Hymns!

lamby, 4 July, 2010 at 18:21 Posted on Planning 0 16

Ah, we have picked our hymns, am all happy! Have been mooching over different ones over the months, but not nailed anything down (story of my wedding life I'm now realising!) But today my hubby to be and me sat ourselves down in front of I tunes and youtube and had a good old listen! We have picked:

Morning has broken - at the start

Lord of the dance - at the end - when the deed has been done!

I'm sooo happy with them! And also relieved I can send off all our music choices (and big fat organ cheque) to the church, tick - finally! Nice and classic but loving the dance dance one, bit of a jolly that hopefully everyone will know and can have a happy sing (or mime) to!

What is everyone else having? I also really liked (if anyone is looking for ideas):

Colours of day, Follow me, One more step along the world I go, make me a channel of your peace, abide with me, all things bright and beautiful and bind us together and give me joy in my heart.

I was having lovely, childhood flashbacks of Primary School! ?

    We are having...

One more step along the world I go (My nans request - I used to sing in church and this was the processional hymn to lead all the singers into the church)

Shine Jesus shine - a song me and OH chose as we remembered it from school days

Amazing grace - OHs nan requested this one - not to my personal taste.

I love make me a channel of your piece and abide with me too! So many choices!

Not sure, we are really stuck on hymns!

We both like 'I Vow To Thee My Country' so definitely having that but not sure on the other one, we want something that people will know but not 'All Things Bright and Beautiful'. I also like 'Lord of all Hopefulness', Ooh decisions!

We're having a civil ceremony so not allowed any religious content. Instead we're having 'I'm a believer' & 'All you need is love'

    Your hymns sound lovely

We're having a civil ceremony so no hymms for us, I am a little jealous of you!

My mum and I were wondering if instead of a reading we could get everyone to sing a song, will have to talk to registrars I guess.

I thought it sounded fun too - but just am not sure if it is something that is done at Civil Ceremonies.

Also, I have yet to talk to H2B about it, just gossiping with my mum. All my aunties etc love a church wedding so maybe a song or 2 would make this civil ceremony a bit more traditional ?

    Gracious Spirit, Holy Ghost

    O Praise ye the Lord

O worship the King, all glorious above

All my hope on God is Founded

and during the register the choir will sing O Perfect Love and Love Divine all Loves excelling.

We are having Give me Joy in my Heart too - it's so upbeat and like you said, people will know it. We're also having Cwm Rhondda. We're having a verse in Welsh and a verse in English for both hymns, hopefully my side can keep the volume up during the Welsh bits!

    We're having:

Praise my soul the king of heaven

    Love divine all love excelling

    Cwm Rhonnda

    (no welsh for us tho!!)

I really like I vow to thee my country but me and my H2B are in the forces and it chokes me up too much to sing it!

As my H2B isn't a Christian I knew I wouldn't be having a church wedding & I said that the 1 thing I wouldn't give up was the singing which is why we're having a friend play the keyboard whilst we all sing 'I'm a believer' by the The Monkees & 'All you need is love' by the Beatles. Our registrar said it was fine. We've got nearly 100 guests at our civil ceremony so I hope that most of them will join in!!

I do love a good sing song. We're having the 2 songs alongside 2 readings!! Just plain greedy!!

well ours are completely different to yours! We are having

    1. In Christ Alone
    2. Here is Love
    3. I will trust in you alone

Smiley smile We picked them a wee while ago now and they have stuck! We had also been thinking of "Be thou my Vision" and "How Deep the Fathers Love"

I really like all your ideas!

My OH has agreed on a church wedding even though hes not religious it was the one thing I wasnt preparred to compromise on!

We have been to see the vicar and now we need to come to a decision on hymns, except he wont help me chose because hes not interested!

I really like make me a channel of your love, but is it classed as a hymn?

I also really like give me joy in my heart, its prefect for a wedding!

Any more suggestions would be fantastic, since im on my own on this one! Smiley laugh

    Me again!

Ive been researching the hymns and come across some copyright issues for hymns under a certain age.

Has anyone else come across this and had to pay to print the words in there order of service?

thank you for any help I dont want to sound silly asking the vicar about it!!!

Could your church provide hymn books for the hymns you want to sing? Your order of service could specify the title, number and page of the hymn.

It might be awkward if you didn't want to sing the whole thing though, but it might help with the copyright issue.
