Howl of frustration

*ginni of the lamp*, 10 November, 2008 at 10:29 Posted on Off Topic Posts 0 4

I have a reading week this week, a chance to catch up with a bit of study, hopefully get my Psychology essay done and revise formy week 12 tests. I sat down to get on, and quickly realised next door have the builders in. Frankly it sounds like they're sitting right next to me a they're working on the diving wall between our two houses. There's nowhere in the house (which is tiny) away from their noise and I know they're going to be in for 2 weeks.

Why did it have to be this week??

    I feel your pain ?

Have they sent you anything about the work on the party wall? AFAIK it's a legal requirement when the work they're having done is on a party wall. Perhaps you could try to get them to reschedule? <snowball's chance in hell but worth a try>

Failing that do a JK Rowling and head off to a local cafe or your library?

Gah. I agree that if it's party wall work they should have notified you beforehand.

Is there a nice cafe/tearoom nearby where you might just have to scoff slices of lovely cake whilst working?

We knew the builders were coming during November, but I didn't realise it would be reading week. Also, it's not our neighbours' fault, our landlady owns both properties and it's her who's organised the builders to come in - both properties are incredibly damp and mildewy, but because our neighbours have somewhere they can move to (her parents) theirs is being dampcoursed first.

It's actually worse than I thought. It was just hammering, but now they've started drilling too. It may have to be the library, but I have so many books, and because they're all psychology textbooks, they're massive <wimp icon>

Oops, I've just noticed I wrote 'diving wall' in my 1st post, thankfully you're all clever enough to realise I meant dividing wall, and polite enough not to mention the mistake ?

Get thee to the library! Even if you didn't have the builders in, i'm sure the library will be far less distracting. How annoying though. ?
