How rude!!!!

Charlied, 8 September, 2009 at 19:43 Posted on Planning 0 18

JUst wanted to let off steam.

I know its over a yr til our wedding but I dont see anything wrong with being oraganised. (bare with me I will try and keep it short)

Me and OH went into town today to check out suit hire prices and colours (its becoming tricky to match the colour I wanted, and was a random day off we both had together child free) and went into one shop and the man in their was sooooo rude. He wouldnt even let us properly into the shop when we told us the date of the wedding 'oh, its far too early' he said patronisingly. he made me feel rubbish and like a fool, abit like a child asking an innocent yet stupid question. He was of no help as all I wanted to know was how much to set the suit hire budget for and if I could match this colour.

Luckily the luuuurvely man in Debenhams was great and bent over backwards to help, so definitely going to get suits from there.

Has anyone had any similar experiences?

Im sorry you had a bad run in with them, we actually went in over a year and half ago and they were soo helpful with us. Did say that it was too early but to go in again now before christmas and choose what we liked and they would give us the price for this year for next.

Hope you find the ones you want! x

Well if thats how he treats his cutomers he probably won't have a shop next year! Rude rude rude man! I hate people like that.

The woman at one of the shops I went to try on dresses was like that, all she wanted to know was how much I was willing to spend on a dress. I picked out 5 dresses and only tried the first one on, the rest of them were ones that she had picked and were all over £1.5k!! I didnt find a dress but even if I had found the perfect one I wouldn't have brought it from her shop.

At least you found good old Debehams to be helpful :-)

Thanks, I think we have now. It was clearly a worthwhile visit as we have possibly changed colour scheme now. Its just horrible when someone rains on your parade, and they obviously lost my custom.

Your experience, Moonpig, has just reminded me of a similar woman to yours in a dress shop. I really dont understand them. They may be experienced but this is our once/twice time doing this so need support and help their customers. Your right though, their business wont last too long if they continue - customer service goes a long long way with me and I would rather pay a bit extra just to get it. x

Hey up Charlie D - it's your friendly stalker here! Had you worked out my user name?

Think you should name and shame the shop so I can go in and glare!

    Hope you are ok xx

That's crap! Luckily I haven't had an experience like that, and we started booking everything with 2 and half years to go. I did have a rude florist at a wedding fair who told me she would not travel 12 miles for a miniscule amount of flowers! She said it whilst looking down her nose and without knowing my budget at all!

Hey, sorry to hear of your bad experience! If he was like that to you, he's probably like that to a lot of people, and sure will lose a lot of custom! I agree and think you should name and shame!

I havn't really had the same experience as havn't been dress shopping yet, but I rang up a couple of wedding car companies and they wouldn't help...they could have atleast given me the 2010 price and advised it may be more in 2011...all I was after was quote! (that's one of the things that has put me off dress shopping) Also, I know this is abit off topic, but when I was about 34weeks pregnant I bought a baby mat/gym and my SIL to be has an attitude at the best of times but really rudely said it was too early to buy it. I think it was like "well, how old will she be when she uses that?!" - ha she used it straight away! maybe it wasnt so bad afterall and pregnancy hormones took over! Sorry to completly divert the topic! xx

Thanks for all your responses. Its good to know that most peoples experiences have been really positive.

Zippy27 - that florist was rude, rude, rude and didnt deserve your business.

And your example was not off topic mummy2hannah as its all about such important events going on in our lives and other people trying to dampen it!

AlicetheCamel - yes I know who you are now, but how could I possibly work it out?! I guess Im not hard to find! and I will name and shame.......

Hope & Company in Eastbourne - rubbish service (it also had decor on a par to 'Are you being Served?' )

    Debenhams her I come!

Thought Becky may have given you a clue - the name comes from my first name and my boobs! (humps? geddit?!)

Anyway, back to the subject - your first mistake was to go anywhere near somewhere resembling "Are you being served?" |Especially in Eastbourne, bearing in mind the average age of person here!!! But will glare accordingly when I next go past ?

