I can honestly see how the 'flu kills vulnerable people

RuthG, 16 December, 2008 at 13:15 Posted on Off Topic Posts 0 6

I woke up friday morning with a bit of a wheezy chest, went to work, took my temp, which was normal, and thought nothing of it. I then started to feel a bit achy, so I took co codamol, which was fine. At about 6 I took my temp again, it was 38.2, so I got sent home. I'm so glad they sent me home because by half 8 my temp was 39.3 and I had full on rigors and felt as if I was having an out of body experience. I got the ambulance transport service to take me to the walk in centre at 1 in the morning, who gave me an inhaler (thankfully!) and said it's viral. I'd been taking everything I could to help with the temp, but it didn't fall below 38.5 all weekend, regularly peaking at 39.3 and have regular episodes of vagueness and deleriousness.

Anyhoo, temp is now a bit closer to normal, just left with a nasty chest, but have lost half a stone, so I guess there's always a silver lining.

And is night nurse always so bizzare? I dreamt that nick from nick and anne diamond on itv breakfast tv fame, was constantly being shot in the head by zombies ?

It's horrible isn't it. I've had it for the best part of 2 weeks now and because I'm pregnant can't take anything stronger than paracetamol. I hope you feel better soon.

WSS, I can only take paracetamol and honey tea ? I'm feeling very sorry for myself, my temp has not gone below 39 in 2 days now and I've got to go out and get more tissues in a minute.

I recommend hot apple and blackcurrant squash for those of us who can't hit the strong stuff. I picked some up along with a bumper pack of tissues this morning.

It is horrible. You think you have had 'flu until you actually have proper 'flu. I had 'flu over christmas once with delirious dreams, the works. My parents had friends over for drinks on christmas eve and zombies were sucking out their emotions and brains, one by one.

I have a revolting cold at the moment, it's a bit fluey and grim but I'm functioning.

Hope you all get better soon.
