    Hi,

I totally understand how you're feeling, we got engaged on Christmas day and spent 8 months looking for our perfect venue - we began to think it didn't exist and then we found the venue we've now chosen (Eaves Hall in Clitheroe) had been sold and was being refurbished (we had discounted it earlier on in our engagement as it looked tired and a bit shabby). We went to look and immediately knew it was the place - the refurb was fantastic and just what we wanted. Don't put too much pressure on yourself, you & OH need to decide on what's important to you both in a venue and location - our criteria was we wanted to be 30 mins from home, with accommodation at or near the venue and preferably with exclusive use, luckily we have all of those things but it took a lot of traveling around Lancashire, Cheshire, the Lakes and Shropshire for 8 months to find that place! I did a pro's and cons list for each venue too and it sounds cheesy but once you know, you just know. Me and my OH hadn't even gotten out of the car yet to look and we gave each other this look that said "this is the place".

I went to visit Gorton Monastery with my sister and I agree about the location and car park - absolutely lovely building and if you feel it's not 100% what you want, discount it and move onto the next one. Have you looked at Saddleworth Hotel near Oldham? it looks lovely on the internet?

Sorry for the long post - if you want any info on other venues I've been to most in the North West! lol (I'd say I'm joking but sadly not!).

Do you have a list of things that you and H2B definitely want in a venue? x

    Hi,

not sure how far you'd be willing to travel, but we're getting married at The Ashes in Endon, Staffordshire. I've done a quick google maps search and it looks to be about a 45 min drive so might be a bit far.

However, they're capacity seems to fit with your numbers so it might be worth a look Smiley smile And also, it is a beautiful venue and they are very lovely, well organised people!

Mrs jonestobe I think I posted on one of your threads before. I am not sure.

Me and my OH want something that isn’t too far away, possible accommodation and something that just catches our eye. Postcode being OL9 so not too far from Oldham or Manchester. I firstly wanted it in Manchester city centre and now I have kind of gone off the idea as I think some people will not want to come into the city or may leave early for a night out!

I loved the Saddleworth hotel we are very close to booking this by my OH thinks something is missing, I have seen Great John Street and Mottram Hall. I didn’t warm to any of these venues so haven’t proceeded any further. Where have you looked hun?

I haven’t heard of your venue I will have a sneaky peak.

Creative Wedding Planner – I have been looking for a wedding planner in the north west to try help with my search but there aren’t many out there are they! this is how desperate I have become, I just think will I ever LOVE the venue

Shellsworth - I dont know how far guests think is ok?

Thanks ladies for taking the time to reply – I feel I have let off some steam now. xx

When I was looking someone recommended the White Hart Inn in Lydgate, I never went to see it but it might be worth a look, quite local to you:

    thewhitehart.co.uk

The Lowry Theatre is an unusual venue if you are looking for something ultra modern and there are lots of hotels very close by:

    www.thelowry.com

I know you said you were put off by Manchester centre but there is a wedding at the Midland Hotel on my photographers blog and it looks amazing.

Good luck with your search, I hope you find the perfect venue! x

    Hi bridetobe Smiley smile

I'm on my second reception venue and I think I'll be staying put at the risk of my OH strangling me to death!!

The only bit of advice I can really give is you aren't always going to get a venue 100% perfect. I love my venue and it's absolutely beautiful but it's a little further away than some people like, and there is another wedding reception on the same day as mine.

Try to look more at the positives than the negatives ( Unless they are REALLY big negatives)

Think of it this way, people are probably going to see more of the inside than the outside, so does the outside matter that much? ?

    xx

Sorry for the late reply hun.

    I've visited;

Rookery Hall & Spa (Nantwich, Cheshire)

    Peckforton Castle (Cheshire)

    Hoghton Tower (Near Chorley/Blackburn)

    Armathwaite Hall (Lakes)

    Combermere Abbey (Cheshire/Shropshire border)

    Mitton Hall (Clitheroe)

    Stanley House Hotel (Mellor, Lancashire)

    Nunsmere Hall Hotel (Cheshire)

    Gorton Monastery as you've mentioned.

Finally Eaves Hall in Clitheroe which we've booked.

I know most of those places will be too far for you, however some have hotels so not so bad if there's accommodation for yourself and guests. If you need any info on any of them then let me know x

You're welcome, happy to help ? I know how stressful it is venue hunting, you can put so much unnecessary pressure on yourself to find "the place" and sometimes it just falls into place.

We picked it because we originally loved Mitton Hall and would have booked there but all Saturdays for next year are booked already and then we found out that the same company who own Mitton Hall had bought Eaves Hall in May and we thought if they refurbish it anywhere near as nice as Mitton it will be gorgeous and we went and they've done an amazing job in just 5 months - it's amazing what new carpets, wallpaper and curtains does to a place. The current website is the old owner's site, it's much nicer than the website shows - I said to our wedding coordinator "you need a new website and you'll be fully booked" as that's what most people see before they decide to look around somewhere.

We also wanted to ideally get married in Lancashire as we live there and it's special to us and I also wanted somewhere that was close to home so I could get ready at home in the morning and be only half an hour away, we also ideally wanted a country house hotel and have it exclusively. I can't describe it, once you know you know. It has everything and more we could have hoped for in a venue and it makes parting with the best part of £13k on a venue much easier! That's one thing I would say, it is so much money you're spending, if you don't have that "got to have it, got to book it so no-one else nabs that date" feeling then keep looking, you will find the place.

Our guests are travelling from all over the place - Bristol, Birmingham, London, Derbyshire, Lancaster, Chesire, Scotland and one of my best friends from Paris is flying over (they are spread out everywhere!) that is why one of our criteria was a hotel reception so that guests could stay over and have breakfast with us the next day so they could make a weekend of it as I thought that for everyone traveling so far it's nice to extend the day into having breakfast together. However that being said guests will sort out their own hotel wherever you book - if they love you and want to be there if you tell them where it is most guests will sort their own travel and accommodation out.

Hope that helps - you will find the place even though it doesn't feel like that right now x

Lovely idea though of having it lancashine ect. I live in Oldham so not too far from a lot of the venues you said - around 25-30 miles.

Are yu having a church wedding hun? thats why I think will people travel? will they mind? as I am having a church wedding near me and then ont receptin although I will be paying fr their travel so nt much on the money/driving side ?

I just hope I stumble upon it - I do love the saddleworth hotel just from the outside it isnt so grand! but inside is lovely take a peek xx

The pics of the inside are lovely, you're right about the outside - I hadn't seen those before, however if you love it you'll be spending most of the time inside anyway and are there any gardens for outside photos? I've done a quick search and can't really find anywhere in the Oldham area, it's similar to the problem we had being in Chorley, there's nowhere near us really so we ended up searching further afield.

We're having a church wedding in Waddington which is a 3 minute drive to the reception venue so people will probably drive to the church then onto the venue and leave cars there as most will be staying overnight at the hotel or staying in Waddington. Where's your church? I would probably say you don't want much more than a 30 minute trip from church to venue. Is your heart set on that particular church? as some (not all) churches are open to people from outside the parish marrying in their church although you will probably need to attend for once a month for 6 months before and be there for the reading of the banns (this is what we're doing at the Waddington church as we're not from the same parish). If you have your heart set on a particular church then you can start there and work up to 30 mins out from there (unless your guests are willing to travel further, ask around).

Can't wait to hear from you when you've found the place, keep me posted and I'll let you know if I think of anywhere.

    Hannah x
