How whereyou proposed to?

FIONATS73, 22 August, 2008 at 15:29 Posted on Planning 0 41

Should be working but addicted to hitched need to attend a hitched addicted meeting ?

Anyway to kill time before home time, how where you proposed to I hope romatically?

Mine was through a text message! I believe he had planned it for some time, and I was going to Italy on the Monday till the Wednesday. On the Saturday we went into town in the morning got jobs done and he was looking at new phone anyway could not decide came home. I started to finish my cleaning with being away and he sat and watched TV (p*ssed me off) Then he came upstairs and said lets go back down to town and we can look at the phones again I said no to busy. So the evening was interesting, to say the least a few other things happened and we did not speak the next day till late on. Whilst I was away he text me the following:

Been thinking. I think that if we have a bbq on august bank holiday we should get engaged on the same day and invite everyone. x

This I believe was to get me back for not going back to town on the Saturday as he was going to take me to a jewlllers on say pick one!

But I ensured the argos catalogue was browsed on may return

x

I wasn't proposed to, I proposed. On Feb 29th, standing in our kitchen making chicken curry. I hadn't planned it but thought it might be funny to joke around a bit so said, "It's the 29th today" H2B said, "Yeah and..." I said, "So, will you, will you?" He said, "Are you serious". I thought, let's just see what happens and said, "Yes, will you marry me." He gave me a big hug and said, "Yes" and I nearly fainted.

Really should have put more effort in - but the chicken curry was very nice.

My OH had planned for his sister to drop me off at a castle where we both first realised we liked each other 2 years previously, and he was there on his own, around 5ish in January so it was starting to get dark and we were looking over a river and he had a rose and everything and proposed.

I was bricking it walking into the castle gardens because I knew from that point what he was going to do. But it was very romantic.

I did know that he had my ring (he had bought it when he went on holiday and he was rubbish at hiding that he had it!!) but I never would of guessed that he would propose like that.

He then had a meal planned with all his family and it was just perfect.

My H2B took me to Paris in November 2005 for my brithday present. We was there for 1 night. So during the day we walked round Paris went into a few bars and in the evening went onto the Eifel Tower which was all lit up - it looked amazing totally different at night - something definatly worth seeing!

We was standing on the middle level and looking out - i said its so romantic we should get married...go on marry me...go on and he said no whilst reaching to his coat pocket - pulled out my ring and said - you marry me!!! aaaggghhhh I cried my eyes out and tried calling all my family but becuase we were so high I couldnt get any reception!!! ?

Bless him his such a sweetie!!!! x

Mine was a down on one knee by the sofa

apparently he was going to wait til next day (we were going to cornwall) as he wanted me to find the ring in the rock pool but, being impatient and nervous made him just come out with it.

I thought he was joking and expected a pair of earrings in the box!

So nice to see some romantic men, the romance was taken out of my h2b in previous relationships. Only ever had 2 lots of flowers 1 to prove a point he loved me and the 2nd after I came out of hospital as everyone else had bought them me lol!

But he gives me everything I could want and wish for so don't complain only to put romance back into him.

Mine was while we were on holiday in Ireland, we went to dunmore east and were overlooking the sea walking along the cliff, I was slightly in frount of him and he shouted me, I turned round and he was on one knee with a ring in his hand, he had it specially made and was really worried I wouldn't like it, How could you not love something that had had that much thought? Anyway of course I said yes. He had been carrying it in his pocket all week waiting for a nice day. ?

Awww your stories are all so cute :-) I love the chicken curry one!!

My story is, he had this whole day planned and he was going to buy a ring and propose with it. Anyway I ended up getting taken to A&E 2 weeks before .

While we were in A&E, he wanted to take my mind off things so he said "Do you want to know a secret?" and I said (probably stroppily as I wasn't feeling well) "Go On then". And he whispered "Today I was going to buy your engagement ring, will you marry me....!" and I said yes and cried!

