How much was your dress?

gheko, 23 August, 2011 at 11:18 Posted on Planning 0 64

Hey folks

I have been wedding dress hunting the last few weeks and it is sooooo expensive. Every dress I love is about a grand. My parents are willing to pay this. The dresses are beautiful but can this be justifed for one day? Has anyone used these sites where they make a dress (copy of one) to your size?

Thanks

When you go into a shop make sure you tell them your max budget. It may be that they are only showing you dresses that start at a grand. I told the shops my absolute top price and ideally wanted less than that and so they told me which rails to look at and which ones to avoid as they were over my price range. Some shops did only stock dresses over £1,000 so I avoided those!

Same as Kharv as we are dress twins. I did see the same dress on pre loved that i think would have fitted but it was the wrong colour. My dress alterations have been capped at £200 and i think that is how much they are going to be so you also have to remember to factor that in.

Was it worth is for one day? Yep,i love my dress so much and in all honesty i have liked the whole process of going to the dress shop for fittings etc. I might sell it but i am not sure on that yet.

£600 and it didn't need altering except the hem taken up by about an inch which cost me nothing because a seamstress friend did it for me.

My dress was reduced to £1000 plus £180 for alterations..... I had every intention when I started out that I would buy a sample in the sale and get the bargain of the century, but none of the sales dresses I saw grabbed me. I fell in love with my dress though, I have had a couple of wobbles as I havent seen my dress since the first time I tried it on but hopefully going back in a few weeks to try it on again

Mine was £600, which I was very pleased with. Would have gone higher if I'd have needed to but I loved it so much, thought why not and got myself a bargain!

I spent a ouching £1300 but I look on the bright side of my mega spend as I got £100 worth of free accessories lol! Makes me feel better anyway! It was the first one I tried on and the only one I loved so worth every penny ?

Mine is retailed at £1515 but I got it for £600. I am getting it shortned to ankle length so that will add on another couple £'s but still a bargain

Ahem... triple what i wanted to pay... but under £1000. Alterations and veil will probably add about £200 to the price Smiley sad

I am however justifying it as it feel as though its worth the extra money i've paid, where as some of the cheaper ones i tried actually felt cheap and as though they should be worth less than what they were retailing at. The one i've bought feels and looks worth every penny.

I have a bargain suggestion - until I saw and fell in love with something else entirely last week, I had set my heart on a Ronald Joyce dress (code 29632 ). http://www.adaytoremember.me.uk/images/29632.jpg

It's just under £300 and is amazing. I was considering a radical coloured dress, but it also comes in ivory or white. It's so much cheaper because it's from the bridesmaid collection. But it has the structure of a bridal gown and a puddle train with some gorgeous sparkle too.

    Just a thought...

Mine was £1490.00, though we got a bit of discount - cant mind what though!

I tried on dresses from £700 to £3500. I didnt have a budget, I just picked the one I felt was me.

Yes it may be a lot of £ for one day but to me our wedding was my perfect day & worth every single hard earned penny.

Ladies, those of you that found wonderful sale rail bargains, would I be likely to find anything in my size on those rails?

I'm a 16-18 in high street clothes, but seem to find most samples a bridal 12, i.e. 8 or 10.

    What's your experience of sizes?

(I've fallen in love with a dress that's crazily dear and am thinking of other choices)

Mine was £599 but the tiara and veil were included in the price with such a huge range of tiaras to choose from. I really wanted a cathedral veil and the shop didnt stock those so bought one seperatly elsewhere and plan to wear that in the church and the shorter one after the photos for mingling and dancing!
