How much was your dress??

sarah_Jayne1905, 3 January, 2014 at 08:08 Posted on Planning 0 60

I bought my dress 4 months ago, still waiting for it to arrive, i fell in love with it before i knew how much it was so i knew it as the right one for me regardless, it was £940 in the shop i bought it from and after some research i found it was cheaper than most places which averaged £1200-£1500

I'm sat here worrying about how much it cost and only for one day!!

Am i the only one who feels guilty for spending so much? my husband to be thinks i'm being daft, he says that knowing how fussy i am with dresses if it can put a smile on my face like the day i bought it then it's worth every penny Smiley smile

Mine was £450....but I decided I didn't want to spend more than £500-600 so I found shops that didn't go over that budget incase I fell in love with really expensive dress.

But if money wasn't an issue then I would have spent more, as long as you are happy that's all that matters Smiley smile even better that you found u got your dress cheaper. Xxx

I have budgeted £1000 for my dress, shoes and accessories. I recently started trying on dresses and found one I liked for £725 and another one I lo9ved for £450 so I have no idea how much it's going to cost. It's the only tim you will ever spend that much on one outfit and you will likely look back at pictures for years and show all your family and children so it's important to look and feel your best! I think as long as you can afford it and you've not gotten into debt over it then why not!

I'm hoping my dress is classic/nice enough for one of my daughters to maybe use one day, if not i could always wear mine to be buried in too!! We've not got into debt buying it or by the wedding in general we're saving every month to pay for it, just my dress, shoes veil and accessories account for almost £1200 of our £7,000 budget, again that said we're spending the majority of the budget on things that benefit us directly, rather than everyone else!!

Mine is £200. I fell in love with one that ws £900 but the smallest size it could be ordered in was an 8 and i'm size 4 and 5 foot tall so the alterations would have taken it to around £1500. I decided to have a custom made dress which I had designed based on (but not a copy) of the one I tried on. It didn't make sense to spent all that money when I could get it for £200.

Mine was £2400 and my budget was £1500. I found it and fell in love though.

I do feel a bit guilty but my Mum convinced me to go for it and she is the sensible one so I feel a bit better with her approval.

I'd budgeted £1000, and mine was £800 (sample sale, perfect condition and rrp is £1350!). I couldn't justify spending more than that to be honest. My best friend's cost £1800 ? but her mum paid for hers whereas me/my h2b are paying for mine.

Haven't found it yet, but I'm looking at £100 max, it's not going to be a 'wedding dress' probably more like a bridesmaid dress. I refuse to spend much more than that!

Mine was £700ish. Then with veil, a sparkly belt, shoes and tiara it was £1k which was what I budgeted. I know it sounds a lot for one day but you only get one wedding day after all, and it will be worth it.

Mine was £989, and that is without alterations. It does seem a ridiculous amount to spend on a dress you only get to wear on one day....but it's worth it to feel beautiful on the wedding day!

I have said I'm tempted to wear my dress to go food shopping after the wedding, just to get more wear out of it, but I'm not sure I'm really brave enough to go ahead with that!

I budgeted £1000 and didn't check the price before trying mine on. It was £1400 and worth every penny. The accessories were on top of that too. Did I feel guilty? No, I love my dress and still do. Looking at prices elsewhere for your dress, you got a bargain. It may be 1 day, but the dress helped me feel amazing as I knew it was so beautiful and really suited me.

Do you have a photo? X

My dress alone was £1200, without accessories and alterations.

I didnt really have a budget as i didnt have a clue how much dresses cost, i tried to go cheaper but nothing compared to my dress so i just had to swallow it and be so thankful my mum paid half.

I am looking to sell it on after if i can, i would love someone else to be able to afford their dream dress if their budget is less and i have only had very few alteration - none off the length just shoulders. We shall see.

How much do alterations cost on average? I think I will need very few if any at all, maybe taking up ever so slightly at the hem, and taking in around the bum area (this is new for me! I'm a pear so usually need stuff taken in around the bust/waist but they fit my bum perfect haha).

My veil was £36 with Pink Margaret - bargain! Haven't seen it yet, but I couldn't justify paying the prices in the store, £100+!

Interesting thread. I have no idea how much the one I have seen (and fell in love with) will cost, but if I feel fantastic in it, it wont matter, i'll pay it. I know what I am like generally for dresses (and shoes for that matter), if I like it , feel good in it and more importantly can afford it I will pay it whether it be £5 or £2,000 (I'm drawing a line at the £2,000 though).

I was told to put aside £200 for alterations. However when i had my first fit i only needed an inch taken off each shoulder and and inch taken off the undershirt so when i moved you could see the lace properly at the bottom. In total its has cost me ..... £55! I was delighted with that.

My mum was really happy and kept smiling at me and nodding .... when we left she said "i cant believe its only cost you £5 for the alterations" ha.

Mine was £1600. The lady chucked in my veil and alterations up to £500.

Shoes were £75 down from £300.

It is a lot of money, it was recently put in the sale and only reduced by £100 so the quality must be worth it.

Planning to turn it in to a baby bassinet after the wedding (fingers crossed) so I'll have it for years to come and use it every day.

If you've found a style you like, definitely shop around because prices really do differ from shop to shop.

Oh bummer i hadn't thought about alterations!! i know i don't need anything off the hem but it will need altering because I've lost weight and still plan to loose a bit more, i told them my plan but they insisted i buy it in my then size just in case i didn't loose any weight, it's certainly easier to take away rather than add!!

My veil was £165, Shoes £59 and they let me have the tiara for free, all in all it was still less that hubby-to-be budgeted, and i really do love it and can't wait to wear it!! Smiley laugh

    Here's a picture Smiley smile

Gorgeous dress OP, I haven't even started looking at dresses properly yet, just internet searches, and certainly haven't agreed a budget but I envisage spending no more than £1000 on everything including shoes, accessories etc. Some replies in this thread have been very reassuring as I was starting to think £1000 was unrealistic.

£1800, which is an obscene amount of money, but it is bespoke. No veil, shoes cost £100, unsure on accessories yet. It has a built in bodice which (I am assured) will mean I don't need a bra.

Hoping for mine to come in under £900; getting the quotes this week from the factory, so we'll see! Even at £1k, it will be a third of the price of getting something similar here.

    I hope.

Mine was £750, I had budgeted £1000. It is crazy for one item of clothing as normally I buy cheap clothes, but its your wedding day and the pictures are going to last for the rest of your life! Plus I'm probably going to sell it after the wedding. Although I love it, I know that it will sit in a box for the rest of its life and there really is no point. I'd rather sell it and spend the money on something nice for the house!

Also, my OH and I budgeted depending on priority. If you can get everything else you want for bargains then there isn't any need to worry, you will look amazing and it will be worth it.

Should be getting a call soon about my dress - ordered it in August and they said Jan-Feb it will arrive! Smiley smile

I tried around 8 dresses on and set a budget of £1000 max, as I wasn't told the price until after I had tried them on I had no idea my second favourite was £1525, however the one I fell in love with and have ordered ended up being the cheapest I tried on at £600!

My dress is £1200, I am waiting for it to arrive in April before I buy other things to go with it. I don't feel guilty at the price as its the most expensive dress we will ever buy for the best day of our lives x

It was £260, unique and bloody beautiful. More money doesn't equal better dress. It was worth a lot more but I was in the right place at the right time.

As an aside though, is it ok to ask how much dresses cost? Is that the same as asking how much your er cost or how much you earn? Does this subject offend people?

Maybe a tad impolite (for some) but offensive, no I don't think so. It's fine to have a little brag about how much you spent or the amazing bargain you bagged! Who cares!
