!! With there being 2 brides in our civil partnership we have definitely seen the costs double for these types of things. We paid £30 trail £40 on the day for our hair, £50 trial and £40 on the day make up for the brides - paying more for the trial is quite common as the MUA will spend a lot more time figuring out what style you want and best products etc (these prices where also very kindly mates rates). Bridesmaids (all 5 of them) are doing there own hair but are £40 each for make up. so all in all £520.00 my advice would be shop around and don't be afraid to ask for a discount on things. It maybe slightly vulgar at times however if you don't ask you wont get!!! If your scared to ask face to face do it via email - you'll be surprised the discounts you can get just by being a little bit cheeky Smiley smile

    Good luck

Doing my own make up, but have spent ~£40 on new MAC stuff.

I paid £150 for hair for me, 2 bridesmaids + mum. And £180 for make-up for the same. I had a trial included for the make-up. For the hair I actually had 3 trials but they were all done at my usual appointments, all included.

My MUA is charging £25 for the trial and £45 for the day so only £70 in total...but this was about normal for MUAs this way, the most expensive one I found was £110 for trial and on the day!

Hair I'm afraid my cousin is doing for me so only costing me the price of some grips and super strength hairspray!

I am doing my own makeup, I went on a make up course last year to learn some tips although saying that I will prob spend about £100 on some new stuff but figure I then get to keep it. My hair, my normal hairdresser is doing it im giving her about £70 to do me 3 adults and 2 kids and possible fluff up my mums hair!. Im inviting her to the wedding also (its 2 hours away from us) and she is also staying the night before with us for free at the lodge we are staying in.

My hair and make-up is costing £50 per person (£35 if just hair as one bridesmaid doesn't want her make-up done) plus £25 each for a trial.

My hair was £32 for the trial and meant to be the same on the day, but the hairdresser left and I managed to track her down :stalker: as I LOVED what she did with my hair, and now she is coming to my parents' house to do it (they happen to live in the same village) and only charging £25 (as no fee going to the salon).

Make-up wise, I'm doing my own BUT I have totally bought an entire new set of make up (MAC) and brushes, plus paid for a trial and make up lesson - but then the costs of those were deducted from the make up I bought so were essentially 'free'. I reckon I've spend about £120 on make up, but I've been using it since and will continue to use it post-wedding so I think I've got a great deal!
