HSBC keeps calling

NeoShoegal, 20 April, 2009 at 10:56 Posted on Off Topic Posts 0 5

For the past week we've been getting calls at about 8.15am, it's an 0800 number, they never leave a message. About an hour later they phone again, it's like clockwork! I looked up the number and it turns out it's HSBC and there are dozens of websites complaining about getting calls from this number. When calling the number back, it says "you were called by HSBC bank and there is no need for further action". Then why do they keep calling??? They've now also started calling on my mobile.

I don't think 8.15am is a reasonaly hour for a business to call a home number.

We kept getting calls from our bank at stupid times and when we finally spoke to them they asked us what our plans were for our savings and ISAs.

8.15am is far too early for a phone call from anyone I think!

Why don't you answer the call and tell them to stop?

because at the time they call, I'm still half asleep and my mind is not awake enough to answer properly. I tried calling back at a later time but then get the message that it's not urgent.

Would be worth waking yourself up just once to answer and see what they want though, no? Otherwise they'll carry on disturbing you at 8am.

The call would be from an automated system that dials customers when there is a problem with an account , it's not a random call. If after 3 attempts they can't get through on 1 number the system will opt for the next contact number.

8am - 9pm is when the call centre is open & the system will dial within these times.

If it's from a sales dept within HSBC the only way it will stop calling you is if you answer & say no thanks.

If you know that your account is in order, you can request that no contact is made via telephone & only in writing.

If you know it is HSBC, you can just call their normal number to ask why you have been called, no?

If there is a particular reason they will be able to find something, if they can't find something it will be a sales call and you can ask to have your preferences amended so you don't get sales calls
