How to plan a small, affordable wedding.

jones34, 8 October, 2009 at 05:29 Posted on Planning 0 5

My fiance and I want to get married in July, however, his family lives across the country and I am not very close with my family. I know there is the option of a destination wedding, but we are just starting out and we have a young son. Are there any ideas that anyone could suggests other than going to the court house? We would still really like a special day, just a little less traditional. Any advice?

If you go onto your county council website, or use google if not, they should have a list of all the licenced venues for conducting weddings in your area. Some of these can be quite cheap without being a registry office if you dont want the ceremony there. You could maybe then follow it up with a wedding reception at home if you have space? One of the best weddings Ive been to was done is someones garden. Or maybe a friend or family members garden? Or a village hall as these are often very little to hire and you can then decorate it yourself. Or maybe hire a big house for a weekend/week somewhere in between both families? Or just somewhere pretty like the lake district or wales, etc and get married close to that? Sorry - Im rambling now, but theres SO many options. Do you have in you mind anywhere you would like to get married or a style/theme?

You could look into having a 'holiday inn' wedding I think they do a full day package for £999.

Worth looking into here is a link with some details http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-1176888/Holiday-Inn-offers-credit-crunch-wedding-package-just-999.html

    Good Luck x

    Hi... congratulations

I can only suggested what others have suggested... a hotel wedding that does everything can sometime be the cheapest option... also during the week is the cheapest time.

I recently had a couple that family were at both ends of the country... they chose a venue in the middle so it was fair for everyone to travel.

Hope that helps... good luck xx

    Hi,

We are getting married on New Years Eve this year. Only decided about 3 weeks ago. Booked the registry office £160. Bought a dress from Dessy £195 (its a bridesmaid dress but looks like a wedding dress) bought our rings £184. Bought outfits for 3 kids from ebay £16.99 for suits for boys and £35 for girls dress. All thats left is my bouquet £25 and a suit for groom to hire. We are having my uncle taking photos and my brother is videoing the ceremony. We are then going for a meal in a local restaurant with about 40 close friends and family who are happy to buy their own meal (we've asked for no presents) then we are going for a few drinks in York on the evening ending up outside the minster at midnight. All in all this has cost less than £1000 (quite a lot less) and I cant wait. I'm not stressing about details and just going to enjoy every minute of it

There are no do-overs, so it is important for you to feel comfortable with the wedding you plan. So, wait until you can afford the one you want if you aren't.

However, your wedding can be very special even if it is a small, private affair. Perhaps consider hosting your wedding in a home. Most anyone can become authorized to perform your wedding. So, a friend or family member could marry you. Then all of you could have a nice party afterward. Of course you two would have to provide the entire party. This could be very simple though.

Sometimes these simple affairs can be sweet and memorable.
