How much should we expect to pay for a really good wedding band??

Fireflies, 6 November, 2012 at 13:43 Posted on Planning 0 8

As the title says - we've been given a quote of £1495 for a 3 piece band plus lead singer or a quote of £1695 for a 4 piece band plus lead singer.

It is for a Saturday in June, so peak wedding season, and in the South East.

The reviews and the performances on the website are amazing - the lead singer was once on the X Factor and he is really good so I expect that is why they are at the upper end too.

I am in two minds as I have looked at/listened to lots of wedding bands and always been quite critical of how good they are but they were all less money than this (which is why I am thinking they were cheaper!) The band I liked the most previously was £975 but that was right at the beginning of the year and they are now booked...I'm worried now that all the good bands will be gone soon also! And I would say that this band is better than them! (Btw This expensive band that I really like is fully booked for the rest of June and only has this date free as lead singer was meant to be in a wedding (as an usher!) on this date and then it got moved)

I just wonder if I can justify spending sooo much on a band...he's way more than my photographer and even my dress....

Thoughts? Oh and its for 7pm-12pm with 3 x50 min sets and recorded music/dj service in between..

Ours was £1200, 4 people, 2 x 2.5 hour sets. Were in the south west, so I think youve got an alright price there, not cheap but by no means over the top!

That sounds great, and for them to play so long! I am also in the south west & the averaged for a 4 piece band 2 x 1hr sets seems to be £900 - 1200.

Through an agent we were quoted £1200 for a fairly local band - 30 miles travelling distance. Direct with a local band who we've heard a fair few times, £600 for two sets, afternoon session and dj... And on the plus side, we've heard them live so we know what we're getting whereas with agents, you can only often just hear them on the Internet first

Thanks everyone...I think we're going to wait on the contract and some more information but most likely going to splash out and book them! Considering how little I like the sound of 'wedding bands' who are highly recommended etc and cheaper, I think it's a good decision if I like them as much as I do it's worth splashing out!!

We hired a band for 350 pounds and they were fab. Everybody commented on how brilliant they were and nearly all our guests had never seen them. One guest even said that he didnt get up and dance because he was happy sitting back and listening to them play. They played music from the 60's onwards, late 90's. They played from 7.30 until just after 11 and with a 30 minute break. Their name is Backtrack band, they are on the internet as well. The website is www.backtrack.co.uk The music on the website doesnt do them any justice to be honest, but when you see them live, they are brilliant. Everyone will get up and dance and you can guarantee that there will be music played that everyone will know, from younger relatives and friends to older friends and relatives.
