Hunter Wellies

Rizzo, 11 October, 2011 at 08:28 Posted on Off Topic Posts 0 41

I noticed that on the 'Dear Santa...' thread that a lot of people want a pair of them for Christmas.

Excuse my ignorance (never heard of them before) but can someone explain to me what is so good about them? I thought that wellies were wellies!

    Kate Moss

Essentially they are just wellies, but designer wellies. Lately they have become fashionable as festival wear etc. They do coloured ones with are really cool. Hunter have made wellies acceptable for bad weather wear, not just for tramping round a farm. They are really good quality though, worth the money and made in Scotland - yay! Fitting in with the whole country trend look, to go with the also newly fashionalbe Barbour jackets.

I have a pair, but being a real country girl, mine have never seen a festival and are covered in s*it.

See, I'd understand if I wore them everyday on a farm, etc and they were 100% better than anything else (therefore worth the money)

I'm quite happy with my white wellies with strawberries on that I bought for £15 thank you! ?

Yup they are vay popular with townies. I live in the country so would get good use out of them, however can't get into the sodding things. My horsey friends don't rate them at all though & say they don't last as long as other wellies.

They are ever so pretty though. Joules do some nice ones too - with bows on. Anything with polka dots or bows on and I'll buy it. As some of the girls said on Saturday, I'm a marketer's dream.

Sorry, went off on a tangent again.

There are differing reports about Hunters. I have a pair that I wear for the dog walk nearly every day for about 9 months of the year. I've had them for 3 years now and they're still in excellent condition despite all that use so I would definitely recommend them.

I do have to confess that I bought kids ones for £25 though as I'm a midget. I was so impressed with mine that I bought OH some men's traditional green ones last Christmas. He wears those all the time and so far so good.

for me its not the fashion thing, they are just a better fit on my weird legs!! I have had a £12-£20 quid pair from B&Q, matalan, next, New Look over the years and they just dont sitr right, either too tight on my calves and bunch at the ankle, or tight on the foot so cant wear socks or just odd....my niece has some hunters i tried on and lo and behold they fit perfect, more so then any other of the above!! So, if id have not spent the moola on 4 pairs of wellies id have one pair that fits lol

If you're anything up to a size 5 Flow, you can get the kids ones.

I know a lot of people don't rate them - I wonder if we've just been really lucky with our pairs! I love mine - I've worn them on 6 mile dog walks and still been really comfortable.

I dont have any. I thought they were just the same as "normal" wellies but with a designer label on them.

    I do want some though.?

    Wellies for townies.

Glastonbury etc coverage makes me laugh. So many girls rocking up in their pristine Hunters.

This makes me laugh too. Mine are so muddy you can barely see the colour they originally were. I really should clean them.

Kharv, If I was going to buy a pair I'd go for the Balmorals, I think.

They're nice actually. I wish I'd gone for something more traditional - I went for powder blue because that's what colour my dog walking all-weather coat was! Of course, I've changed my coat now...

I could get those Balmoral ones in kids sizes but, unlike the others they actually look like Kids wellies: https://www.totallywellies.co.uk/ProductDescription.asp?Product=Kids%20Balmoral%20Hunter%20Wellingtons?Product=Kids%20Balmoral%20Hunter%20Wellingtons

I might go for a navy pair or classic green next: https://www.totallywellies.co.uk/ProductDescription.asp?Product=Navy%20Young%20Hunter%20Wellingtons?Product=Navy%20Young%20Hunter%20Wellingtons

I know there are much better wellies out there but not many do kids sizes - and for £25 I don't think you can go wrong. Which, I am aware, is only useful to those with small feet. Sorry.

I've had mine for years and they are still fine, I'm happy with them. I agree though they are not the best for some outdoor pursuits as after a while they are a bit weird to walk in. You are better with a pair of Duberry typle leather boots, which I believe Missus S has on her santa list!

I have calves like Geoff Capes so I can never get wellies or long boots to fit. Duo boots is the only place I've managed to get long boots and paid £180 for a standard pair of leather boots which were nothing special.

    I'm actually size 3/4 too.

I will say about the Kids Hunters, just in case, they don't go all the way up to your knee like the adult ones - they're more mid calf. And they have a little reflector on the back. Ha!

Having small feel is brilliant for trainers you're right Flow.

I find though that long boots either won't go up or they are like wearing buckets round my legs (Evans boots are HUGE). I will check out Viva! Next started doing wide fit and even they wouldn't zip up!

This is very useful as I am a size 3 - also means I could buy kids Uggs if I could wear Uggs!

I don't like them because they are fashionable, I like they 'cos they are expensive and make my MILs eyes roll.. ?. Only joking - my cousin recommended them, as she wears hers a lot around her stables (contary to what other say?).

See, if anyone turned up at stables wearing the Choo/Hunter collaborative ones I'd think they were muppets!

I always used to wear navy blue Splashers when I used to ride. It seemed to be the in thing at the time.
