Hymn and music help please!

Bells12, 2 April, 2014 at 06:35 Posted on Planning 0 4

Hi all,

I'm really struggling to decide on hymns for my wedding, so far I've got One more step along the world I go, and that's it!. I'd like something jolly and happy and need to pick something to walk down the aisle to, a second hymn and something to leave by. Any suggestions greatly received! It's a church wedding by the way, our vicar is reasonably open minded so could do some non religious within reason :-)

thanks is for any help x

    Hello!

    We are having:

Entrance - Pachelbel's Canon in D (maybe a bit cliche but it has meaning to me and my Mum!)

Hymns - Thine be the Glory (we are getting married on Easter Sunday), I The Lord of Sea and Sky, Jerusalem and Be Thou My Vision

Exit - Wedding March by Mendelsshon

Our entrance and exit music and music for during the signing etc are going to be played by a string quartet and the hymn music by the organist.

I am entering to the traditional Bridal Chorus - Wagner

The hymns we are having are Jerusalem and Lord of the Dance. As a third option we would have gone with Give me Joy in my Heart, but were told 2 was sufficient.

Music during the signing of the registrar, Ave Maria.

And for exit, The Wedding March.

So all in all we have gone down the traditional route.

My favourite hymn is Shine Jesus Shine, but I'm not sure if it's well known enough for a wedding, especially if some or maybe even most of the guests are not regular churchgoers. All Things Bright and Beautiful? Or is that a bit 'primary school assembly'?...

We sang Give me Oil in my Lamp at a recent wedding although I suspect this is a version of Joy in my heart? I'm not religious so not up on hyms.

I enjoy things we sang at school though because I feel I can join in. Otherwise I don't have a clue!
