HRML - which car would you buy?

Hugo Brambles, 26 August, 2009 at 13:55 Posted on Off Topic Posts 0 2

If you can be bothered to respond - took me forever to post!

Sorry, I'm still on about cars, and a RAV4 in particular. Which would you go for;

An older car with less miles and a higher spec (leather, sat nav, reversing aids etc) BUT its also the old shape (which I like but am concious its the 'old shape' ). Maybe a 2005 55 reg with 30k ish miles for example.

OR would you go for the new shape and get a lesser spec car (cloth trim, just basic model so no extras) with more miles (maybe a 2006 06 car with 60k+ on the clock) but it's the new shape which appeals to the snob in me ??

I can't decide which to go for, both would be about the same price. I really like the old RAV4 shape but feel I'd be best going for the new shape as its going to look newer for longer as the old shape is already dated?

    I'd go for one with more extras, they're always easier to sell on. That's if your planning to sell it on rather than running it into the ground.

    I'd always go for an older better specced model with less miles because:

    - you're getting more for your money in the actual car e.g. leather

    - a less miles car will cost less to service etc and last longer

    - an older car may well hold more of its value as it's already lost more (presumably)

    Older model with better extras. There is only 6 months in the two you've listed anyway.
