Husbands fibbing...

amihohu, 4 January, 2014 at 17:43 Posted on Off Topic Posts 0 4

Does anyone else's husband talk rubbish when you are with his family (and sometimes our friends)? I mean silly little fibs really, yesterday we met up with some of his family and someone mentioned tough mudder, he then came out saying that he was planning on doing it in June, he'd never mentioned it before then! He was also comparing my phone to his cousins as we both have polka dot cases, the he starting saying how everything I have has to be polka dot including a new bag I got recently.... Erm... I don't remember this purchase haha. His aunt mention we could come and stay with her if we wanted a few days away, and he said that we might end up moving in that direction as the games industry is big there, so we could both get jobs.... there isnt a single studio where she lives lol... I'm sure my face must have just said 'wtf' because she did a bit if a double take when she looked at me haha. I don't know why he does it, but all the time he's coming out with random stuff and then looks at me to get me to nod and agree I think.. But I just feel like a bit of a wally!

H does this. It is strange behaviour, but I can imagine there is an element of social anxiety behind it (that is definitely the case with my H anyway). He only really does it in social situations where he feels uncomfortable, his mouth runs away with him because he's trying to say what he thinks people want to hear, even if it's a completely pointless lie.

Yeah I think the social thing must be it. I know he feels concious with his cousins as they are all either doctors, doing PhDs, etc etc, plus his aunt is a doctor and his uncle was knighted last year, so I guess it would be a bit intimidating! He always says he's the black sheep of the family as he works in video games... Although he's hardly unsuccessful given hes the lead of a mobile studio! It doesn't bother me really, just makes me feel a little awkward sometimes when he clearly wants me to go along with these stories and I have either no idea what he is talking about or know he is clearly fibbing!

My hubby is a bit like this. He's got High Functioning Autism so I can't really stop him doing it. I think its about social awkwardness (he has yo control a conversation sometimes) or because he's just trying to please people by saying what he thinks they want to hear.

Yup mine does this too. Never out and out lies but always an exaggeration of the truth. Sometimes it doesn't bother me, sometimes it does and I feel the need to constantly correct his over exaggeration. Which then makes me look like a nagging cow and makes him look stupid. But I can't help it when he exaggerates too far!
