Hymns - What are you having?

Hilarious, I have a list in front of me, youtube open and we are trying to decide too! Had a meeting with our vicar today in which we sang hymns to each other and couldn't decide on any!

We need four (!)

So far starting with: keep me travelling along with you

then: this is the day

then, who knows?! As the deer and Make me a channel of your peace are high contenders. I don't want anything too hymn-y!

I know the songs but I think that I might have the titles wrong for 2 of them! They are probably pretty common.

Lord of the dance (but Ive seen it called 'I danced on a Friday'?)

Sing Hosanna (or 'Give me joy in my heart'?)

The last 2 make me think of junior school assemblies so I fancied being taken back to my youth!

We had a marriage day at the church today.

We are thinking of "Give me joy in my heart" and "One more step along the word I go"

I also liked "Be still for the presence for the Presence of the Lord" and "Lord of the Dance"

I wanted One more step but OH wasnt so keen - Boooo! lol

We are having Lord of all Hopefulness and Love Divine (the more upbeat version)

Bind us together, One more step along the world I go and Amazing Grace

I've only just decided tho so it may change!

I'm having Amazing Grace, give me joy in my heart and Lord of the dance.

Im having a civil ceremony so no hymns but just thought id say that of all the weddings i've been too (loads!!) id have to say the "best sung" ones have been

one more step along the world i go (quite upbeat and great if you have kids at ceremony as they know it from school)

and

all things bright and beautiful (again cheery and well known)

I'm also having a civil ceremony, but i remember my cousins wedding a few years back and she also had "Give me joy in my heart" and "One more step along the word I go"

both of them were perfect for the occasion because it kept things light hearted and as they were school songs it meant you didnt get that singing in church thing where everyone always goes so high pitched.

Have to say that was one of the best ceremonies I have ever been to.

We had these, nice and upbeat. Vicar even commented on them being good choice, although I'm sure he says that to everyone!

If I was to have a third it would have been bind us together.

We are having 'Brother, Sister let me serve you', 'Thine be the Glory' and 'Ye who own the faith of Jesus'...

And a choir to help the non church goers pick the tunes up!

We're having for definate 'one more step along the world i go' as its my favorite!

probably 'give me joy in my heart' and 'lord of the dance' but im not set on them for definate. xx

Well i think that we are having something different to those mentioned. "In Christ Alone" is a favourite of both my OH and I, and we both like the new version of the 23rd Psalm. I also quite like "Be thou my vision", and "O Perfect Love". My friend had a lovely hymn at her wedding last year "Be our chief guest" and it is to the same tune as "Morning has broken".

There's a few alternatives...

theres always "Abide with me", "Fight the good Fight" and "O God our help in ages past"

A friend of a friend had 'Dear Lord and Father of Mankind forgive our foolish ways' at her second wedding... A bit close to the mark for me I think what with the next line being 'reclothe us in out rightful mind'...!

we're having the same. Purely because the more people that know them, the more likely they are to sing!

I know have the 'one more step' hymn in my head and if I hadn't just made 40 orders of service I would be having that one too!
