How to change your name...

Carol1, 22 March, 2010 at 16:21 Posted on Planning 0 4

Hi girls,

I'm getting married in 2 months and 26 days! I will be changing my name but I don't know how to do it, I will do some internet searching, but I just wondered if any of you have started to think about that yet, and how soon it needs to be done?

You need to make a list of places your a member of, have a bill with, etc and then once you're married ring them to let them know.

Here's a starter list for you:

    Bank
House - Mortgage / Letting Agents
    Council Tax
    Pension
    Mobile
House bills - gas / elec / water / TV lisense, etc
    Insurance - car / house
    Gym
    Work
    Passport
    Driving Lisense
    Membership Cards

Thanks Geordie Barbie! Do you mean I don't need to do anything until I'm actually married?

Don't believe so. Unless you want your passport in your new name to travel on you honeymoon? That's all I've done.

I'm not doing anything until I return from honeymoon far too many people to inform to worry about the hassle before.

Carol you need your marriage certificate as proof of your new name so apart from your passport you can't change anything. I still haven't changed everything and I'm married 10 months.

You need to remember to change your name with your payroll dept, pension scheme, national insurance etc (sorry can't remember what was mentioned previously in the thread).

I found changing my paypal name the hardest believe it or not as you need to scan documents in and send in a secure way to paypal but my files were all over the size limit so it has taken me ages to get access to a fax machine.

I haven't and won't be changing my passport as I only renewed it 3 years ago and it costs £80ish for a name change! I'd prefer £80 in my pocket instead of theirs for the time being.