See, A&E is romantic after all. And now I have a gorgeous, gorgeous ring - and a lovely fiance

I was in the Dominican Republic ... so you'd think sunsets, white sand, turquoise sea ..... I was asked by Mr SP, whilst he was laying on the bed just before going to sleep, wearing really unfetching grey undies 'shall we do it then' - producing a ring box from under the bed. It wasn't a proposal of marriage, it was a proposal of engagement - the wedding proposal came 7yrs later in Kenya .....

The most impressive thing was that he managed to smuggle the ring out to the Dom Rep when I was at that time Ms A Nal about packing and repacking and repacking and repacking .....

The fact he'd gone a bought a ring was fairly impressive tho'!! But hardly a romantic proposal of engagement!

I actually had to think about it! I got the shock of my life when I saw the ring I designed in the box, I had NO idea he had commissioned it and I thought it was earrings! Within 5 mins, (9.05am) I'm crying, drinking a beer and smoking a roll-up to calm down before foning my parents...classy!!

I did eventually open my presents.. they werent as good! LOL!

Ours was on the cards for a while....original plan was to get my ring last september in Santorini, but couldn't find one we both liked that wasn't so expensive!!

Anyway, we had a few problems when we got back with work, and each other, so just before christmas was a make or break time for us. Things worked out, and he proposed on 1st March with ring in a little radley bag (I'd forbid him from his original plan....christmas day wrapped round a sprout!!)

I proposed to him. not romantic at all.

we'd just had a massive row about him keeping things from me, and not opening up to me. he broke down and started crying. then all this stuff about his youth came spilling out, that he'd never told anyone.

he kept saying how he knew he was pushing me away and how worried he was that he was going to lose me, so me being a true romantic said. "no you silly bleeder, i love you don't i. would i want to marry you if i didn't?"

he looked up shocked at me mentioning marriage, as i've always said i didnt want to. then just said "eh, you wanna marry me?" so then i asked him. he said yeah.

my litle sis asker her fella on 29th feb. she made him breakfast in bed, really nice. she got down on one knee and everything. he just came out with "i dunno. i'll think about it." she was crushed, but he did say yes in the end.

We got engaged on our anniversary from when we had our first date. We had tickets to go and see Deacon Blue at the Playhouse in Edinburgh and we were planning on going for dinner first. My h2b had said a few weeks before that we should make a day of it and go to Edin early and that he'd really like to go to Edinburgh Castle. I can actually see the castle from my work, so I wasn't quite so keen to go, but I hadn't been since I was little so thought it would be nice.

When we got to the castle, my h2b was totally powering along through the castle, every room we went into, I was stopping to look around and everytime I turned round he had rushed onto the next room! I was starting to get grumpy with him and I was just saying, 'what was the point in paying x amount to get into here if your not even going to look at anything!' he just ignored me and went into the next room which had a guard outside, when I walked in after him there was a big display case in the middle of the room and when I walked round he was on one knee at the other side. He wanted to propose infront of the stone of destiny, thats why he had been rushing along trying to find it. He had planned it months before and had a ring made for me ?

The funny thing was, your not allowed to take pictures in the room (thats why there is a guard) and the security man couldn't see us and he must have thought we were trying to take a picture and he walked around just as I was saying yes. He was so nice, he was like, 'oh sorry, im sorry...congratulations!' Bless!

Then we went for dinner and to the concert, it was an awesome day.

(just realised this is a lengthy post!Sorry ladies!)

We got engaged on my birthday last year. I knew that he had something planned and had a sneaky feeling it would be a proposal but kept telling myself "no it won't be that." Had been told we were going away for the night but had to go somewhere before we checked in. We drove to Luss on the edge of Loch Lomond which is one of the places we went to on our first date. Got out and started walking along towards the church, at that point I knew what was going to happen. We stopped at the spot where we had our first ever kiss and he got down on one knee and took out the ring. I kept telling him to get up, but he manged to ask me first. Of course I said yes, then we walked back to the car and he took me to Cameron House for the night. It was fab, sheer luxury! Only thing is its my 30th this year and he's wondering how to top last year's birthday lol

In a fab hotel room overlooking leicester square in london. i asked him if my top needed to be ironed before going out for a meal, he told me to come by the window so he could take a proper look - instead he got down on one knee, pulled the ring out of his shoe and asked if i would marry him please? (he has manners, my h2b!)

needless to say i forgot about ironing my top.