It really bugs me when shops, restaurants etc act like they cannot be bothered with your custom!!! ?

I simply take my business and my money elsewhere! But I feel that you should make a point of telling the manager/owners exactly WHY you are no longer giving you their custom, after all sometimes its just lazy staff who need a good kick up the @rse!!!

In these times, when businesses are failing right, left and centre I have noticed a big difference between the businesses that are willing to go the extra mile for your money so dont settle for anything less than 1st class customer service. At the end of the day manners cost nothing!!!!

Please do a "pretty woman" and go back into that shop and tell them exactly what a big mistake they have made "big mistake, huge!.....I have to shop" (flashing umpteem designer bags and credit cards ahoy).. sorry i have seen that film TOO many times!! ️?️

I love it, love it, love it. Do you think if I went into some design shops they would give me some fancy bags, then I could go fill them up with primark clothes, it would have the same affect?

If you do go back into the shop. Tell the nice man that some suit hire shops have confirmed 'deposit paid' bookings all the way upto October 2010!

I get very frustrated with poor service and I really cannot understand how some business's survive ? In the current climate you would think people would fall over themselves to try and secure future custom.

BTW I have a customer who has been shopping in my shop since I was a kid and he is a little old fella. He is always wearing filthy jeans and really old jumpers. He drives an old green toyota pick up truck thing, that is falling apart. He comes twice a year and has 2 hand made suits (both with pure white lining). I always he assumed he is an eccentric who spent all his spare money on suits and saved up all year for them. Until I was contacted by a reporter who was doing an article on the top ten richest people in the South East, he was number 3. Worth nearly 200 million,

You just never know do you.

I don't think he is famous as such. He appears in the Times rich list every year. But if you ever look at that thing 50% of people in there you have never heard of.! We are quite lucky at my little business we ha a few customers who are high profile and some who are millionares but most of these guys have been coming to the shop since before they were wealthy and come to us because we don't treat them with kid gloves but we do show some respect. So no names I am afraid.

Loving the pretty woman story Bespoke! You really can never ever tell. I know two millionaires and two other incredibly wealthy but not quite millionnaires and you would never ever look at them and think 'aye, hes dead rich' ... one guy, common as muck, incredibly dirty mind, SOH in the gutter but he owns a large piece of Barbados where he is building a new resort worth millions that many footballers and such like have bought into, and he owns 800 properties in the UK. Totally self made millionnaire - started with nothing. And I bet he's been scowled at by a few restaurant owners for being a bit loud and racey! If only they knew... I had no clue the first time I met him. Wasn't til afterwards my dad said 'you know what x is worth don't you'?...

being a HIB I pride myself on excellent customer service and its one thing my clients always comment on - and the extra little touches that make a big difference. doesn't have to be a showy big thing, but sometimes the smallest of things that i don't even give a second thought to as being out of the ordinary can make a massive difference to a paying customer. I don't understand any business being like that with customers. Even at wedding fayres you see/overhear the way some of the exhibitors speak to potential customers and its jaw dropping! And I've actually gained customers for what I do by them coming to me after having other companies turn them away because they want to book too far in advance or want their invitations 'too early'... wtf??! Who are we to tell a couple when they can have their invitations??!! I think businesses like that are obviously thinking just a little too much of themselves!

    <shakes head>

I'm always happy to talk to brides about their weddings and their plans, even if they just want to pick up some literature...there is a good chance when they come to the decision making stage they'll still be familiar with my business and I'll be in the running.

I must admit if I'm at a wedding fair and there are two couples around my stand and one couples wedding is in 6-12 months and the other is in 12-24 months then I'd rather spend the time with the couple who are nearer the decision making stage, but I'd still bend over backwards to help both!

Charlie, I have to say I did experience the same sort of attitude with some suppliers last year when I told them our wedding wasn't until 2010, guess that's just the way some are but thankfully not all were like that and I got everything booked ?...just meant that those ignorant people were loosing out on business!
