how to make this not look bridesmaidy for another wedding *flash*

knitting_vixen, 10 June, 2011 at 15:03 Posted on Planning 0 20

I was a BM at my SIL (to be)'s wedding a couple of weeks ago.

The dress she chose for us was gorgeous and I want to wear it again to another wedding. I am going to have it altered to be knee-length so it is more of a cocktail dress (I already asked my SIL and she is over the moon I will be getting more use out of it).

I have an ivory pashmina, but I am worried if I wear this I will look bridesmaidy- WDYT?

I will flash it now for a short time only... (will remove before I go home)...

Could you add some sort of statement belt? Whether chunky or blingy? SOme statement jewellery would also work. Nice frock though, colour really suits you.

    Oh I like!

I def think some funky jewellery as opposed to 'delicate' jewellery will stop it looking like a bridemaid dress.

    Its a really beautiful colour.

You mean like a long necklace?

Stunning colour! I don't think it'd be too bridesmaidy if you have it shortened. I tend to favour a particular style of dress as a wedding guest and most of my dresses could probably be considered bridesmaidy.

Why not go for a cropped cardigan/shrug instead of a pashmina?

yep I think you're right- I will seek out a shrug this weekend...

what colour shrug do you think? It's a beautiful colour but the only shades that I think would work would be cream, white or silver?

I think the neckline is too nice to wear a long necklace - more a shorter, chunkier one?

You could go for a long necklace or something more chunky. Maybe some sort of corsage type embellishment? The world is your lobster!

If it were me I'd go for a statement silver or beaded necklace, some killer shoes and coloured nails. You could always add a little jacket and a belt instead of a pashmina too.

And maybe wear your hair down.

P.S This is the first time I have 'seen' you KV and not what I expected at all!!!

I agree, I was looking at some in Accessorize but I kept on thinking they would "ruin" the dress... the necklace I wore on the day was short and chunky... I think if I teamed it up with a shrug and less bridesmaidy hair I would be OK actually...

I think the hair has a lot to do with it thinking about it.

I think a pashmina would be fine. But maybe go for bright clashing colours, bright shoes, chunky necklace, and try to avoid a bridesmaids-ey hair style! I think creams and silvers would make it too bridesmaid-like. Big bangles etc like someone else said would look good!

I agree - jacket or shrug rather than a pashmina in a contrasting colour would be great. And a chunky necklace.

Either of those colours would be fine, I think. Depends on what shoes you've got. I've got a dress in a similar colour that I wore to a family wedding a couple of years ago. I wore a cream shrug and it looked fine. Was just trying to find a photo, but the weather was so nice I took it off for most of the day!
