Howdy there hitchers

cherrybloom, 30 November, 2012 at 19:47 Posted on Planning 0 17

Let me introduce myself, I have been lurking for a bit trying to get my wedding planning mojo on and I have realised that with less than a year, I better get my tidy A££ into gear. I met my OH a good few years back in a bar in london, he proposed 14months ago on my birthday and I must say I was over the moon, although we had spoken about it the last few years, it was a lurvely surprise. Soooo the reason it has taken a long time to get myself going is because we both wanted to buy a house before we spent any cash on a big big party where we get super dressed up for all the family to see us formally commit to each other, trying to be sensible et al, anyway as we are finding it hard to find a house we like on the market we have decided to go ahead and do the deed.

So with less than 10 months to go I:-

I can't find a venue I like, any venue I kind of like seems to want £9k upwards and a kidney which I don't think I should have to pay if I don't LUUURRVVVEE it! I've been looking for months..trying to keep the faith otherwise it may be Gretna green[:'(]

I've started to look at dresses but they are all merging into one and they don't fit my bootiliciousness well the shop ones anyway..

I have found bridemaid dresses but they are all in the US!!

Geez whoever said wedding planning was easy huh!! any way HELLO!!

I apologie now for the bad grammar and spelling

anyway just a quick intro to say hi as I felt a little rude reading all of the useful posts and not saying hi ?

    Hello and welcome to H!

Don't panic yet! You'll find a lovely venue, or if not maybe you could find a plainer one and then decorate it amazingly? BM dresses-wise, maybe you could find a dress maker to design something similar to what you've seen, or get your BMs to try some on and you'll love something else?

    Welcome!

Venue and BM dresses were big headaches of mine too - don't worry, you'll find them.

None of the shop dresses fitted me either but when it's delivered in your size it's a whole different ballgame. I tried not to look at the gap at the back and focussed on the front Smiley smile

    Hey! Welcome!

You'll definitely find somewhere! Whereabouts in the UK are you? What about getting married abroad? MIL is getting married in Cyprus for a fraction of the cost of our wedding (and ours isn't that much really).

I'm trying to remember the lady that used to post on here that had a bridal boutique and stocked larger sizes for wedding dresses - Embrace? Was that her? Hmm...

    Hi All,

Thanks for the re-assurance guys, if I'm honest with myself when it comes to venues, its a case of I want a glass of champagne for the same price of a white wine spritizer (made with lemonade I should add)?

The dresses I'm taking in my stride, my ample girlies and Kim K derrier just ain't made for sample dresses..quite funny really coming out the dressing room with the back all out of door!!?

But I have to say this forum has helped soo much so far, its stopped me from tipping over the edge.

Hello, I had the opposite problem with dresses as I have no ass, so everything looked a bit odd. Anyway welcome to hitched. You will find the right venue in the end, you just have to keep an open mind and try not to loose the will to live.

    Hello and welcome.

Regarding venue, we just went to the local pub after a church service and had a fabulous time! Good luck in finding your perfect (or even good enough) venue.

Sadly my bottom is more Vanessa feltz than Kim K.

There were a few fishtails I couldn't get into but on the whole I got into most samples, although couldn't do them up. And when you fall in love with something that's far too small (I'm a 14 and this particular sample was an 8), you know you're onto something good.

    Hey All

Venues - I've been to Yorkshire, Northamptonshire, Cheshunt, London, Poole AND Portugal..Most of the venues just aren't worth the money, one even told me that they know its not much but it gets booked out so that is why they charge £9k and as for Portugal I loved it but in the time I was there I couldn't find a venue we would both like, well I lie I liked 2 but the man in doors didn't and since he will be there too I reckon I should take his view on board . So I am either incredibly high maintenance or cheap..which is a bit ironic. I know I'll find it but it ain't half doing my nut in?. Thing is I have family coming from Ooop north, in da middle, daaan south and NY so I want to make it something worth coming to, even though I know that's not what its all about. So expect a post about guest list carnage from me in the near future.

Dresses: I really like fish tail but the sample fish tails don't like me, according to the sale ladies the sample sizes fit around my waits "as I apparently have a small waist" but the rest doesn't, slight problem me thinks, she said I would have to go up a size then adjust it, its not a complete disaster but I can see how it can give folk a complex..Plus one said I had overflowing boobage because I had a bra on so it squeezed my tatas! Me without a bra, not good, always need a little scaffolding. And yes I have tried A-line and the big dress but they don't suit me..so no option but to replace Kim with Kylie to get in the frock, all I have to say is that its a good job I'm not emulating Nikki Minajs ( is that how you spell it) backside.

I'm just going to mention my venue because I had family coming from all over too. We paid more than £9k but we had a lot of guests so might be worth a look?

Its not to everyone's taste as its a bit gothic but I loved it.

    Helloo!

I love the way you post cherryb!

I second AC on the Pub venue idea-we have booked a pub out for our reception (in Cheshire) dinner for 50 and evening grub for 100 and some booze for just under 3 grand. It's The Windmill, Tabley if it might be of any use, can't find the link on my phone sorry.

keep us updated with your plans, we are reet nosey devils...well I am anyways!

Is there a type of venue you are looking for, as in style and I can see if I've been to any that fit the bill?

I absolutely love https://avoncroft.org.uk. Look at this Chapel....The prices are on that page and they are very reasonable. From my point of view, you get amazing photo opportunities too. Hope that helps.

Thanks for the warm welcome and advice folks,

So I know the variation in my venue locations must make you think I haven't got a clue and I am on some kind of illegal drug but there is a method behind my madness. I am originally from the north so thats why I went to Yorkshire, I live near london so that why I went for the southern options and I loved a venue in Poole so went down to take a look, as for the the Algarve I don't think much explanation is required?

Kharv - I will def take a look as you never know, thanks for that and I have to say you looked gorge in your bridal dress, you've inspired me to try on a tea length dress.

Daffodil - I'll take a look at that too.

You are all so helpful, I might start to come to you with all of my life issues!!

On postitive note I thought I would prioritise so my sister is sorting my hen, so we are looking into vegas so, that is something to look forward to!!