We were at a friends house and he grabbed me and said 'Can I talk to you outside?'. We went into the back garden and there he told me how much loved me and asked me to marry him. I said yes.........fast forward 6 years and it's my birthday. He bought me a new jacket and asked me to try it on. As I put my hand in the pocket I found my engagement ring, the one I had always said I wanted (see he does listen lol). So 4 years later (10 in all) we set a date and finally we are getting married. WOO HOO.

Awwww there are some lovely stories here!!

Mine isn't that romantic!! We had been going out for 2 and a half years and had planned to get engaged at Christmas. We'd been ring shopping - he took me to some jewellers and asked me to pick a few rings out that I liked - he would return later to buy one of them for me!!

So its November and he's over visiting (we had a long distance relationship back then) with his mother (he was 18 and I was 16) he'd already ask my father for his permission. So I've just came in from a driving lesson and we're getting organised to go out - my mum asked me to go into her room to get something - I went into her room only to discover said item was on top of the wardrope and I can't reach it - Stephen could because he's over 6ft. I shouted him up into the room and he came in and lifted the thing down (I can't remember what it was) then quickly left the room. I followed him out to find him down on one knee with the ring in hand and asked me to marry him!

Needless to say our mothers were down stairs listening in crying their hearts outs!!

We got engaged in 2002 so its only taken 6 years to get to the wedding, thats in 2 weeks!

Sorry its been a long one!!

    Luv Victoria

    xx

Mine was not romantic at all, but so out of the blue I was not worried about the lack of romance.....we were sat in our office at home on Sunday 27th Jan 2008 in the morning, sorting out the paperwork , I was pottering and messing around on fb and Jer was sorting out his work stuff, a normal event in our house ..... when he just out of the blue asked me to marry him.... well i was so shocked i nearly fell off my chair ( we have been together 5 yrs and I never thought he would ask me , we have been living together nearly 4 yrs) ... I couldnt answer as for once I was lost for words , he started to panic then as I didnt answer him and said ok if you dont want too lol, bless him, I eventually managed to speak and of course said yes...... to me that was more real ... and exciting , we even went into town 2 hrs later ring shopping lol.

He bought me a gorgeous 18 ct white gold princess cut diamond ring.... we celebrated with a bottle of champagne after visiting family with the news as I was on such a high and then I spent the rest of the day screaming down the phone to everyone on my phone list lol.

Just like you - i'm totally addicted to hitched - but this is the first time i have written a post. My proposal was so perfect i just felt i needed to share it... My HTB told me his work hd a deal with travel inn and we could get a room for 99p for the night. Miss gullible here toatally fell for it and was just up for a night out in Glasgow. Being a travel inn felt no need to make a massive effort - jeans and skechers (which i still cringe about to this day). When we arrived (with no travel inn in sight) a nice man in a kilt came to carry my bags for me (still no idea). It appeared he had booked us in to the top suite at 'One Devonshire Gardens' (still no idea). Another man in a kilt took us to our room where music was playing, candles were lit and champagne ws on ice (still no idea - just thought what a lovely surprise). It wasn't until he told me to sit down and he was shaking - he handed me a present and a box - i kind of knew then!!!! The present was a wedding mgzine for me to read in our roll top bath and in the box was a love heart 'will you'... I was completely taken aback as i had absolutely no idea... We had a fab night and of course i said yes!!! Getting married April next year x

I knew it was coming, mainly because we talked about it so much but with my husband he won't do anything until he is exactly ready. It is anoying as hell but I do things as soon as I can so together we seem to get it right! hehehe.

We were in Edinburgh, I worked at the British Council at the time and attended our annual conference up there, but Matt came with me to keep me company. We'd already been and chosen the ring but that was the last I knew. Anyway, while I was attending a workshop on tranational education it appears my h was out in Edinburgh desperately trying to find the ring we had chosen. He found it and bought it secretly. That night I was supposed to be going back to the hotel and spending a romantic evening in Edinburgh while we could, it was December and so beautiful! But I had to go to the Gala Dinner instead. My H was very understanding. It wasn't until a few weeks later I learnt that he was going to propose in the ice skating rink out in the cold in the moonlight after a romantic dinner. I was heartbroken!! But how he did do it was perfect...

It was the day before Xmas Eve and I was fast asleep in bed. When I woke up, he asked me three questions... Do you love me? I replied Yes. Do you want to spend forever with me? I replied Yes. Will you marry me? Of course I replied Yes. He put the ring on my finger and I burst into tears. We were seeing our parents on Xmas Eve and Xmas Day so decided not to tell anybody until then. My father in law cried and said it was the best Xmas present ever! My mum and Dad knew... they had brought a bottle of champagne and a card just in case! hehehe.

We were in South Africa, it was the last night of our Safari, and I had wandered out in front of the room we had, overlooking the bush with the sound of the animals, I thought with the pitch black sky with the stars it was so fantastic. H2B came out behind me and wrapped his arms around me from behind. He asked if I was happy, I said yes, he asked if I would come like to come back, I said yes, to which he said, "how would you like to come back as Mrs H2B" as I looked down he had opened a box with a gorgeos ring in, as I was so shocked, and I had had quite a few glasses of wine, I started to giggle with excitement, I then spun around and nearly knocked him flying into the pool. I was so very very happy, and was just giggling and jumping up and down. I still am sooooo very happy and cant believe how lucky I am to be marrying the most perfect man in the whole world, who proposed in the most wonderful way.

Awww all the stories on here are so lovely!

I'd jokingly been looking at rings and dropping hints to my H for a few weeks, but I didn't think he'd taken any notice! Then on a Bank Holiday weekend we'd gone for the day to Whitby. We'd had a good wander (and fish and chips!) and then walked back up the 199 steps to the church on the cliff. He made me walk through the graveyard to an isolated bench and sat there for ages. I was a bit fed up because I wanted to go home, but he kept saying "wait a bit longer". Turns out he was waiting for everyone to go away, because when they did he got down on one knee and asked me to make him the happiest "bloke" alive. (He never uses the word bloke, so it sounded really odd, and has been the cause of much teasing over the years!). He had the ring I really wanted too! Whitby was one of the first places we ever went to together, and we both had photos of each other there by our beds!

When we went to tell the in-laws the next day we got invited to lunch there and then (they are never that spontanepous usually!) I think it meant they were pleased!

We had been talking about getting married from not long after we got together (we knew it was meant to be). At the end of February half term we took h2b's daughter home (she was living in Taunton at the time). We decided to go and have a look round Taunton, and the subject of marriage came up again. He said he didnt know what ring I would want (I had told him I wanted to be proposed to with a ring, as I had been engaged before and had had to choose my own that time). We went round all the chain jewellers and I didnt really see anything special, and then we were looking in the window of an independent jeweller and he spotted a ring, and said "I bet thats the sort you like", and he was right, it was spot on. He took a photo of it on his phone, and then we went back to the car. I told him he might have a hard job finding a similar one back in Cambridgeshire but that I didnt mind having a different one.

4 weeks later we went snowboarding in Tignes, France. All the girls at work said he would propose but I was quite certain he was waiting for my birthday in May. Mid week I was knackered from being so unfit so we decided to have a day off and go to the top of the highest peak in the resort and look at the views. We were walking around and it ws windy and cold. He asked if I wanted my fleece, and he bent down to get it out of his rucksack, while he was down he said "you know you love me? Will you marry me?", I asked if he was serious, and when I looked down he was holding the ring from Taunton. Turns out he had emailed them the photo and done the whole transaction by phone/post. He had hidden the ring under the passenger seat in his car and I had been sitting on it for a week!

H2B had asked a few times when drunk and every time I said that if he could remember the conversation in the morning then the answer was yes... in the end I got a friend to make a jigsaw puzzle of a photo of the two of us on holiday with 'will you marry me' printed on it. I hid the pieces round the house and sent him on a treasure hunt! Turns out he had remembered all the drunken proposals but had been too shy to say anything!
